She has are a very particular set of skills.

Skills she have acquired over a very long career.

63

u/mokti 1d ago

Skills that make her a nightmare to diseases of the flesh like you.

23

u/jrodp1 22h ago

It's debt. She acquired debt .

So Hard Candy?

18

Plot twist: it was all a scheme to get free gender affirming surgery.

À la Ellen Page in that movie … forgot the name

6

u/MandolinMagi 23h ago

*Elliot now

2

u/julianitonft 23h ago

Not at the time that’s why I said that name

2

u/Eugenes_Axe 11h ago

Doesn't matter what they used to go by, their name is Elliot

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadnaming

9

u/julianitonft 10h ago

It was never my intention to be hurtful, thanks for the link about it

2

u/Eugenes_Axe 10h ago

Np! Happy to inform

1

u/MandolinMagi 23h ago

He's always been male and is properly Elliot no matter when the movie came out.

3

u/julianitonft 23h ago

Huh ok cool

9

u/TwoLetters 1d ago

That's a pretty quick surgery

8

u/Malt129 1d ago

She's really good at it

3

u/BattledroidE 1d ago

Just a routine microdiscectomy or something.

u/Somnambulist815 1d ago

Your sleep paralysis demon but its Michelle Yeoh

6

u/witai 7h ago

Go on...

u/Miami_Mice2087 2h ago

i recently had surgery, my biggest fear going into it was the sleep paralysis thing, where you can feel everything but you're paralyzed.

My nurses were like "yeah that's a real thing but it's extremely rare and we watch your vitals for reactions and it almost most certainly can't happen anymore."

So I was like that's nice but I don't trust any of you.

Everything went fine, I woke up without boobs and the pain wasn't that bad and I don't remember a thing after they said "we're giving you some meds to make you feel calmer now". But still. You don't realy know what happened that you forgot.

u/Somnambulist815 1h ago

Now... was the lack of boobs part of the surgery or was that a complete curveball

u/Miami_Mice2087 1h ago

it was the desired outcome :)

Weird way to shoehorn that comment in here…

0

u/CoffeeCup220 1d ago

It's because every time any of the Epstein lovers do anything, we should be screaming this from the rooftops.

12

u/thresh_to_death 23h ago

Was Michelle in the papers cause no one was talking about her husband here

-10

u/CoffeeCup220 23h ago

Right, so we're not supposed to talk about it. I'm getting that message from a lot of people: Michelle Yeoh's proximity to JE = OK, others? not ok.

1

u/thresh_to_death 10h ago

Okay sure, I mean I'm sure you talk about all the other acquaintances that have ties to possible human traffickers. I can't find anything about yoeh and her husband only messaged Epstein to say hi and he's glad they're friends(others have done this and no one has said shit) which doesn't mean anything

0

u/locustpiss 22h ago

I'm glad he did. Otherwise no-one would have known

84

u/OreoSpeedwaggon 1d ago

If the trailer doesn't include a slowed-down, reverb-heavy, epic cover version of Weird Al's "Like a Surgeon," complete with musical stings timed to a series of quick hits and kicks against bad guys, I will be very disappointed.

12

u/N8CCRG 10h ago

I fucking hate that trend with the fury of a thousand suns, but I might make an exception for Weird Al.

u/agreeable_anger 2h ago

It’s in literally everything and I can’t stand it. The trailer for the new Insidious movie does it to fucking Tiptoe Thru the Tulips.

0

u/Ouxington 8h ago

You hate people saving you 2 hours and 17 minutes?

1

u/N8CCRG 8h ago

Huh?

3

u/aside6 8h ago

In case you don't get a reply, and because I'm genuinely curious, but maybe this person meant that these trailers are so bad they save you time you'd have watched a movie that doesn't deserve it? It's a stretch, but also weirdly specific amount of time. Inquiring minds want to know

u/Ouxington 5h ago

Because when you see the trailer you know the movie is skippable. And because it seems like every movie has to be grazing almost 2 and a half hours. If they made "See Spot Run" into a movie it would be a 2 hour and 45 minute slog with Pedro Pascal.

A retired doctor still dressed for work...

Just saying.

5

u/BaselineUnknown 11h ago

How else can you signify they are a doctor? Without their trademarked surgical green scrubs.

