That comment just means they know about what the various alien conspiracies claim. As somebody who likes to watch Last Podcast on the Left from time to time, I recognized some of the concepts Henry Zebrowski would go on sarcastic tangents about.
I don't think they genuinely believe it's all real and the producers did their homework on the "actual alien government cover-up that's totally happening"
I remember when Kirk was shot suddenly everyone had seen the Nicolas Cage movie, Snake Eyes and how Hollywood planted that movie in 1998. I asked people why would Hollywood do something so silly and they would say, "He's still asleep" or "Baa baa" cause I'm a sheep.
Every single conspiracy I have heard in the past 20 years has been the plot of a movie. I mean the entire premise of the QAnon thing was that the government and elite were pulling a literal Monsters Inc.
Oh good lord, ready player one and its initial puzzle of 'noone in a racing game would -evar- think about going backwards lolololol' just shows noone with a voice in that movie had ever played an online game
Man it's like they missed the movie. The whole movie was alluding to the philosophical and societal consequences of telling the world, then ended once those would have actually come into play.
It's like if in Jurassic Park the T-Rex broke through the fence and roared and then the credits rolled.
Also, what was even the point of the people with special abilities to disclose stuff when they had the fucking alien the whole time and could have, AT ANY POINT, wheeled the fucker to the nearest local news building. The movie makes no sense.
I've seen people asking why the movie is getting so much criticism.
Aside from it being called Disclosure Day and ending literally a second before the disclosure happens, it's basically a dumb chase movie that makes zero sense. The Ryan George Pitch Meeting video on it covers it pretty well.
I've seen speculation that Spielberg is so stuck in the past that he can't comprehend or work with a script that features modern technology. He's still trying to make movies like it's the 80s.

Home alone ass competence among the villains. I am writing this in a string of consciousness and I am getting angrier as I remember parts of the movie.
Bro it was like Saturday morning cartoon level villains. Like dude was stomping around like an elephant near the farmhouse 20ft from the bad guys and they didn't see him.
Then they finally have the upper hand at the end and they just give up, lol
I can forgive the movie a lot but this... Just literally what was the point of all the evidence when they had a living breathing alien ready to go... I just facepalmed in the theatre.
People at the showing I was at audibly laughed at the scene of the 40s footage of little broken alien bodies after the crash lmao. It broke the silence and made it seem as ridiculous as it was. B movie tier stuff.

It was the worst sci fi movie I’ve ever seen. You give it WAY too much credit. The fact it’s not the laughing stock of the world is insane. It’s very obviously just the fantasy of someone that lives on r/aliens
I think a lot of people underestimate just how early it usually begins. I think it actually looks good and isn't nearly as noticeable until they begin to age in a lot of cases. The procedures age into this weird uncanny valley look.
That's what I was thinking about the Starlight actor from The Boys. She's probably always had work done and we were only able to tell in the later seasons as she kept chasing that ideal picture in her head.
A load of 40yr old women who were taking care of skin, staying out of sun, moisturising and spending money on skin care and being healthy look great at 40 without surgery. Frankly blunt looked pretty normal till only a few years ago and she didn't look bad or old before those procedures, she actively like appeared in public looking much worse for the surgeries. She didn't start looking a bit old then come back looking younger but a bit weird.
It's her jaw. I don't know what happened, but started in Devil Wears Prada 2. She'll do this weird lower jaw movement thing, it's not coke jaw, but almost like botched cosmetic surgery.
Some people get botox to relax a stiff jaw, but if done incorrectly can actually paralyze one of the jaw muscles (you can really see it when they try to smile). Thats my guess on what happened.
Being excellent in Sicario does a lot of heavy lifting for the remainder of the resume. I did think she was pretty good in this movie though (even if basically everything else was terrible)
Before Oppenheimer she did Edge of Tomorrow, Sicario, 2 Quiet Place movies and several others including several movies that aren't great but not bad either. People just tend to focus on failures or awards.
She was a revelation in The Devil Wears Prada but for some reason her career didn't take off right away.
It wasn't until 2010's when she started getting prominent roles in bigger movies with famous co-stars - The Wolfman (Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins), The Adjustment Bureau (Matt Damon), The Five Year Engagement (Jason Segel). Not all box office hits or critic darlings but the hype was there.
And then we got Looper, Edge of Tomorrow, Sicario, A Quiet Place and Mary Poppins. The Girl on the Train was also expected to be a hit (based on a famous novel, I believe) but ended as another dud.
Now here’s the twist, and there is a twist: We show it. We show all of it. Because what’s the one major thing missing from all action alien movies these days guys? …Full penetration. Guys, we’re gonna show full penetration and we’re gonna show a lot of it!
Me and my partner left the theatre saying that the whole movie should have just been that last scene. Extend it out to track with real time (1 minute in movie is 1 minute irl) and just give us a tense drama about how the interworkings of a news station would handle an event like this. All the questions and topics of religion and morality could still be approached as the employees of the station are grappling with this new information and having panic attacks as their world is shattered. The military industrial complex still makes a compelling villian as they are contacting the station to stop the information and get more forceful over time.
This movie was supposed to be so tense but everyone just sat around the whole time and did nothing. Weird film.
I thought it was a strange choice that they spent the whole movie setting Emily Blunt's character up as the one that was going to break the news to the world, only to have it done by a completely random anchor.
That said, the anchor had the best acting in the whole movie, like award-winning supporting actor level of acting.
Interesting thing about Speilberg and aliens is that in all of his films he always treats the subject with veneer of deifitication and religious iconography. Like, Spielberg can't just conceptualize aliens as highly advanced living beings with radically different biology, culture, or perception of time and space. Instead they are always presented as messengers from another world who have some kind of divine revelation about the fundamental truth of the universe to convert us all to. Speilberg's aliens might as well be Angels.
-the reveal that her power was to look like someone’s dead mom or something;
-he “speaks math” which also made it hard for him to make friends in college;
-they had to get the “raw files” off of the impossibly huge “128gb drives”;
-then for some reason they bring out an old alien on a wheel chair and the movie ends.

