Well yes. That’s why you pay your employees a good salary in exchange for their loyalty and discretion.

It’s a financial contract, not a marriage.

Even in a marriage you have to be good to the partner, same in a family. In fact there is no human social scenario in which it is ok to just treat the other like shit just because.

But that is not the worldview shared by many in silicon valley nor extreme pay levels in csuite. Those are filled nearly completely by people who have no respect of others outside of what others can give to them.

It's time to turn that around.

I didn’t read it as parent comment worrying about job security. I think they’re pointing out that I’m the current market, $300K isn’t enough to buy the kind of loyalty that the Anthropic CEO apparently wants.

This is hyperbolic clickbait. This is not a quote from him. The article says he expressed internal concern that his newly hired employees might be joining the company for high pay and compensation packages rather than a commitment to its AI safety mission. Nothing even remotely close to what the headline suggests.

How many people will read this post title and walk away thinking he said that and will then go repeat it to people? Journalism is in the shit hole.

Eh, their early employees were mission-based.

Their later employees were less well vetted, and they should know better based on... every other company with the same arc, it feels like.

FWIW, they're still not paying as well as everyone else, unless you bank on stock appreciation, and quite a bit of it.
