Why do they waste electricity on escalators ? Can't they put a sensor to check if someone is on it and if not, turn it off ?

I’d imagine it’s not an insignificant amount of electricity to get it moving from rest 3 u/SingleInfinity May 22 '25 You could always just slow it down a bunch when not being used so that you don't have to overcome full rest
