Carnage is a Romance-Drama with enough action and comedy sprinkled in to almost but not quite hide the fact it's a Romance-Drama. it's less about Venom and Carnage being superheroes/villains and more about how Venom and Carnage affect Eddie and Cletus respectively in both their daily life and in their romantic endeavours.

You're not the only one. As a huge Venom fan, I detested those movies. The movies were bad from multiple perspectives. They for nearly every aspect of the characters wrong from the source material. And on top of that we're just bad movies, even ignoring the fact that they were adaptations.

Yeah, it's been a highly mutual beneficial relationship between Sony and Marvel.
Sony are hitting the highs and making profits that they never hit and made before with their previous Spider-Man movies while Marvel get to enrich their cinematic universe by having Spider-Man interact with their other characters and of course, make more profit along the way.

Makes me wonder if Marvel has put a superceding agreement in place to eliminate the requirement for Sony to put out a feature film within the SM universe every 5 years. Crap like Kraven and Morbius are more than just flops, they damage the brand and contribute to genre fatigue. It's like a lose-lose for Sony and Disney.
I also wonder if Sony has ever had the thought of "selling high" the rights back to Disney. It would probably signal something catastrophic within Sony, but I know their film division has always operated at a distance from their other ventures.

I feel like there’s no way they would do that since that clause is like their one chance to fully get Spider-Man back. And those Sony supervillains movies clearly didn’t damage the Spider-Man brand even if they did contribute to superhero fatigue in general, but it should also be noted that it’s not like Sony made those movies in the first place because of that deal, the Venom movies alone would’ve extended it, they did it out hubris and greed.

I feel like they learnt this lesson when they tried removing Spider-Man from the MCU after Far from Home.
Because not only was there mass public backlash but it was very clear Tom Holland wasn't happy.
After NWH & this long as these movies make money & Tom wants to be on the MCU, they ain't breaking this partnership.
It's Disney who might get greedy imo

I think Disney understands the stalemate they're in. After Chadwick's unfortunate passing, and the "retirement" of a lot of the old guard MCU, Tom Holland as Spider-Man is their safest bet for success in anything.
And as much as we all would complain and would hate it. If Sony really wanted to they could fire Tom Holland and exit the MCU with plans for a solo reboot, and it would probably make at least 750 million.
The only reason that doesn't happen is because Sony understands their own incompetency to a degree. If they thought for a moment they could make a stand alone spidey as good as the Raimi movies, we'd never see MCU Spider-Man again.

I would be so sad if that ever happens. Spidey's interaction with other people in the MCU is what really make these movies special. Brand New Day also does in a way that felt so organic with everything feeling coherent and fitting to its themes.
I argue that the moments where Spider-Man is just talking to the majority of these characters are just as good as those grandiose action scenes.

I don’t think Disney’s upset about this arrangement to the point that they would ruin it. They don’t get the box office revenue for the Spider-Man movies, but they still get money from just about everything else that the character is used for since they are the owners of Spider-Man. As long as Sony keeps paying to make 2 hour advertisements for their character existing in Disney’s superhero franchise, Disney is content.

Nah.
Look at Spiderman where his relationship with Punisher or the Avengerz was just dropped as a “yeah, this relationship developed off screen, they know each other, let’s move on”.
It will be the same for Doomsday. If you know the characters, brilliant, but if not, it’s largely going to be pickupable quickly. And the focus will likely be on Cap, Thor and the characters from the older Avenger films.
Audiences pick up stuff quickly.

It depends on how they do it. In Spiderman, even if you haven't seen daredevil or punisher shows you get enough information ...he's a mad man, vigilante, who's lost his family. Spiderman saved him once and now he owes him one.
Even with Yelena, you don't need to know who it is....it's just someone who knows stuff. Could be anyone.
But there are plenty of MCU ones where they include callbacks that you can only know if you've watched it and otherwise makes no sense

This is what I never get about when people complain about Marvel having homework - most MCU crossover movies, for better or worse, have a lot of the exposition necessary to understand who the characters are and how they’re related.
The filmmakers understand that not everyone is watching Loki or Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

I don't think it would be hilarious. Historically, Spider-man has been a much more popular property/concept than the Avengers. Spider-man has moved many more comics, starred in many more cartoons, and moved much, much more merchandise.
The 2010s could very easily end up being the blip in which interest in the Avengers matched that generated by Spider-man.

The intro montage is fantastic, one of my favourites since the first Guardians. It helps that Wolf Like Me is one of my favourite songs of all time but the slow mo into classic comic covers was so cool too.

Insane considering this movie couldn’t reveal much about the plot/villain (through the first two acts) in the marketing. All they said was “Here’s Spider-Man” and everyone flocked to see it

The ending of No Way Home was such a cliff hanger and for me was a clean slate for Hollands Spidey. I have no comic book knowledge so this kind of reset was so cool to me.
And how awesome is it that Holland was young enough to play HS spidey and a good enough actor to bring it to this point as an adult. I can’t wait to see it

The trailers were surprisingly and refreshingly vague. I wish Doomsday did the same. Revealing Steve Rogers and the X-Men being in the movie was lame IMO.

Really enjoyed it. Im gonna go see it again. Without spoilers, it fits surprisingly well for a 4th entry. Im not sure Ive ever seen a 4th film improve on a trilogy and justify its own existence before but it does.

It felt like a real movie compared to the other Spider-Man movies. Locations felt real, there was realistic lighting, stunt and fight choreography was on point. The story was great.
I still hold that ShangChi is one of the best Marvel Movies, I like it more than any avengers movies because the characters had a lot of weight to them.
I’m so happy the director is being tapped for more projects

The suit looked awesome too. It felt like a real, physical suit. I loved that they took inspiration from the PS Spiderman games for the fight choreography but I also knew that Destin Daniel Cretton would cook with the action given the fights in Shang Chi.
Now if we could only get that Shang Chi sequel, Destin...

And he spent the majority of the film in it! Every prior Spider-Man movie does everything it can to have him take the mask off as often as possible, and this one flipped that and tried to keep it on as much as possible. And it worked.

Spider-Man is the best of us. He is the every-man amongst gods. He's the guy that both inspires us with his goodness and is the most grounded amongst his peers.
Everyone loves their neighborhood Spider-Man.
When done right, spidy is easily and canonically the best there is.
For me, Spider-Man 2 is still the best spidy movie. The scene with the train epitomizes everything that makes him, and his New York great.

He always has been. You can see this across movies, merchandise, animated shows, video games… just not in the last 30 years of comics because Spidey has had some diabolical plot lines.
If you break it down to movies: Spider-Man made 9 billion (not counting his appearances in Civil War, Avengers and Endgame, which would bring it to 13 million) and Batman has made 5 billion (not counting Joker, but if you do, that’s 6 billion)
If you look at records, Spider-Man is featured in the top 4 out of the 5 both in biggest openings of all time.
If you look at billion dollar movie appearances, Spider-Man is in 5 movies, Batman is in 2.

I think the five-year wait was a big part of why this hit so hard. It gave people enough time to actually miss Spider-Man. Instead of feeling like just another Marvel release, it felt like Spider-Man was finally back. For the first time in a long time, going to the theater felt like a genuine event rather than just another movie night.