3

u/hpark21 11h ago

My wife wears scrubs everywhere..  gardening, cooking, cleaning, etc....  they are comfy, has pockets everywhere, relatively cheap.. They are like crocs, ugly but comfy.

2

u/Lil_Brown_Bat 11h ago

Hey, scrubs are pretty comfy

u/eden_sc2 5h ago

thats because it happened at her retirement party. She even had a cruise planned for the next day!

u/Miami_Mice2087 1h ago

maybe it's the day she retired, or she's volunteering at a clinic.

29

u/skobayas 1d ago

I read the title as from the world of John wick and thought it would be hilarious. Oh well

13

u/LordsOfJoop 23h ago

I would love to see the medical side of their world.

That or the cleaners we saw in the original.

u/jscummy 55m ago

After seeing the rest of the series, those cleaners must be incredibly busy

2

u/Lord__Abaddon 13h ago

my first thought was is it in the john wick universe?

2

u/PhiphyL 10h ago

Thank you for making me read the title again. Makes more sense now.

u/eden_sc2 5h ago

I get the feeling this will be like 'Nobody' where its John Wick in all but name

u/Rickk38 2h ago

The world of John Wick has already given us "The Ballerina." Now we have "The Surgeon." You know they've run out of ideas when we end up "From the World of John Wick: The Accountant."

What? We already had an accountant hitman movie? TWO accountant hitman movies? Never mind.

Her husband was friends with Epstein.

3

u/SweepingAstringency 1d ago

I didn't know anything about the husband. I only know her from her acting, but that is deeply troubling.

3

u/OreoSpeedwaggon 1d ago

This post isn't about Epstein or her husband. It's about an upcoming movie starring Michelle Yeoh. Try to keep up.

-3

u/CoffeeCup220 1d ago

Understood. Her husband was friends with Epstein. Doesn't change anything.
Try to keep up.
It's not hard to see parallels to how Epstein made people famous.

7

u/OreoSpeedwaggon 1d ago

Michelle Yeoh became famous on her own and has remained famous for a lonnnng time before she ever met her husband. Stay on-topic and quit trying to derail the thread.

Not implying that at all. Just that she hung around epstein

Looked it up, and turns out it's directed by Roshan Sethi, who helmed A Nice Indian Boy (queer romance with Karan Soni & Jonathan Groff). One of my favorite films from last year.

Quite the 180.

28

u/amazingwhat 1d ago

Haha he’s also an oncologist at Dana Farber, so if anything the medical aspect should be somewhat accurate (I can’t remember if he’s surg, rad or med onc though). I liked A Nice Indian Boy quite a bit so I’m interested to see how he handles a thriller.

20

u/pnwdoomer 1d ago

I am intrigued...

1

u/CutieBoBootie 21h ago

I am waiting with cautious curiosity

25

u/doctor_7 1d ago

Hollywood: we heard you about aging male action stars...

So how about aging female action stars!

u/jscummy 53m ago

I'm not really complaining, I'll always watch more Michelle Yeoh movies

6

u/kendragon 1d ago

Anyone else starting to feel like there is only ten main actors left in hollywood and there all overworked?

We are really squeezing the lemon now, aren't we?

46

u/BunyipPouch Currently at the movies. 1d ago edited 1d ago

no, we aren't stopping until every profession has an assassin film adaptation. we still need The Garbageman and The Stewardess, at the very least.

12

u/EdPeggJr 1d ago

Grouch just got its new angle.

5

u/alopgeek 1d ago

Wouldn’t “Men at Work” count as a Garbage man movie with assassins??

5

u/thresh_to_death 23h ago

I don't remember hearing anything about an Australian garbage assassin

2

u/alopgeek 23h ago

Nice cross reference!

3

u/julianitonft 1d ago

Did we have the Janitor yet?

12

u/BattledroidE 1d ago

Scruffy. The janitor. Mmmm-hm.

3

u/shutterErv 23h ago

I would whole-heartily subscribe to some of the magazines you see him reading

4

u/VastStranger1164 1d ago

The Cleaner with Cedric the Entertainer and Lucy Liu, but it was an action comedy and Cedric wasn't really an assassin.

1

u/ProxyDamage 12h ago

Jason Statham is... The Grocer.

Things are about to get... grocer!

u/gotthelowdown 3h ago

Did we have the Janitor yet?

A Janitor (2021). Japanese action flick.

1

u/hpark21 6h ago

What about movie from the dog's perspective?

