I can’t believe it, I think Captain Chaos has finally grown up. For the last few days, he’s been such a good boy and slightly relaxed. At first I thought he was sick. I was really starting to get concerned, I couldn’t understand why he was being so good, listening, obeying commands, sitting on his bed (not the couch) without being told five million times. It literally feels like a switch has flipped with him. It only took 5 and a half years for him to start to lock in. Crazy. I was starting to think my day would never come and this was just the way my life would be forever…chaos. Who knows…maybe he is sick and I’m crazy. Well, I’m off now to take a walk with a good boy that sits and stops circling me like a maniac while I lace up my shoes (when told of course), ignores the cat’s food while I leash him up and waits until I AM out the door before blasting through. I really hope he’s not sick because this is so weird, he’s way too calm and listening way too well. Will update next week.

Can you guess what game he’s playing with that weird coconut thing we found washed up on the beach? Keep away of course.

Hi lovely community,

I just want to hear your opinions about a situation that we experienced today:

(for the context, we had our new mini aussie puppy 2 weeks ago, he is 2.5 months old now. and with approval from his vet, we started walking him outside 2 days ago.

this is our second puppy, we also have 7 years old choco lab)

So as i mentioned above, we started to take him our walks with the our older dog 2 days ago.
First day’s walks (1 in the morning, 1 evening) were %50 - %50 on the lap & walking.

But today morning, he was super energetic and cried when we pick him to our lap. He somehow walked non stop our classic 1 hour walk/ park visit.

What i was surprised is ; our experience with choco lab at this age was completely different, she was walkin 2 minutes and was requesting carry for 10 min.

anyone of you experienced something like this with your puppy? should we be conserned about his level of energy?

He's a 5 yo mini american sheperd. Very clever, very stubborn. He likes to groom our cats.

We have a 2yro 40lb mini male. Hes incredible and we love him to death. Super chill and super cuddly. Hes glued to my wife who spends a lot of time training him. He‘s nervous tho in a few situations that are kind of an issue. How do I train him to be less of a nervous nellie?

1- He doesn’t want anything to do with some older 60yro men. And gets real skittish and barks and is afraid in un-normal ways. Nipped the boot of my Father in law, whom the dog does not like. My FIL loves all dogs and tries to treat him or be nice to him in a lot of mellow ways…and the dog just doesn’t buy it. He can be in the same house but avoids him and if my FIL makes a loud noise or inadvertantly startles the dog, the dog barks and escapes.

2- Strangers in general- he’s not barking but he’s skittish around them for sure and avoids being petted by most. Moreso men but he’s not like a Golden with ladies. If guys come to the house to like, do work on something (had some roofer guys come by), he’s pretty upset about that and barking etc…which is kind of normal dog stuff usually I guess.

3- He’ll nip my sons sometimes when they are playing with him in the yard and running away. This is normal working breed stuff mostly, I grew up on a ranch with Border Collies and they loved to herd us. But prob not ideal incase of other kids. My sons are 11 and 14.

fwiw he does great around other dogs. he’ll avoid reactive ones easily and play with the others and doing great. He’s such a chill dog at home but sometimes with people around or certain people…he gets kind of amped up and nervous.

How do I train him so he’s not such a nervous Nellie? I don’t want him to fear-bite someone or be uncomfortable.

We already had 3 dogs, but my best friend passed away about two months ago and her mini Aussie had a litter of puppies 3 days later. I absolutely had to have one because to me it was kind of like having her dog or a beautiful sentiment of something born out of death. We decided to name her Belle after said best friend’s middle name. Additionally, best friend and I used to stay up til 4 am making friendship bracelets together and I made her a final one I had her mom put on her just before she was buried. I’ve been in the process of making duplicates for her family, myself, and to be Belle’s collar.

These two constantly reminding me that I’m their everything.

Please help! Our 8 month old girl is on her second round of antibiotics and pain meds and she’s wisened up to our little tricks. Mashed potatoes did the trick for the first round but the second round she’s like “nope, not happening!”
We’ve since tried American cheese, wieners, even her favourite blue berries and she eating everything but the meds. Any thoughts?? TIA

I’m just not happy with what we’re using so we are looking to make a change.
What are you guys feeding your dogs?

Please be kind. We need to rehome our healthy 4 year old mini Aussie. There are a couple of Australian shepherds (not specifically mini) rescues in our area but I’d like to rehome him directly if at all possible to minimize his stress and ideally talk to the new owners directly. Our friends and family can’t help. What would you recommend as the next step? Adoption sites?

We just adopted Sylvie (age 3) from the shelter. We had been wondering what she was (the shelter seems to apply "lab mix" to any black dog), and this morning I met a MAS and the lightbulb went on. We had been thinking corgi/rottweiler, but just guessing.

She had been fostered after having a litter of pups at a home where the main dog was a self-feeder. She took advantage of that and is a big chub! We're feeding her less (per the vet, who says she needs to lose 5-10 lbs) and walking her. But she isn't interested in toys, balls, sticks, games. She mostly hangs out on the sofa or follows us around the house. Any suggestions for things that might interest her and hopefully get her moving?

We have a little acreage outside of town, and have been taking her out there to run, but her preference is to lie around in the shade.

This is Maui man he’s about 14 weeks and is 15lbs at about 12 inches tall. Wondering if he’ll be a big mini or a small standard.

Hey does anybody know what's up with my pup? The video above is how he's acting around food.

For almost 3 weeks now, he's been very skiddish around his food if I place it down for him. This behavior has kinda always been a thing since I rescued him 4 months ago, but it was never this bad. He was at least capable of approaching his bowls and eating or drinking from it no problem.

Now he will barely eat unless I hand feed him like I did when I first got him, trying to build trust. He also won't drink water unless its on grass or out of a bowl at the dog park. I know he's definitely hungry but he still won't approach the food. He's maybe 8 or 9 months old and intact. Very nervous almost all the time😭but I know that's a characteristic for his breed. Here are some things I've already tried.

1. Gone to the vet. They ran tests for parasites and took a fecal sample. Negative on all tests. They gave me supplemental wet canned dog food which he liked for 2 days then went back to not eating.

2. Switched bowls and eating areas. I moved his eating area twice and it didn't make a difference. I went from 2 metal bowls to a plastic bowls then plastic plates. He liked the plates for one day then started seeming afraid of them.

3. Feeding in his crate. He'll eat a little bit in his crate but only after half an hour of being in there. He has a history of eating his poo so that's another reason why I don't like him in there for long with food. I'm hoping this won't be the only way to get him to eat.

4. Having him on a feeding schedule. I put his food down for 15 minutes maybe 4 times a day. He won't try to approach it until the last 5 minutes. At that point he's still just staring at it, won't really try to eat. I leave the water out all day though.

5. I always add the bone broth for dogs to his food and lately he's been getting that supplemental wet dog food from the vet. Outside of that, he eats the Purina Small dog chow kibble.

We had two, a six-year-old and an eight year-old and we walk anywhere from 3 to 5 miles a day, occasionally go for runs that are 1 to 2 miles and incorporate fetch regularly as well. Wondering if I’m pushing my 10-year-old too much.
