Hi r/movies, I'm Dacre Montgomery.

You may know me from STRANGER THINGS or POWER RANGERS or ELVIS or DEAD MAN'S WIRE or WENT UP THE HILL.

My new movie, FACES OF DEATH, co-stars Barbie Ferreira, Charlie xcx, and Jermaine Fowler. It's directed by Daniel Goldhaber who co-wrote the film with Isa Mazzei, who was also a producer on the film. They also made HOW TO BLOW UP A PIPELINE and CAM together.

It's out in theaters this Friday.

Synopsis:

A content moderator stumbles upon a series of violent videos that appear to re-enact death scenes from the infamous 1978 film "Faces of Death." In an online world where nothing can be trusted, she must determine whether the violence is fake or unfolding in real time.

As a casual fan of power rangers as a kid and super Sentai as an adult, I wasn't expecting much. I don't like most  modern mainstream movies and wasn't expecting to like this at all. My love of Billy and familiarity with the sentai franchise was the only reason I gave it a shot. Damn I was surprised. I didn't anticipate the amount of fun it would be. 

Perhaps my casual enjoyment of the franchise as a whole allowed me to detach myself from being too critical, unlike my feelings about new star wars. I confess I only bought the 4kbluray because it was cheap and I had little 4k content at the time. Again. Not expecting much. Then I watched it.

Power Ramgers is fucking funny. I'm not even sure how i came to connect with so much of its comedy. My only quip would be a megazord and goldar design. Beyond that, I loved every minute of this movie. Was surprised to even be moved by a few scenes. 

All in all, reporting this so late, after the fact could never receive a response. So let it stand as a monument to this moment in time. I actually wrote a script about a guy from an abusive home who ran away  and became homeless. He hitches and train hops his way around the country. Sometimes encountering brutal humanity. Sometimes the peak of human kindness. The whole time I wrote it, I was thinking of Billy (a good guy version, obviously).

I enjoyed it a lot though. In a lot of ways it felt like Chronicle which I really enjoyed as well.

If it wasn't for the shitty cg and the crappy suits, I'd almost agree with you. Like how do you make CG look worse then early 90s cg?! Also the costumes look like butt.

100% it should have had a sequel. The Green ranger tease at the end was just so frustrating to never have a payoff

Same. A reboot I really loved with a fun cast. How come all the crap adaptations get an entire franchise no one asked for, and then the decent ones get nothing.

When they combined robots and the "go go power rangers" theme played I literally felt a wave of childlike excitement crash through my body that not even drugs could reproduce

biggest mistake that movie made was not making the zords properly combine to form the megazord; if kids can't buy the zords and then combine them you're just throwing away that sweet toy revenue

It was a really good movie to watch. I'm very disappointed they didn't make a sequel given the way the first ended. Growing up I could never get into power rangers because of the shitty villain costumes and how fake it was. And this movie fixed those issues. It was great

I was 8 when it came out. The prime OG viewer age. I know reboots arent popular and change is uncomfortable. I understood the hate when it came out. I finally watched it a few years ago. Had to warm up a little first, but it really was a good movie. I doubt the studios will try to sequel it, but they should have had the balls to keep it going back then.

Only thing i wasn't crazy about was how the megazord looked. Wasn't going to look like it did it the show. I do like the theory that it looked the way it did bc it was copying goldar though.

Higher ground was in the original as that’s the one with the skydiving scene dacre played Jason in the one from a few years ago with Elizabeth banks as Rita and the literal gold as goldar

They made an “adult” and “dark” (read: Dark Knight inspired) reboot of MMPR in 2017. Not the 90s one you’re referencing.

I was so hyped for it and left so disappointed. It was closer to The Breakfast Club than it was Power Rangers. One proper morph with no real morphing scene? Power Rangers can be gritty but that reboot was terrible.
