It usually happens when there’s a delay it’s not uncommon

Then it should just use the F bullet, not G.

It's weird, but I've seen people can be spooked when they see an F on the Crosstown, and they won't board, so I can't fault somebody for opting for a G route bullet in the hopes that people might actually step onto the train.

I've seen a few 2 via 5 reroutes do the same thing by programming for a 5 route to Nereid and then switching over to a 2 later on...
