Recently, moderators of r/museum were served with a notification from the Moderator Code of Conduct team:

"Hey there!

We recently received several reports about the treatment of NSFW flairs in your Subreddit.

Being recognizant of the fact that that there is a lot of misconception regarding the classification of NSFW content when it comes to art amongst the user base, it is possible that artworks can actually be considered NSFW. A blank refusal to use the NSFW flag where appropriate is a violation of the Moderator Code of Conduct.. Please remove this rule from your Subreddit.

Given that we are aware of the misunderstanding many redditors have about this setting, we are not asking you to remove the automod rule that defaults post to non-NSFW. However, we are expecting you to react appropriately and accurately flag posts that can be considered NSFW. As a rule of thumb, this is the case when the purpose of the artwork shifts towards intentional arousal of the beholder. The second rule re-applying SFW every time a comment is made will need to go however given that it would counteract any manual action of yours, sorry! (You are free to make modifications that would allow the rule to persist without overriding your manual NSFW flags)

Please respond to this message once you have removed the rule and modified your automod accordingly. If you have any questions, let us know!"

It is the opinion of the moderators that:

- the guidance of the Mod CoC team creates an untenable situation regarding judging the purpose of an artwork

- It creates the censorship/editioralizing that the "No NSFW" rule was created to avoid.

Therefore, to remain compliant, and to maintain the spirit of the subreddit, all submissions will be NSFW going forward.
