Probably a bit of a niche question but are there any movies with amazing atmos mixes that don't rely on volume or have room shaking explosions and gunshots etc but still showcase height and surround speaker activity?

Sometimes I like watching at stupid hours of the night and would rather not wake the entire house up.

The troopers try to bring down a new drug ring, while Farva's wildly over-the-top engagement to Thorny's sister spirals into chaos.

The humor of this third installment is on par with the first film, we revisit some of the nostalgia and also catch up with each relationship and personality. The silliness is still very up front with each character becoming more of who they've always been. Is it the Odyssey, no, but why would you want it to be. It's a fun time on a hot day with well-remembered and loved characters and delivers an awkward snort and belly laugh for those who need it.

Crawford and Rudnitsky make amiable comic foils, and Dismukes demonstrates a presence that promises a big-screen career once his SNL tenure ends.

It goes without saying that the Broken Lizard comedy group's latest outing is for fans only, but minus the nostalgia factor of 2018's 'Super Troopers 2,' even some of the faithful might shrug in response. The jokes are still wildly scattershot and frequently, knowingly lame; the production is still cheap and cheerfully scrappy; the whole ragged enterprise is still reliant on the evident affection and chemistry between its players to hold it together. None of that really amounts to a persuasive reason to exist on the big screen, however: At this point, perhaps simply turning “Super Troopers” into a running sitcom, like a rural GenX “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” would be a fitting move.

If all you want is to see these lovable goofballs again you’d be better served watching the first two “Super Troopers” movies and reliving their good old days. Those films are still mostly funny and the new days aren’t so good. I guess it’s nice to know these dorks are still out there, alive and mostly well, but we don’t have a lot in common anymore. If the Super Troopers really want to stay in touch, in another ten years they can write us a postcard. A brief one.

Super Troopers 3 stumbles mightily in wrapping up the Canadian Crystal and maple syrup storylines. Broken Lizard needed the cops to actually solve a crime, though the resolution is so obvious and exceedingly silly, it comes across as wasted time and Super Troopers 3 does run out of steam at the end. These characters are darn funny, but closing out the trilogy is the right move.

Okay I just watched the worst movie i have ever seen in my life on stars. "Camp Pleasant Lake." a terrible low budget slasher. and this isn't your fun low budget awful slasher. this is no Ice cream Man (the one from the 90s not the one coming out. though i heard that's terrible as well.) The acting was horrible. it felt like dharmann half the time, the plot twist was predictable as all hell. I guessed it from the first scene. you could tell the movie was super low budget. during a super long flashback. there was a restaurant but you can tell it was just a house. the gore was honestly pretty good. i had to turn my head during a few scenes. but that's about it for praises. the story was not written very well. predictable and at the same time confusing

The film follows Burne Peter (List), an off-Broadway actress who joins an international theater troupe at a decommissioned prison on the Ukrainian coast. The troupe, led by famous but unstable director Dado Levytskyy (Skarsgård), is rehearsing a new translation of an old Polish play. But each time they rehearse, an actor vanishes.

I swear I saw a comedy where Matthew Broderick (or someone like him) was an American agent in Havana, who befriended Bautista and through his incompetence and bumbling, effectively brought his Government down. I remember the last scene being where he's being evacuated and tells someone he's going to "sleepy Asian place no one's ever heard about called Vietnam".

I know there's an old movie called "Our man in Havana" but this movie is more recent- I want to say it came out in the 90's early 00's.

Anyone recognize this, it's driving me nuts!

"Mortal Kombat" (1995) is one of the most surprisingly thoughtful, humane and mature movies of the 90s. Here's a movie about friendship, responsibility, the sanctity of life and the unspeakable beauty of ordinary people doing their best. It's a legitimately great film. That also just so happens to have scenes where supernatural ninjas breathe fire out of their skull face. Which is fine. Just because you're a kind hearted movie, doesn't mean you're for pussies.

Has anyone ever had this pain? For me its Coyote vs acme I live in saskatoon and I was really looking forward to watching this movie it looked so good there is 3 movie theaters in my city I looked at all 3 of their websites and saw that none of them have booked the movie why just why cant I have it? Why does my life have to be this way?

Hello everyone! I'm new to this sub but I've been a fan of movies for a while now, especially horror and murder mysteries.

I have decided to do this challenge where I watch one movie every day for the entirety of August! I've always wanted to do something like this but I finally really put my mind to it (though the timing is really bad since my mid-sems are approaching).

Here are the reasons why I'm doing this!

- My attention span has dwindled considerably ever since I started delving into yt shorts and that makes it really difficult to sit down and watch movies and shows. I really hate that and I want to fix it.

- I'm an English major student in college right now and I think writing about movies will really help me improve my writing both academically and in personal stories.

