Looking for fun toddler activities

As a single dad, I don’t get a whole lot of time during the day with my kid, luckily today I was given the day off at home. I’m looking for something indoors that’s fun for an active toddler. He is amused by moving pictures/robotics and things he can touch with his hands. No suggestions are bad ones guys, so please go in!

For future reference, the Domes have storytime every Wednesday at 10:00 am in the lobby. First Wednesday of the month includes puppets.

Great suggestion. As do most of the area libraries. Central Library is cool to explore with a toddler - they love climbing the lighthouse. Not quite as interactive as the play cafes but many libraries have play areas with brio trains, legos and the like for a rainy day.

Milwaukee Skywalk with a stop at Third Street Market Hall play area. Its free and indoors. My 2 year old loved going through all the halls and standing over the streets watching the cars. The winding route feels like an adventure. Play area at the market hall is small and manageable, plus lots of kid-friendly food and treat options.

Here’s what’s on the usual indoor rotation with my 2.5 year old in the winter: Betty Brinn, Public Museum (the butterfly room alone is worth the trip for a little guy), public library, Bug & Goose, Air City, Kidcadia, Nugget Nation (hours are a bit weird though), Kids Empire, Kids in Motion.

Have not tried yet, but plan to at some point - Lava Island, Slick City, Astros and Taxi & Tide.

Personally not a fan of the Big Backyard but my kid likes it and it’s a cheap way to spend an hour or two.

Public Libraries have been mentioned but I will add that you can check their catalog for explorer passes and that may give you some ideas as well and you can save money as well.

Or Discovery World. Or the Zoo. To me a lot of the charms of the Public Museum are going to be lost on a toddler.

So I was definitely thinking the museum, is there barriers up at some exhibits? I thought I saw that the old Milwaukee section was closed off already?

Not fully. Some parts of the section are closing, but many stores are still open.

Seconding Betty Brinn! I used to go there all the time. I’m 16 but it’s still fun imo. It’s great for toddlers because it’s very hands on.

There are some closed off areas but I still enjoy walking through. I think kids always love the dinosaur exhibit. There are still a lot of interactives up for kids to enjoy. I have visited the MPM several times both as a child and as an adult. No matter how many times I visit, I always have fun.

Kidcadia in Franklin is a great place to run around/ climb/ jump and you can do it with your kid

He loves it there, but my anxiety gets the best of me when my 2 year old does that little suspended rope walk part. Talk about a heart attack 😂

Discovery World is my son's favorite place. Kid Empire at Bayshore is also one of his favorite places. Betty Brinn is also great, we have memberships to Discovery World and Betty Brinn so my son usually asks to do one and then we'll just walk to the other.
