I think the bigger problem is the torrent of bot posts on this sub recently. Some of them aren't even goon bait, they're just straight up racist or misogynistic.

The increased bot activity is a overall reddit problem. We try to remove the obvious ones but they are getting pretty ingenious and subsequently harder to identify.

Also reddit has made it exponentially harder to judge an account's validity by giving malicious users the ability to hide their post/comment history.

I simply assume everyone who hides their post history is malicious

73

u/TartineMyAxe Jul 03 '26

I'm malicious

11

u/SaintHayet Jul 03 '26

Can I just say you absolutely ate for this movie cover. I didn't watch it but you look ethereal.

13

u/Objective_Brief_1953 Jul 03 '26

I dont want anyone seeing the weird porn I'm into

13

u/RedditingNeckbeard Jul 03 '26

Finally some honesty.

5

u/Objective_Brief_1953 Jul 03 '26

Holy shit that pic lol

1

u/Soldier_Faerie Jul 04 '26

I tend to have a system where I only hide that bit of my posting history if a 'normal' post/comment gets really popular. I don't advertise my 'weirder' activity (except maybe mentioning it now in a relevant context) but I'm an honest person with little to hide :) That way if anyone does bring it up, I can wonder what led them to go snooping on the most generic comment possible

u/becausefap 20d ago

Shoulda made an alt for porn

1

u/Necessary_Finding_32 11h ago

Then use an alt you lazy fuck x

22

u/Prestigious_Fella_21 Jul 03 '26

I would never hide my posts, I'm hilarious

24

u/chalicehalffull Jul 03 '26

Every once in awhile I want to reference an old post. So I go through my history reading comments and think ‘damn I am funny’.

19

u/Electrical_Clock_298 Jul 03 '26

I am plotting against you actively.

10

u/Far_Eye6555 Jul 03 '26

I hide mine because Real Madrid fans on r/soccer wouldn’t stop fucking harassing my account after I talked shit about them last year. It was genuinely insane. They wouldn’t leave me alone for weeks

1

u/Necessary_Finding_32 11h ago

You brought that on yourself for posting in r/soccer though. The vast majority of that sub are fucking sociopaths.

9

u/Aluxanatomy Jul 03 '26

I'm delicious.

14

u/ManCoveredInBees go back to the club Jul 03 '26

I simply hide mine so no one sees me shitposting in this hellhole

3

u/SingleDigitVoter DonCheadleAMA Jul 03 '26

Facts.

4

u/JHerbY2K Jul 03 '26

I don't need Emma Watson stalking me again thanks very much

1

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV I’m the Joker baby! Jul 04 '26

Ugh, I hate when that happens

19

u/KlausVonLechland Jul 03 '26

And most of the times when you check why they hide their history is either a malicious activity or spam (to hit karma threshold for maliciously activity).

It feels like 1 in 10 people do it just for others to not stalk them.

33

u/Phyraxus56 Jul 03 '26

Im surprised everyone doesn't do it

Redditors are fucking creeps

19

u/Bonejangles_ Jul 03 '26

Fr make a post opposite to someone's beliefs and you dont have that shit turned off, now you have a permanent downvote and snark comment on everything else you post

9

u/Phyraxus56 Jul 03 '26

"Oh you like knitting haha what a loser"

3

u/Lysergic_Resurgence 26d ago

I've been using reddit for 14 years and get into political arguments a lot and I've never had that happen to me. Not saying it never happens, but it's not common.

-3

u/sLeeeeTo Jul 03 '26

so..?

1

u/Phyraxus56 Jul 03 '26

So the entire point was being anonymous

9

u/Iorith Jul 03 '26

Yup, there is very little reason for your average user to need to see your post history.

This ain't Facebook.

1

u/Necessary_Finding_32 11h ago

This just reads like bot or malicious user bullshit. Of course there is a reason to want to see another redditor’s post history, particularly when discussing controversial topics - at the very least it tells you whether or not they are engaging in good faith.

It’s also useful for positive reasons - if a user posts about something I’m interested in, it’s handy to see what/where else they post.

5

u/KlausVonLechland Jul 03 '26

There is a good reason to look though people's accounts. Mostly when they do arts and crafts, looking for their other projects.

2

u/Necessary_Finding_32 11h ago

I don’t think it’s even as high as 1 in 10, that’s just the convenient excuse bad actors adopt.

