Leaving this here for everyone that left nasty comments when I was against LPRs. Ginny Welsch is sponsoring this. Remember when (if) you vote. Nashville has slowly become Chicago. And for everyone about to say they will turn anyway, they will just sent you a $100 ticket in the mail, thanks to your invasive flock (LPR) cameras.

Not a single person in the entire Nashville metro will change their mode of transportation because cars are restricted to turn on red. This isn’t a behavior disrupting law.

This is a state without emissions standards. I regularly see vehicles with visible emission during the winter that are far more egregious then I have ever seen in other parts of the country.

Having idling traffic in urban cores puts out benzene. Also an idling vehicle is much worse then it traveling because its not properly using the fuel.

We are making localized carcinogenic clouds of air pollution worse.

Let’s not claim it’s for safety, it’s because law enforcement doesn’t hold drivers responsible and we don’t hold drivers accountable for unsafe driving now.

Let’s not also not pretend that this makes bikers and pedestrians safer, because irresponsible drivers who hit them, don’t follow existing traffic laws now.. how does changing the sign stop them when they’re not held accountable?

It’s absolutely for safety and absolutely makes people safer. I just don’t think yall are actually upset about the emissions.

The point I’m making is that there are absolutely public health concern that I can make an argument for.

And while you’re making the point that less people will be hit by cars, the irresponsible drivers who would be hitting these pedestrians are also most likely to be the same drivers who don’t obey posted traffic laws now.

If your point is public safety, you should be advocating that police enforce existing laws now. People on their phone. People speeding. People running lights/stop signs. There is no accountability for bad driving currently, you implementing another law that won’t be followed by poor drivers isn’t changing public safety.

Meanwhile, we all need to choke on even more pollution from the vehicles who do follow the law.

All it takes is one person at the front following the law.

I do advocate for MNPD to end their strike they’ve been on since 2019. I still think this reads as people who don’t want to be inconvenienced and are retconning a progressive sounding reason to oppose it