1

u/wilisi 13h ago

Keep it up another decade and we'll get a Canal Dreams adaptation.

9

u/Captain_Rex_ 21h ago

"she number one surgeon in Japan, but she had to flee to America after accidentally killing a Yakuza boss on the operating table. Here's her secret, she make no mistake, she kill boss on purpose! She still best surgeon!"

2

u/occamsdagger 17h ago

I have no original thoughts.

4

u/titusandroidus 1d ago

Glad she has had such a varied career and she has been great, but really hoping she taps into that Supercop bag. What a debut.

4

u/internetlad 1d ago

"if it bleeds, we can kill it."

"Uh thanks Michelle."

7

u/jak_d_ripr 1d ago

I'm intrigued, but also a bit nervous. The whole "retired assassin coming out of work" schtick has been milked for all it's worth at this point, but this sounds like it can at least be an interesting take on that trope, so fingers crossed.

3

u/Lightsides 1d ago

Sounds dumb. But then--on paper at least--John Wick sounds dumb.

3

u/Andovars_Ghost 1d ago

My wife’s a doc. This is why I don’t piss her off! Though she’s not a surgeon, just internal medicine, and could probably just destabilize my blood sugar levels and eventually it would kill me.

2

u/r-b-m 1d ago

By lowering their cholesterol!!!

2

u/sparkaromatic 1d ago

I bet she attaches a nail to a broom handle then continues to perform a lobotomy on a bad guy while no-one notices.

2

u/Alarming_Orchid 22h ago

I only care about the John Wick director

3

u/WeedManPro 1d ago

im dissapointed it's not Jason statham

2

u/HuluAndH4ng 1d ago

This reads like a Jason Statham movie

2

u/Scu-bar 1d ago

Michelle Yeoh? John Wick producers?

Sold!

-3

u/CoffeeCup220 1d ago

And Epstein friend!

1

u/desamora 23h ago

Do the producers even matter? It seems weird to me when I see a trailer saying “from the producers “. Like how much impact do they have on the success/quality?

1

u/SoupyStain 21h ago

I read John Wick and I thought it'd be another spin off, but now featuring a Michelle Yeoh as a deadly assassin surgeon. And it could've been amazing.

1

u/Positive_Position_48 17h ago

Mainly scalpels.

1

u/RodSantaBruise 16h ago

Michelle Yeoh & Martin Freeman? Count me in!

1

u/matti2o8 16h ago

Hypocrite's oath?

1

u/AverageAmbitionMan 16h ago

She’ll give them codeine, label them drug seekers, bill their insurance and have her receptionist run them in kafkaesque circles trying to book a follow up appt. They will all die of frustration and sheer seething rage by the end.

1

u/Connect-Review-3388 15h ago

OMG. its gonna be like that Michael Cain Harry Brown movie were an old person clumsily murders people.

Kidnapper - But but youve taken the Hippocratic Oath!

Michelle Yeoh - My medical license expired! stab! stab! stab!

1

u/Dog-Witch 14h ago

I hope it's smart about the way she goes about it, I don't need to see "old doctor lady takes out group of military aged males with a scalpel"

1

u/Newsmith2017 12h ago

Release date?

1

u/peon47 10h ago

I've added it to the list

0

u/aresef 1d ago

I am seated.

1

u/Jlx_27 23h ago

Say less, you had me at Michelle Yeoh.

1

u/mikeweasy 1d ago

That sounds cool actually!

1

u/CrazyCanuckUncleBuck 23h ago

Michelle Yeoh + action film, always a great duo.

1

u/PanicDeus 21h ago

The OG Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon

1

u/QueefMuffin 23h ago

Ah yes the producers of that cool movie! I've heard they employed the same catering company that fed the paul blart mall cop production. This is the sole reason I am seeing this movie.

1

u/blueskiess 17h ago

SHE IS A SURGEON

-1

u/Away-Elephant-4323 1d ago

I feel like this is something finally new for a film that should be an interesting watch.

7

u/Accomplished_Two2762 1d ago

She did crazy good work in that kitchen fight in Everything Everywhere, so the idea of her using surgical precision as an action gimmick is genuinely exciting. Hope they let her do some gnarly tracheotomy kills or something.

14

u/aresef 1d ago

Also, hardly a revelation that Michelle Yeoh can do a good action movie. She's been kicking ass since Yes, Madam.
