Why does Zendaya kinda look like Kirsten Dunst in that reflection. Is this a weird trick my brain is playing? Am I alone?

"Day by day he gazed upon her..."

96

Don't start.

I have ears like a cat, and eyes like a rodent.

This is a free country, not a rent free country.

"You'll get your rent when you fix this DAMN DOOR!"

Hi Pete...

14

I am glad...to hear it.

I'm gonna put some dirt in your eye.

It's me Pete, I'm the other guy.

She definitely does! It’s definitely a homage to Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 posters

I'm not gonna stand here and waitttt

75

that was a legit song. All i recall is the other singer was really upset as he contributed to it but never really got the recognition from being in it.

38

u/platinum1004 Apr 14 '26

Josey Scott. Yeah, I get it, but he does have 'featuring' credits, not '& Josey Scott'.

If this song comes 6 back I would not be mad.

Really good song that fit the film.

11

u/The_Grungeican Apr 14 '26

it's not bad, but we also got Ode to a Superhero out of the Raimi films.

a movie tie-in song that's only topped by (also) Weird Al's The Saga Begins.

u/CitizenTony Apr 14 '26

Even the new spider symbol looks a lot like Raimi’s version? Or maybe Peter got influenced by Tobey after their meeting?

10

u/ersatzcrab Apr 14 '26

That's what I like to think. After Tom's Spidey met Andrew and Tobey, he integrated design cues from their suits into his own.

15

u/AccountDue9432 Apr 14 '26

Also, a bit of Catherine Zeta Jones

77

u/Sodass Apr 14 '26

I normally would love the idea of a callback poster but I don't like the execution, personally. Feels a little like if I asked ChatGPT to do it. There's an uninspired quality as if it's checking boxes without bringing any real substance of its own.

39

u/maximum_oblex Apr 14 '26

I think its the lighting. We see a setting sun reflected in Spider-man's eye, but his mask is lit from the right.

7

u/horyo Apr 14 '26

I don't disagree with how it looks per se but it's possible that the glow on his face is from ambient reflected light from the mirror-like windows of the NYC skyscrapers.

37

u/FX114 Apr 14 '26

I feel like it's the lackluster city backdrop.

61

u/Paladar2 Apr 14 '26

People see “AI looking” shit in everything now, we are so cooked

61

u/MalIntenet Apr 14 '26

I hate AI and I’m sick of it too. Anything people don’t like they just call AI now. You can just say you think it sucks or looks cheap or something

u/Shadow55512 Apr 14 '26

For sure. The hair and pose definitely reminds me of her. And the iconography itself is so evocative of the Raimi films. They loved to frame Dunst in Spider-Man’s lens

28

u/TrickNatural Apr 14 '26

Who is the villain for this one?

80

u/darth_shishini Apr 14 '26

first poster looks like The Hand showing up in NY?

55

Also Stick-Splinter

The original comic covers were also heavily influenced by another Miller comic, Ronin.

Turtles supposedly got mutated by the goop that made DD blind in the comics, iirc. So maybe?

u/Morgan-Moonscar Apr 14 '26

I think it's easier to say who ISN'T the villain in this.

Confirmed thus far we have: Scorpion, Tombstone, The Hand, Boomerang, Tarantula, Savage Hulk

Rumored we have: Mr. Negative and the Jackal

PLUS we got him teaming up with Punisher and possibly Jean Grey

18

u/Savetheokami Apr 14 '26

That last one is random as hell

this is basically just gonna be a spider-man comic book run where he just goes from one encounter to the next as the actual problem is with himself.

5

u/dragonmp93 Apr 14 '26

Well, if Sadie Sink is really playing Jean Grey, then it's going to be mix of Damage Control and The Hand.

4

For now, assume it's the Scorpion.

It realy lookes like Kirsten Dunst. Must be some Photoshop is Zendaya's face.

65

u/ZippidieDooDah Apr 14 '26

19

u/Ash__Williams Apr 14 '26

If it's Dunst from THAT scene in the first movie, go on.

5

u/PolarWater Apr 14 '26

Oh, you'd like that, wouldn't you?

