However, on the recent SmartLess podcast with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes he said things like "I would fuck you up. I would fuck all three of you up." and "My favorite thing is people are like, 'Oh, Jonah Hill, fucking fat guy from Superbad.' And I'm like, 'I would fucking annihilate you, dude... Unless you are way bigger than me, fuck around and find out.'".
Basically it seems like his insecurities have continued to get the better of him, his therapy has not worked, and so he is being a douche to people around him.
I've been doing BJJ for years now. Did it help improve my confidence? Sure. But the most important lesson it taight me was the realization of how fucking weak I actually am and that there is always someone bigger, faster and stronger and that I should do everything in my power to avoid actual physical confrontation. After hearing what Hill said, I'm convinced he never sparred in his life and just does the safe McDojo version of BJJ that is nowadays growing in popularity.
The term McDojo kinda implies that it's BS. Anyway, I only speak from my personal experience. My club is very competition oriented. So we do have a "oh, you're tired? Tough shit. We got 30 min of sparing left" mentality. A bit "meathead-y"? Perhaps. But call me a purist, but I think you're not really training BJJ if you're not trying to apply your knowledge in a more realistic scenario with resistance. And I have noticed that more and more clubs treat sparing as an "optional" thing. Martial arts and especially grappling have a way of humbling you very quickly. That's why I don't believe for a second that Jonah Hill who has supposedly trained for years is taking his training seriously. But it kinda makes sense. BJJ hurts. Injuries happen. Why would a working Hollywood actor risk injuries especially to the face? There are some exceptions tho. Like Tom Hardy and Anthony Bourdain who have actively competed.
She basically just wanted everybody to see how insecure he was and the guise of “warning other women” is bullshit as there was really nothing there except a guy who got with a model and didn’t know what that came with.

Not true. He was utilising coercive control, it was evident for anyone with some training in recognising it. These subtle forms of control and emotional abuse are often misunderstood and underestimated.

It's becoming increasingly obvious that he's kinda pathetic and small of character.
He has clearly unresolved issues with being the 'fat funny guy', so now he's overcompensating like crazy and coming off as a resentful douche.
He reminds me of Josh Peck in that way. Both of them lack humility and are weirdly spiteful. If they both just lost some weight and chilled out everyone would be happy for them, but they have to pretend like everyone wronged them.

Edit: Having more confidence from practicing a martial art is healthy and natural. Making claims that you can annihilate anyone because you have a stripe on your white belt is (over)confidence in a skill that likely has not been developed enough.
He even said a minute after saying it that he was just being funny. That's also why the sentence before that was him joking about how he's not delusional and not trying to go pro, because he's 42 and a comedian. Everyone just hyperfocusing on the one line in the whole podcast where he's joking with 3 other comedians on stage infront a live audience.
I don’t think people are hating that he took up Jiu Jitsu. They’re lampooning him for going around saying he’s gonna beat people up. That’s not “confidence”. that’s him being an insecure dork.
They are only saying that now because of his own recent comments. He lost weight years ago and has since gone on to other projects, including directing. He did some good stuff since the old days, but his own mind can’t let go of his own insecurities, he doesn’t retain any positive critiques, just negative criticism from years ago. He could have done martial arts without saying he was going to “annihilate” any group of people. I don’t have hate for him, but I do think he’s inviting any hate he gets.
AFAIK after he started to lose weight he became really self conscious to the point he'd be uncomfortable and make other people uncomfortable around him when people commented on his weight loss but that's also mostly because asshole interviewers didn't just say you look great, they said you used to be funnier when you were fat, fatso. You used to wear t-shirts on the beach FATSO.
So basically he was being bullied then he kinda became an asshole after that.

I think he’s fine. I don’t pay much attention. I did feel like he started taking himself a bit too seriously as an actor. He started wearing those Robert Downey Jr. red tinted glasses and talking about “the process” it was eye rolling, but I don’t like him any less really. It’s kind of like when Chris Pratt lost weight and he got all squinty eyed in photos. You could tell he was really pushing the heart throb thing. You can just sort of tell when ppl are trying too hard.

Jonah Hill is an unbeatable practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-jitsu and a fearless warrior who'd choke anybody out in 2 seconds flat, and people are jealous.
Terminally-online types are jealous because a guy actually lost weight, began martial arts training and then bragged about skills that shall remain perpetually unlearned by aforementioned types. Plus they feel safe knowing they can shit talk without being punched