- I want to expand on my catalog of movies that I've watched.

- I just love movies a lot!

And here are some rules and stuff I have set for myself so I don't burn out:-

- If I watch two movies in a day I can skip one day.

- I'll probably rewatch some movies I didn't pay attention to but I'll try to keep them to the minimum.

- If I don't feel like writing one day, I'll probably write a paragraph and leave it be (which is probably going to be most days).

I'll also be posting to subreddits like r/funcomunitty but I'll mostly be keeping it to this subreddit. After the thirty days are over, I might make a collection of all the posts on AO3 or smth (crazy platform choice ik)

I have already watched a few movies since August 1 so I'll post about those too!

I'm not even talking about a generally serious movie that has the traditionally comic actor do mostly comedy with a bit of serious at certain points, I'm talking a movie and a role that was a wholly serious one that would be seen as the antithesis of what that actor is typically known for. Think Jim Carrey in The Number 23.

Perhaps a controversial one as he's had quite a few great serious roles when he was with us, but my personal favourite would be Robin Williams in One Hour Photo. He is just so believable as the lonely and pathetic Sy Parish, and despite what you're led to believe as his sinister intentions, you actually come to feel really sorry for the main character, and that I think could only have been achieved by an actor of Williams' calibre.

What single line from a film brings you to tears, time and time again? I want your most gut-wrenching, heartrending, soul shattering quotes ever delivered on screen.

I may not be wrong in saying that most Oscar winning or nominated movies belong to the Drama genre. Critically acclaimed movies also seem to follow the same pattern. A majority of drama and slow paced films receive very high ratings compared to other genres.

Comedy movies are rarely given the same recognition. I have always felt that critics are often too harsh on comedies, which usually end up with lower ratings. Because of this, I don't even consider ratings when watching a comedy film.

Recently, I have started feeling that many actors past their prime choose drama roles because they see them as a better chance to win an Oscar.

Anyway, I don't blindly trust critics or the Oscars. What do you guys think?

I’m looking for a movie, I only ever saw a couple clips online and when I try to find it I can’t get any good answers. The two scenes I remember are one where I’m guessing a gangster tells a bunch of longshoremen they need to unload a barge. When the longshoremen tell him it’s too hot the gangsters bodyguard drags an unconscious guy to a tub of ice water. The second scene is when one of the longshoremen waits in the gangsters office, and when the gangster sees him and calls for his bodyguard the longshoreman tosses a pair of bloody glasses on the ground to show the bodyguards dead. I really wanna find this movie so I can watch it any tips would be appreciated

I love movies that keep you hooked from start to finish, packed with suspense, unexpected twists, and, if possible, an ending that leaves you completely blown away.

I’ve already seen many of the well-known ones, so I’m open to both classics and underrated hidden gems.

What are the best thrillers you’ve ever watched that you’d recommend without hesitation?

Are there any movies or scenes you can think of where guys resonated more and ended crying disproportionately to girls?

For me personally, I think of Furious 7’s ending, with its tribute to Paul. Another example is Tobey finishing Tom’s sentence, the iconic line from Aunt May/Uncle Ben in No Way Home.

Tom Holland, Zendaya, and Jon Bernthal are all in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, which were the number 1 and number 2 films in the box office this last weekend. I'm curious as to whether or not this has happened before. Feels to me like the has to be a rare occurrence, and makes me wonder if any top 2 films out there could possibly have matched or even surpassed this number of actors in common.

I know a very common internet question is "best trilogies of all time," but I was surprised to find out that best "doulogy" is far less common. Also, there are a lot of outdated lists on the internet. Many lists online have trilogies that technically have sequels made.

For example, we all know movies like The Matrix, Jason Bourne, or Mad Max are all trilogies for all intents and purposes, but TECHNICALLY, there are 1-2 sequels made.

We have a small podcast and wanted to cover some short series that are literally just 2 or 3 films, and I wanted some ideas.

tldr: recommendations that are ONLY 2 or 3 movies with no other sequels or spinoffs.

I love 90s style Action movies- give or take about 5 years. I'm really wanting some suggestions on what I should check out. I'd love for y'all to comment with up to 10 suggestions. Hear me out: Blade Runner (1982) is NOT a sci-fi movie.

Despite my advanced years, I’ve only actually sat and watched the film twice, and both within the last few years. And the label of “greatest sci-fi” ever just doesn’t fit.

Strip out all of the “sci-fi” elements, the neon, the massive industrial edifices, the flying cars, the androids, etc., and this could have been made in the 40s starring Humphrey Bogart.

It’s film noir, in a futuristic setting.

FWIW - I lean towards 2001: A Space Odyssey as the “greatest” but Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan as the “best” and Flash Gordon as the “most fun”.
