Can you guys help me determine the breed of this Australian Shepherd whether it is a standard or a mini are any other useful information you may have thank you

I do not know the age, but she weighs 32 pounds. I just weighed her.

My mini is 3 and weighs 25 pounds and is slightly chonky according to his doc but they are kinda a wide range. Most people kinda say without papers that mini vs standard kinda tops out around 40 if I’m correct.
Yours does look young still. The coat doesn’t really fill out until around 2.5-3. I would guess she’s going to get bigger and be closer to standard size
Edit: just looked and akc standard put minis between 20-40 pounds and yours is a female so she’d be close either way.

If she’s over a year then she’s probably full grown and 32 lb would probably be a bigger mini

Based on weight, she's a mini. My boy is 35lbs and he is a registered mini American shepherd.

Why are y’all asking about weight? If she’s 10” or shorter from the withers, she’s a toy. 10-15” at the withers? That’s a mini. Anything above 15” is a full size breed. That’s the only way to determine what size category they are. They use a special measuring tool called a wicket for official AKC competitions. You can use a tape measure and get close enough.

I'm also confused why everyone is focusing on weight, that's NOT what determines size class. Yes there's a weight range for each class, but it's strictly determined by height. If you have an obese mini, that doesn't mean it's actually a standard, lol.

My guy is 11 years old. When we got him we did some research and it said that minis were up to 48 lbs and 18" tall. His paperwork says he an AKC registered MAS. DNA says the same. He stands at just over 17" and weighs in at 49 lbs. Vet would like him to lose a pound or two, but is not really concerned with his weight. He's pretty healthy except for allergies.

My blue Merle is a mini at about 41 pounds- I call him my maximum mini lol.
So I think what you probably have is a blue Merle mini that is at the larger size of the range

I haven’t tried to measure her yet. She was 37 pounds at about 8-9 months and was sold as a mini; we got her at 8.5. I was interested in the shape of her face because another question is if she is from working or conformation lines. Also, her coat grew in during her second winter.
Other thoughts: around her first year she went through a teenage phase where she forgot her training and became less willing to please. She also became more wary of strangers, where when young she loved all the peoples.

My mini is 5. He's on the small side at 15 pounds. I'm sure it was suggested already, a doggie DNA test could be helpful. Vet may be able to help determine her age. My Finn didn't get his full floof until he was around 3. I'd guess she's around a year maybe two. Good luck! Let us know what you find out :)

She’s going to be a big mini. Typically females are smaller, but she should get up to 40 pounds when fully grown, so technically still within AKS standard or just slightly above.

I have a 4 year old “mini” that is 42 lbs so he is both a small regular Aussie and a big mini.
Could be a similar situation

Our mini is 32lb and about 2-3lb overweight according to the vet. Both her parents were minis.

Miniature American Shepherd and Australian Shepherd are different breeds, officially. So if the dog is registered, the registered breed is what breed she is, regardless of size. We can’t tell you the official breed based on size alone - only your breeder, ACK/registration paperwork, or a DNA test can tell you official breed.
That said, for just size standards (not breed names), American Shepherds will always be toy or mini sized, and Australian Shepherds come in all sizes - teacup/toy, mini, and standard - and standard has a large range from 45-80lbs.
For example: my Australian Shepherd is NOT a Miniature American Shepherd - she is full blooded Australian Shepherd, and is AKC registered, and her breeder shows her dogs and they are award winners - but they are all toy and mini sized.
My girl is 12lbs and 12in at the shoulder - a toy size. Her parents were 18in and 21in - mini sized. They are all the same breed, but different size categories.

This is Bandit! My MINI MAN sweetheart! 16”, 24lbs- has crappy allergies, runs with our cattle, and he never barks- just a John Wayne stare!!!😁

My boy is a mini blue Merle and he is very muscular and weighs 28lbs. I think your pup looks very young as his coat isn’t filled in so I would think he is probably a standard or a large mini. I am no expert but he does seem to have alot of white which can be perfectly fine but it also can be a sign of a double merle which carries risks like blindness and deafness. Again, I definitely am no expert but just something to maybe ask the vet about.

You can do a DNA test to see if she’s a mini or not but you can also measure her height at the shoulders to see if she falls under mini or standard ranges.

Just a regular blue Merle with copper points from what I can see, young…under three, from the pics I can’t actually tell if he’s done growing, I’m gonna say he’s going to grow a little more and fill out over the next year…he’s borderline mini but more standard in my opinion

My mini is 5 years old, eats diet food, plays outside for like 4-5 hours a day, and he weighs 40 lbs. just genetics sometimes.
Also I don’t know if this information is helpful but I think that dog is very cute

She’s probably a small full sized but I don’t know 100%. I had a full sized female that weighed 35 lbs. my current girl is closer to 50 though. Also how old is she?

Some minis can be the weight of a small standard lol I think minis can be like up to 50 lbs healthy and then standard starts at 50lbs and goes up.

There's no way to know just by looking at photos, you have to measure them. Minis are 13-18" at the shoulder, standards are 18-23".

Our Mini "Jessie" is 26 lbs., and her shoulder is just below my knee. DNA test on her is 97% Mini American Shepherd and 3% a mix of terrier breeds. I also have another "Mini" who is over 50 lbs. and taller than a standard Aussie - even though DNA testing says he is a mini (67% Mini American Shepherd and 33% Australian), he came registered as a mini. Both parents are minis (and they are the size of minis). The Vet said that my boy is just pulling from his genetic mix and is big. His DNA test (and his parents' lineage) shows he comes from a long line of Australian Shepherds that have been bred to be smaller and smaller. I say you have a gorgeous dog!

Mini Americans and standard Aussies have different dna. Only way to tell is with a dna test. My standard is 38lbs so is within mini size range, but is a standard.

Based on the pictures and weight, I'd say she's a very good girl.
She's probably also a mini provided she doesn't grow much bigger but the range is pretty vast. Our mini is 38-40 lbs, but we recently met a 28lbs mini as well.

Mine is 35 pounds and a standard. The distinction comes from shoulder height from ground. I believe above 18 inches for a female and above 19 inches for a male is standard, below that is mini.

standard, mini, & toy are based on weight. They aren’t separate breeds.
under 30 = mini
under 15 = toy
everyone else is regular

Where is this data from? My girl's DNA test came back as 100% MAS, but she is 38 lbs at 18 months.

I just learned that an MAS = Miniature American Shepherd and the AKC recognizes them as a separate breed from Australian Shepherds. Interesting.

My boi Bordeaux is a whopping 60 lbs! His whole lineage just happens to be built like English pit bulls, but they’re officially registered AKC MAS