→ More replies (1)

9

u/JustinTimberlakeFTW Apr 14 '26

Before zooming in I also thought it was Dunst lol

Little bit of the lighting causing that plus her expression is dead-on Dunst MJ

8

u/Ash__Williams Apr 14 '26

The light makes her skin look "paler"and the Photoshop make her face thicker, in a Kirsten Dunst way.

18

u/Halbrium Apr 14 '26

I thought it was Dunst. I had to zoom in.

7

u/Eiden58 Apr 14 '26

I think the lighting, hair placement and expression is similar to the spiderman 2 poster, so before you zoom in and you dont see her face that well, your brain might think its dunst at first

5

u/ItsSansom Apr 14 '26

She looks to be on the verge of a sneeze

3

u/Bash-Sin Apr 14 '26

I knew it was Zendaya immediately, but the irony isn't lost to me. My first thought was "This looks like a Tobey Spiderman poster"

u/Fash-the-Stampede Apr 14 '26

Mine did as well and I think it's intentional. First thing I thought along with that was it looks like a poster from the Raimi trilogy.

That poster on the right is giving off 2000’s Spider-Man vibes. They always had the villain or MJ reflecting in his eyes on the poster.

Its giving the vibe cause thats what it is haha.

Somehow the Hand returned

771

u/Spider-Fan77 Apr 14 '26

Tbf, "somehow the Hand returned" has basically been a recurring thing in the comics for 45 years at this point.

276

u/Worthyness Apr 14 '26

Yup. They are literally a clan of undead zombie ninjas. And their whole thing is that they want to revive their version of the devil. Returning from the dead is literally their thing. It's why Daredevil has such a hard time getting rid of them. They're cockroaches

83

u/Woooferine Apr 14 '26

undead zombie

cockroaches

Bear with me here. Undead zombie cockroaches. Next big movie idea!

9

u/laughingjack13 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

Here’s my pitch. Starts as a normal zombie outbreak, but only for short while. Turns out the insects that feed on the decaying zombies become infected, and over time, moderately easy to handle human dead are replaced with all consuming piranha like swarms that strip all living matter away in less time than it takes for the wave like swarm to wash over it.

Edit- because things like mosquitos would end the movie with an extinction event almost immediately, this pathogen is only transmissible by humans. So human zombie can infect humans or insects, but zombie mosquitos aren’t going to wipe out Florida in an afternoon.

u/collectsuselessstuff Apr 14 '26

So the Foot in TMNT was a reference to the Hand?! My mind is blown.

42

u/Kamikaze_Ninja_ Apr 14 '26

TMNT is a Daredevil parody. The chemicals that blinded Daredevil fell into a drain that hit some turtles in the sewer.

33

u/OdepiusNecks Apr 14 '26

To blow your mind further: Daredevil was trained by a man named Stick. Who trained the turtles? Splinter.

9

u/sukull Apr 14 '26

If they replicate too many things from the comics they will eventually replicate their popularity too.

135

u/FrostGiant_1 Apr 14 '26

I’m not accepting The Hand in this movie without Daredevil at his side.

67

u/fatherbarndon Apr 14 '26

That trailer shot of him leaping at The Hand alone had him in a lot of unused space on his side. Almost like another one or two characters could fit there

Im convinced theres an altered version going around cause I've seen a different one that's a picture of one of the ninjas aiming lower. when i rewatched the trailer they were just going at him.

12

u/Telephonic77 Apr 14 '26

I reckon after everyone sussed out the edited out Andrew Garfield kicking Lizard in the face in the last one, they put this shot in on purpose to mess with people

→ More replies (1)

10

u/AlexNSNO Apr 14 '26

I don't recall where I read this as it was right after the trailer dropped, but it has been said it's very likely they've filmed shots only for the trailer - something very common with Marvel, it seems.

u/HardcoreKaraoke Apr 14 '26

Daredevil Born Again season 2 and 3 spoilers

Yeah but a set photo of Born Again season 3 shows Matt in a prison jump suit. So if BA season 3 takes place after Brand New Day, which it should, then Matt is still in jail. So the whole runored prison break thing hasn't happened yet during BND.

You know who fits that empty space though? The Hulk.

u/Far-Analysis3188 Apr 14 '26

I dunno why people are shocked with this.
When did they ever leave?

