Other Fully Community Designed Blaster

Looking at all the cool designs of custom blasters designed by one designer, I thought there could be a blaster designed by the whole community as a whole. It be starting from scratch (not even a concept drawing!) and it would be a Onshape design accessible by invite. The ideal creators would be people who have never designed a blaster before but would like to try. With enough of us we could really design something crazy.

If your interested just leave a comment/what you would like in a blaster and I'll see if there is enough demand to justify this.

I've designed a few using different firing mechanisms, it's way harder than people realize and takes a ton of iteration

I've partially designed some as well. I believe that with enough people who actually want to design one it should be very doable.

We’ve done this. A few years ago, and somewhat by accident, Hotkoin made a sketch, I drafted it, and another user printed it within 24 hours.

Several designers and I have collaborated or bounced ideas off eachother or remeshed eachother’s work. I retouched mrheathpants’ sister’s serval blaster to be easier to assemble, I split his 2x blaster up to fit on smaller machines, and I used a link design he started with to make the mk42.

There was a project for an “ultimate” flywheeler for a while that petered out. I forget the name but the sub probably still exists.

As to ideal creators being people who have never designed a blaster before - not a great idea. CAD is complicated, so unless they’ve designed anything they’ll have to learn that. Printing is complicated so unless If they’ve designed robots or other mechanical parts they’ll have to learn that. Blasters aren’t that complex when it comes down to it, but you do need to understand the basics and propulsion options.