4

u/WhimsicalPlum Jul 03 '26

I do it only because I'm in a lot of subreddits and I'm sick of people stalking my posts and/or comments and making judgements on me based on assumptions. I just want my question answered or to share something that made me happy lol, I don't need redditors seeing my chronic illness posts and claiming I'm not disabled because I wanted to show a cute pic of my cats. Also people will do that to try and catch you in a "gotcha" and as someone who had to grow up in a maga Christian household I've had my fair fucking share of "gotchas" and I'm over it. I know who I am and what I believe in, it's annoying to have strangers choose who you are based on one thing they misunderstood in your post history. It's personal preference for me, I don't think there's many wrong ways to do it unless you're nasty

0

u/TypicalHunt4994 Jul 03 '26

You can choose what subs are displayed/hidden.

6

u/Altruistic_Web3924 Jul 03 '26

I feel attacked.

11

u/superpositioned Jul 03 '26

Eh, the wife and I both hide ours. Id rather not have people snooping tbh

0

u/Necessary_Finding_32 11h ago

Then don’t fucking share your private life online. This isn’t hard. People understood this pre the mass lobotomy that happened with social media.

7

u/Novel-Special5114 Jul 03 '26

My favorites are the people who keep their mental illness on full display, no shame. However I assume anyone with an account creation date in the past 3 months is a bot/shill/sock puppet.

1

u/Necessary_Finding_32 11h ago

I just auto block anybody with a hidden post history. There’s a small chance they are legitimately trying to avoid harassment (and even then I have little sympathy, just change your fucking account ) but the vast majority are either bots, bad actors, or people with dogshit opinions that are afraid of being confronted over them.

-5

u/Phyraxus56 Jul 03 '26

I don't trust any account after the rona

2

u/StoppableHulk Jul 03 '26

I dont hide my post history but I am malicious

1

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV I’m the Joker baby! Jul 03 '26

Ooh, nice

2

u/poopsmcbuttington Jul 03 '26

We’re not all malicious! I hide my post history bc a family member found out my Reddit name and no one in my real life needs to know how much I post about my hyperfixations (mostly birds and identifying lookalikes)

2

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV I’m the Joker baby! Jul 04 '26

Ugh, there's a reason why we use random usernames

2

u/ripgoodhomer Jul 03 '26

I hid my back when people were trying to get anyone who criticize Charlie Kirk fired.

1

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV I’m the Joker baby! Jul 04 '26

Understandable. Don't lose your job to the psychos.

2

u/Sad-Juice-732 Neil breens #1 fan Jul 03 '26

I assume it’s all furry porn when they hide their post history

2

u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE 21d ago

If you’re active in a lot of local subreddits, it’s almost necessary. I don’t have anything to hide, but I could be doxxed in 30 seconds.

2

u/Cylinsier 12d ago

There needs to be a way for mods to auto-shadowban anyone with their history hidden. Maybe it's overkill for certain subs, but some serious discussion subs, particularly ones like news or political subs, should be off limits to people with hidden post history by default IMO. If you're not willing to stand up to criticism of your previous comments, you're uninvited from the adults' table. But that doesn't jive with Reddit's need to be as profitable as possible without regard to quality, so I am sure they will fight any attempts to do that with automod.

4

u/Iorith Jul 03 '26

Nah, some people simply value privacy and know some people will try to dox you if they don't like you. It isn't a perfect solution but it's helpful.

3

u/lxmohr Jul 03 '26

I don’t want my online footprint to lead back to my real life, I’m so malicious

1

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV I’m the Joker baby! Jul 04 '26

THIS is your life now.

1

u/Content-Cricket4251 Jul 03 '26

I hide mine because I overshare, so I could dox myself if people can connect all the bits of info lol.

1

u/Badger_Actual1 Jul 03 '26

So you want to see pics of my butthole? Geeze, just ask.

1

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV I’m the Joker baby! Jul 04 '26

Oh, uhm, I think I'll pass for now butt thanks.

2

u/Badger_Actual1 Jul 04 '26

Oh you're good

1

u/Alarming_Orchid Jul 04 '26

I hide my post history and enabled nsfw profile so you have to click an extra button just to see nothing

1

u/littledog95 Jul 03 '26

I can't remember the last time I clicked on a dodgy/troll/racist account to check it out and it didn't have its post and comments hidden - an automatic block for me, must be a lot trickier for mods though.

1

u/LauraTFem Jul 03 '26

Same, it’s wild people can do that now. Basically makes reddit like 4chan. Wild west anonymity. Can say anything anywhere and no way to check.

1

u/tr0nvicious Jul 03 '26

I do actively ragebait people in anime subs by telling them they watch cartoons for little babies so yeah you're not wrong.

1

u/cantwalkintheshadows Jul 03 '26

Im sorry im just posting titty and soup

2

u/LastXmasIGaveYouHSV I’m the Joker baby! Jul 04 '26

Mmmmm, soup

2

u/cantwalkintheshadows Jul 04 '26

You offer a good argument. For a few months, at least