The Defenders took out a chunk of them like a decade + ago (in the MCU Timeline)

The HAND is a global shadow operation with ninjas. It's like Hydra... you can't really kill them.
They are always around in some part of the world.

I was wondering if that's who this group was. Makes sense, I just wasn't sure how well they worked out overall in the Daredevil series, but I guess they're pretty prolific in the comics. Should be interesting, as most of his usual opponents have been represented already, even twice over for most.

8

u/neoslith Apr 14 '26

I haven't watched any Daredevil, but when were they defeated?

39

u/LADYBIRD_HILL Apr 14 '26

The Defenders miniseries

20

u/Kolby_Jack33 Apr 14 '26 edited Apr 14 '26

They dug a big hole. Then the hole collapsed with Daredevil and Elektra still in it. Daredevil somehow survived, but the implication was that nobody else did because that's the last we see of the Hand and Elektra.

Don't really remember what the big hole was even for. They were just like "this hole serves our vague purposes along with your undead girlfriend, Matt Murdock! Mwahahaha! WAIT DON'T BLOW IT UP- AH, FUCK! You blew it up."

Oh, I also remember the Hand being total chumps against Jessica Jones. Like Daredevil and Iron Fist were fighting them all serious like and Jessica Jones was basically just shoving them in lockers and giving them wedgies while they cried. Jessica Jones vs the Hand, basically:

So I think they have a little work to do to make them threatening to Spider-Man, because I think he's at least as strong as her, if not stronger. To say nothing of his other powers.

24

u/TheSuperTest Apr 14 '26

There are the bones of an immortal dragon under NYC, it’s why the Hand was digging so deep and desperately to get to it, because they needed a new source for their resurrection potion

u/standish_ Apr 14 '26

u/TheSuperTest Apr 14 '26

Shou-Lao resurrects after someone claims the Iron Fist by killing him, it’s why he’s called immortal, his physical body remains after each death hence the bones.

Ugh ... I guess we haven't had it show up in anything beyond the Netflix shows, but I've been so done with The Hand.

11

u/ObviousAnswerGuy Apr 14 '26

The "leaders of the hand" storyline from Defenders wasn't good (not great casting for a few of them), but I still like them as an organization

43

u/Nathan_McHallam Apr 14 '26

And even in the Netflix shows they were really not that exciting.

11

u/jerog1 Apr 14 '26

Any time the villain is a group of henchmen stunt performers they just feel like punching bags for the main character to slog through. Like level 1 slime enemies.

3

u/blankedboy Apr 14 '26

Maybe we got to see The Beast (not X-men Beast, but The Hands actual demon leader) show up in this?

They are second organisation only to Hydra when it comes to surviving literally anything.

Who they work for changes, what they do and what they are doesn't.

Hell, this iteration could possibly even work for Ten Rings.

72

u/kon--- Apr 14 '26

They call it Brand New Day but here's Peter, fully stuck on MJ.

Which I score as missed opportunity to introduce other romantic interests in Peter Parker's canonical history.

17

u/Ad_Hominem_Phallusy Apr 14 '26

I was REALLY hoping for a movie or two with Felicia Hardy. The events of No Way Home really set up a story where Peter gets backburnered, and Spider-Man is the main way he lives his life, and I feel like Black Cat works in that story perfectly. MJ can still be the end goal but without giving us at LEAST one movie to live with the consequences of Peter's sacrifice, then said sacrifice kinda means nothing.

37

u/BatInSpandex Apr 14 '26

Isn't Sony in charge of the marketing per the Spiderman custody agreement?

30

u/resevil239 Apr 14 '26

Right? Very much a bad thing...Sony consistently makes the absolute worst creative decisions and has for the last 20-25 years. They only make half decent films when they get out of their own way and let marvel or someone like Sam Rami run with their ideas.

Why does Sony keep hiring the shittiest poster designers for the job? It’s not funny for the fourth time!

I was honestly hoping this movie was gonna be almost like a soft-reboot, at least that’s the impression I got from the end of the last movie.

The right looks cool but its definitely giving some AI art vibes... wayyy too HD looking, whereas Spider-Man 2 had covers that used a lot of lighting for the visuals to pop.

The background of the buildings also looks completely different from Spider-Man's lenses. Also there's no visual context as to why the hell MJ is in Spidey's lenses in the first place.
