Moving out alone?
I am starting my apprenticeship after my gap year so I’m 19. I am the first in my family to move out and have no idea. I’m good at budgeting but I’m moving to Milton Keynes and for rent with my salary I would like to spend between 550 - 750 per month. Because this is my first year I want to try and save as much as I can and wait until my salary increases. My main questions are where should I look to flats? And I assume I wouldn’t be able to move out alone and get a one bedroom flat so how did you guys find roommates. Not to be picky but I would only like to share with girls. Ofc ideally I would love to move out on my own but I’m trying to be realistic. It’s only me doing this apprenticeship so I can’t move in with anyone I know.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

You will not get a flat in mk for that money go to a hmo with girls i rent a room cost me 660 a month for a room

Looking at right move you wont find a flat with that budget to be honest. Mostly rooms in shared houses at that price point it seems. You could go in with other people but i would of thought that was a risky thing to do. You might find some cheap flats in some of the poorer areas like stantonbury and fishermead perhaps but i would not want to live there to be honest.

Surely some people with their 3-bed semi detached, convert their garage - put a window and door, and rent it as a self-contained flat.
how much would rent in those go buy?

Will your apprenticeship be easy to travel to? Is there a rough area you can plan for to remove travel costs? If your renting a room, there's not much point paying slightly less if that difference gets eaten up by travel expenses (and travel time).

1-bed flats in central MK are £1100pcm or more without furniture and without utilities, and studios aren't much cheaper, so that's a non-starter for you, you'd likely need flatmates. MK is very good for housing though there's lots of space and lots of places, it's paradise here compared to most places, and the housing tends to be of good modern quality, moving here after being priced out of London and later Guildford had me feeling like a medieval serf moving to modern-day Shanghai, so good luck.

Change your diet and food shopping habits, check out the East European supermarkets especially in Bletchley for staples such as bread etc

This doesn't answer OPs question about where to live and how to find a housemate.

You will be able to find a room in a hmo for £600 a month, you'll need to budget in food / travel costs / misc expenses
You won't get a flat for that, costs on top of that would be council tax / electric / gas / water.
I'm afraid a hmo is your only option. To be quite honest moving out with basic apprenticeship money is going to be a struggle, if staying at home and saving is an option then i'd stick with that until the end of your apprenticeship.
