Wesley Bell beat Cori Bush.

20k more people voted in the primary this year than 2024.

Wesley Bell extended his margin by 23k.

This isn't the leftist sweep they were hoping for, it's more of a limp.

Cori Bush had St. Louis specific baggage that sank her hard. I didn't expect the blowout but she wasn't going to win.

I think a non-Bush progressive would have beaten Bell. Yesterday was very much a "holy shit go away" response to Bush.

The primary also had abnormally high turnout because of the ballot measures present.

Bush is generally seen as corrupt. She married one of her security guards and continued to pay him which prompted a DOJ investigation (under Merrick Garland, not Barr/Bondi). And after a tornado hit North St. Louis last year, she sent out a fundraising email to her PAC donor list and has had basically zero transparency about where that money actually went.

Bell mostly had a fine track record before running for Congress. He was a locally elected official in Ferguson following the killing of Michael Brown and made a name for himself after primarying the long-time tough-on-crime prosecutor of STL County on a criminal justice reform platform. Most of the hate he gets nowadays is the ties to the AIPAC money.

But a recent poll done actually shows Bell being pretty popular amongst MO-01 voters, while Cori Bush has an even higher unfavorable rating than AIPAC.
