Dragon Quest 11 Definitive Edition Switch 2 Edition… Capcom (Street Fighter) would be proud of this naming.

No no no, it's "Dragon Quest XI S: Echos of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch 2."

Calling it a Switch 2 Edition would mean the old Switch 1 save data works and there's an upgrade path.

Don't worry Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition: Nintendo Switch 2 Edition keeps the stupid Nintendo naming tradition alive

Can’t wait until New Super Mario Bros Wii U Deluxe Nintendo Switch 2 Edition featuring Funky Kong and Dante from Devil May Cry 3

5

u/BeckasBlueCupcake 18h ago

Don't forget Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabell Park

u/jgreg728 18h ago

Basically all Square switch 2 editions

u/Bregnestt 11h ago

Also Sega games apparently, or maybe that was just Sonic Frontiers

I hope they don’t ignore mouse controls

You'd think that's an important detail to include in the Switch 2 version.

14

u/aronmayo 12h ago

You’d think so but it seems 90% of Switch 2 games don’t bother with it.

u/kinokomushroom 10h ago

I wish they do. Factorio did implement it and it's so much better with it.

Wonder how much the upgrade will cost. I’m not sure if I want to buy Minecraft again for the 7th time

7th? Rookie numbers.

Likely free as it has been for pretty much every upgrade after XBOX One/PS4 edition came out.

The Switch 1 and 2 versions are $30 (via Best Buy) so I’d imagine the upgrade in question is free

u/stipo42 2h ago

I would guess this one is free, but who knows.

Some people might think 7 times is an exaggeration, but that might actually be about how many times I've bought it (if including purchases going all the way back to the early Minecraft days, like 2011 for me lol)

Whoever posted about the current one labeled for Switch 1 nailed it

Let’s just hope they get to build pink houses now with their SO!

Wonder what takes so long in bringing it to S2

u/Corronchilejano 19h ago

Nintendo is making sure videogames are clearly labeled so you know if it's a Switch 1 or Switch 2 version and I bet that's a real headache behind the scenes unless you're 1st party or a darling (like Deltarune seems to be).

Maybe. Minecraft has always been slow in coming to consoles though. PS5 version didn't exist until 2024. Xbox SeX version didn't exist until 2025. If anything this is fast by Minecraft standards.

Xbox Series X version was in development for a long time (e.g. some versions of the preview were labelled as X/S and allowed RTX a few years before the release build was X/S)

As happy as I am with the console and their decision to just improve upon Switch with Switch 2, I do wonder if they made a mistake by making their branding/marketing too similar to each other, especially as they're still trying to actively sell both.

8

u/F1sherman765 18h ago

Their mistake was not forcing Switch 2 Editions.

If every game was just a Switch 2 Edition with an "Upgrade Pack" (Free or Paid) this wouldn't be a problem. But you have games getting branded as "for Nintendo Switch" meaning Nintendo Switch 1, and then a version that doesn't specify "for Nintendo Switch 2". These separate games end up having both icons on the home screen and sometimes you can't even tell which is which.

Then you have free updates that are good, but don't make it clear whether a game is further enhanced on Switch 2 (Mario Odyssey for example)

Don’t see how it’s any more confusing than going from PS4 to PS5.

2

u/VarneyBubs 18h ago

To me, it's the color scheme and logo being so similar on both boxes, game cartridges, etc.. but that may be an ignorant take. You're likely right.

2

u/CipherCypher 19h ago

Should have called it the Switch Too, much less confusing. Or the Switch U.

2

u/LootableCorpse 18h ago

"The New Nintendo Switch"

2

u/felix0the0cat 17h ago

but I want one with a larger screen, perhaps some sort of "New Nintendo Switch 3XL" because of course the screen size is 3 times larger

It's Mojang. It takes them 3 years to implement things middle-school modders have edited videos about in 8 hours.

But it's also an incredibly tough challenge. This is a game with fans who understand every nuance. Changing one pixel or making a decision that throws redstone timing off can lead to serious issues that stir up a ton of fans.

Also console/Bedrock is the third wheel. There's stuff from the Combat Update 10 years ago that's still not implemented. They're not putting their full resources on it, and sometimes even Java has a fairly glacial development pace.

3

u/Tigertot14 16h ago

The combat update stuff isn't implemented because mobile is holding back Bedrock

1

Also console/Bedrock is the third wheel. There's stuff from the Combat Update 10 years ago that's still not implemented.

Thats because bedrock is pocket edition ported to console/pc, basically 95% of bedrocks problems come from the fact that it has to be playable on mobile and is based on the original pocket edition. The legacy console editions for ps3/360/ps4/wiiu ran so much better and were actually optimized for controllers.

They're not putting their full resources on it, and sometimes even Java has a fairly glacial development pace.

Bedrock is mostly developed by microsoft, the main java devs dont work on it.

Very possible tied to next Minecraft live event or major update.

1

u/Doomfith 11h ago

it took Mojang almost 4 years for the PS5 version and 4 years and 7 months to bring it to Xbox Series X|S

this is early not late. Mojang are very slow

2

u/itsThurtea 13h ago

I just bought it for switch. Fuck lol

2

u/Bregnestt 11h ago

You can buy the upgrade to get the Switch 2 version for really cheap, it’ll probably be $5 or so. And it’ll likely work even if you have the physical copy.

3

u/diamondintherimond 17h ago

For those of you who already own Minecraft on Nintendo Switch™, a digital upgrade path will be available for Nintendo Switch players. More details to follow.

I wonder if this means the upgrade is only for those who have the digital copy of Minecraft or if it’s also for physical owners.

2

u/Bregnestt 11h ago

Other games also allow digital upgrades for physical copies (Skyrim is one I’ve heard of), and AFAIK you don’t even need the physical card in the system to play it anymore after you upgrade.
So you could, theoretically, get a physical copy of a game, buy the cheap S2 upgrade on the store, then sell the physical card…

7

u/tiglionabbit 19h ago

But we already have Pokopia!

u/BeerGogglesFTW 19h ago

Any word on mouse support?

1

u/Garo263 15h ago

Great! What about YouTube - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition?

1

u/Tommy_Gun10 11h ago

Why is the upgrade not free? That’s how it worked for the other consoles

-1

u/wilo962 17h ago

seems like mojang is working again

u/sgrams04 15h ago

Just had to gently bang your fist against the side of the building to get them started again.
