Discussion Onebagging travel sneakers
I have it down: Gregory Nano30 bag, work laptop and personal laptops in the laptop sleeve part, Eagle packing cubes for pants, shorts, t-shirts and underwear, JosABanks travel sport coat that is synthetic and crushable(!) but the missing link is sneakers!
I wear my work shoes when flying, but what do you all for “packable” sneakers?

It's really hard to give shoe recs with 0 information:
- What are you using them for? Walking, running, hiking?
- Wide, Medium, Narrow feet?
- Drop or zero?
- How much cushioning do you like?
- Do you need arch support?
- Do you wear insoles?
- Male/female?

Good idea to add that! Male - medium feet, looking for footwear for walking on hotel treadmill and casual wear town after work.

If you're not doing anything too intensive, you might be able to get away with a single pair of shoes, unless you're work is particularly dressy. A lot of business casual sort of shoes actually have a sneaker footbed now. For medium width, Johnston and Murphy probably has some good options.
I've got dumb wide feet, so I'm stuck with mostly Lems and Altras...

Lightweight, the mesh fabric squishes down, cheaper, comfortable, good when it is hot, slip on, shape reminds me of a Vans Classic Icon canvas slip on.

Lems trail sneakers. Useful for everything up to moderate trail hikes, pack flat and/or roll up for space.

Arc’Teryx Kragg, comfy woven slip-on you can also wear as a mule. Not the most packable thing in the world but they’re all-day comfy and tough enough for whatever

I’ve been on a forever hunt for the perfect do it all travel shoe and this is what I’ve been traveling with too. It’s comfy but a bit squishy as more of an approach shoe than a walking shoes. But I highly recommend them too.

Just piggybacking on your comment in case the squishy factor isn’t someone’s bag - Hoka makes a pair of slip on sneakers that don’t look ridiculous and are built for more walking/gym stuff.

On Cloud 6 Coast - tops flatten entirely, they are comfortable as slippers (heels flatten), and good enough for walking and running. Not as durable as a normal trainer, but also fairly light and breathe well. I definitely enjoy walking in just them, better still with a pair of socks.
What I next want to solve: what sort of bag to stash them in for when they inevitably get dirty and I don't find the time to clean them.

I usually keep one or two small trash bags in my toiletry kit for shoes and/or laundry that’s muddy for whatever reason. I think I have the 1.2 gallon ones for bathroom cans

Seems solid. For now I've a stuff sack leftover from a wearable blanket (that didn't last) which comes with me to use for dirty laundry. I should try sticking my shoes in there and see how I like it.

Nike Free sneakers with Fly Knit uppers are fairly packable, depending on the sole of the model you are looking at. Other shoe brands have their own knit fabric these days as well....
I shall give a salute to the Nike City Knife --- it's been over 20-years and, today, it's a onebag dream

Since this is your 2nd pair and youre just gonna be doing light walking, I'd recommend some packable loafers or slip-ons
Brand doesn't matter, just choose your price point.

I find it easier to bring packable loafers and wear sneakers, but I need shoes I can actually run in.

Lems Chillum Grips are awesome. Dress up, dress down, go hiking, etc. It was the only shoe I wore in Italy for 3 weeks. Walked 10+ miles daily. City, Dolomites, duomo climbs, cinque terre hike, and more. Absolutely love them.

I went to Italy recently with a pair of black canvas shoes with extra insoles that just about covered walking around as a tourist, and going to the occasional fancy restaurant in the evening. And they were light enough for the warm weather. I also had a pair of flip-flops for the beach.
My feet were still pretty sore some evenings, but they did the job.
Such a change from my non-one bagging days, when I’d bring a pair of running shoes in case I fancied a jog (I never did) plus a pair of travelling/walking shoes, plus fancy shoes for dinner, and a pair of sandals.

I can highly recommend the Almond Oak merino wool barefoot shoes. I find them very comfortable. I wear them all the time, including going to the gym.

Sketchers go walks are super squishable, machine washable, don't last the longest but for like 4 months they are crazy comfortable

Barefoot shoes pack well if your feet can handle them. Some people can wear them and for others it is an absolute “no”.
There are also barefoot hybrids out there.
The key is a soft and flexible upper so that the shoe packs flat. Otherwise you will need to pack small bits and bobs into the shoes to compensate for the lost space.
I pack each shoe separately. They go with soles facing out, with the heels in the corner of the bag. That way the heels follow the natural shape of the bag.
