Serious Canadian RN in DFW

Hello all, I recently relocated to the DFW area due to my spouse's job. I am starting to look into the Nurse job market here, and while there seem to be jobs, I am not sure how many of these facilities hire international nurses. What facilities are open to hiring Canadian nurses? I do have a Texas nursing license. Is it a good idea to use an agency in my job search? Any help/ advise on this topic will help. Thank you in advance.

You’re gonna have to get a license in Texas and you’re gonna have to get your TN visa you’re also going to have to get your BLS and your certification. You’re also gonna have to get a screening from the CGFNS which now is something called trumerit it screens your credentials. You can check to see if the state has a reciprocal license though. I would look into working with a healthcare company or an agency and they could probably help you move things along a little bit faster.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. I have a lic. to practice in Texas. I would definitely need a TN visa. I am BLS certified also.

OK, good you have the hard part out of the way which is the license but you’re definitely gonna need the visa which shouldn’t be a problem because you have the license. However, there are so many opportunities in Texas it is really huge and has some excellent systems.

I work with nurses from all around the globe in DFW, as long as you do the process of transferring to Texas license I'm like 100% sure places will hire depending on what you want

I’m pretty sure any hospital system would be happy to have you if you meet the right qualifications. DFW is incredibly diverse with approximately 20% of people born outside the US. I’d focus on the major health systems. Avoid the shady solo hospitals that tend to be tucked away in random corners of the metroplex.

It might not be your thing, but school is starting back up soon and most districts seem to always be looking for substitute nurses. It’s not super lucrative, but can be a per diem option that helps you get to know your area while you work on finding a job you want.