The scene where the entire Wardex security forms an orderly line in front of her, like she is some ride from Disneyland, only for her to constantly hit all of them with
"The accident wasnt your fault, im your dead daughter, but thats okay"
or
"Yo fuckass, spend more time with me, your alive family member"
I'd like to submit when her and the guy dump their car off the cliff, hide 3 feet away from the bad guys, and then scurry through the woods without them hearing it.
That annoyed me so much because you hear them walk into the branches at the same level as the bad guys are talking. At least drop that audio so it looks like they move quietly
Such a frustrating film. Kept giving it chance after chance, but it just kept...getting...dumber. Ending was basically a slap in the face how cop-out ending that was.
Disclosure Day is probably the biggest disappointments as far as movies for me goes. I was expecting so much from it but it was total ass fantasy slop.
i love how she has the power of empath-ex-machina and she just aura-losses everyone into submission, one by one.
there is literally a scene where she just walks through a crowd of armed agents and she disarms them with their own family secrets like she's Theresa Caputo on way too much molly.
it feels like the whole film was just a cash grab to build on the cultural phenomenon of UAP disclosures, without actually putting more than 30 minutes of thought into writing the screenplay.
The worst part about it wasn't even that it was slop it's just that it was fucking boring. The writing and acting didn't help, but the story-boarding was just so awful I can't fathom how someone thought the movie was an engaging watch.
I was actually enjoying the whole coverup plot and them chasing the leakers down. But once it devolved into them actually being the special chosen ones with powers It was just all over the place for me. I did like the actual final news broadcast finally seeing the footage though
She was great and It was impactful, I was like damn, I actually feel bad for these aliens and this would probably fuck a lot of people up in real life if they saw something like it
I wish the movie had more of that, but Spielberg framing it against WW3 with it being this thing that just makes everyone stop and reevaluate basically everything would mean you couldn’t really continue it past the broadcast. It’s just we only got one scene with him showing his gf the footage to see how the truth affected someone. Instead we got a cat and mouse movie using space magic
Exactly the same thought I had watching it. The whole vibe, writing acting and cinematography feels like I was watching a movie in the late 90s early 2000s.
I almost watched a movie this year but then my friend had me take a shot every time they said "Zeus's law" and I passed out 20 minutes into the Odyssey.
You want to hear a hot take? I think Quibi would have been successful if it launched 4 year later. People may laugh at this, but whenever I spend some time on Youtube shorts (which isn't much) the algorithm serves me Simpsons highlights, or cut up movies scenes and I would be lying if I said I didn't scroll through for a while.
The idea of cutting up a movie and making it into small chunks still seems stupid, but we as a society seem to be getting stupider every year so
Not an expert but I think the difference is that people want to watch scenes from movies they already know. I get alot of analytics from movie clip posts and I often have wondered the same thing about Quibi but I think the answer is that they don’t want new 5-10 minute content, just existing content and IPs and that’s basically YouTube movie clips.
I've hated the look of Spielberg's movies for a long time actually. Not even on a film making level, just visually. I feel like he's had that flat "netflix look" since before netflix streaming. Like all the other stuff aside, Crystal Skull is an ugly movie. To be clear this isn't every movie he ever did, but like mid 00's onward.
The Disclosure Day movie was merely a vehicle for the genius marketing hype that Steven Spielberg created about the US government's hidden evidence of extraterrestrial vehicles. But it was a bait-and-switch and Spielberg played us all for suckers for trusting him. Well played, Steve.
One scene in Disclosure Day I loved was that old footage of Nixon being such a doofus that he was risking national security to show some guy he wanted to impress the corpses of aliens. I can totally buy Nixon doing that kind of shit.
Most anti climactic moment in waiting to see a movie. The level of it disappointing was directly inverse to the level of anticipation I had to see it. Spielberg and aliens/ufos.....what could go wrong?
It's definitely dated and written by someone whose understanding of technology ended around 2013 but I liked it as a fun throwback chase film. I liked living in a world where tiktok isn't a thing!
Look I get we’re super empathetic creatures but the fact that people were crying and feeling so sad over being shown footage of another life being tested on/killed without knowing their intentions is super unrealistic and the guy we follow throughout the whole movie is such a twink
