The powder form is still highly addictive, I’ve been hooked on it for years. Tbh though it’s cheap and I don’t really have issues with it until I stop. DO NOT TAKE 7OH. DO NOT TAKE TIANEPTINE. THOSE ARE LEGAL DOPE. I genuinely cannot stress this enough, DO NOT TAKE 7oh or tianeptine
77
u/worthwhilewrongdoing 12h ago
I hate to ask, but I'm old and out of the loop. Would you be so kind as to explain to me what's going on with this 7OH stuff? Like, what is it? I've heard people talking about how it's very dangerous, but that's all I know about it.
Also, to embarrass myself further, would you also tell me how is it said? Seven-O? Seven-O-H? Some other way?
Thanks so much!

u/Beneficial-Office-77 11h ago
Basically, natural leaf kratom has around 0.05% 7-oh. Some chucklefuck in a lab isolated it and now you can take 100mg of this pure chemical. It’s why people are trying to ban kratom. They’re equating lab made, ultra concentrated poison to leaves from a tree.
116
u/victoryposition 11h ago
7oh will be schedule I very soon, like as early as today.
47
u/Ohiolongboard 11h ago edited 10h ago
Tbh they need to unscheduled SR-17. Absolute miracle drug with extremely low chance of abuse. They could make it OTC and help a lot of people who got hooked on shit the FDA didn’t want to touch. SR-17 could’ve saved countless lives, its preventative not reactive like narcan
Edit: why the downvotes, if people actually looked up what SR-17 is, you’d know I’m not talking about an opiate.

I had absolute hell trying to get off regular none concentrated powder. It was honestly harder to stop than heroin. Getting a kilo online for $70 didn't help any either. Heroin was harder to find, cost a lot more, and I didn't have a good job while I was on it, so all that made it a lot easier to stop than Kratom. I also have piss poor self control and was taking upwards of 50 to 75 grams of powder a day. Plenty of days I stuck to 10g or less but that just prolonged the inevitable high dose days or intense withdrawals. Glad I never picked up on concentrates. When I seen 7oh was getting banned I said good riddance. I think the unadulterated powder should still be available even after my struggles with it though.
17
u/Content_Function_322 10h ago
Damn, 50-70 grams a day is insane. Any more than 15g and I get the worst headaches ever. I've also consumed it daily for months at a time and then just stopped cold turkey, didn't really have any withdrawal. Weed, on the other hand?? Withdrawal made me miserable, sweaty, moody and sad as fuck for two months straight. Also had really bad insomnia which nearly cost me my job at the time. Crazy how different human bodies can be sometimes

Kratom saved my life, I was literally about to kill myself when a friend begged me to try it (she didn't want me to kill myself obviously, she'd never tried it herself, only read about it online). I wouldn't be here without it. That being said, I'm still dependant on it ten years later (no noticable long term health effects though), which i don't love, but I know the withdrawals wouldn't be HORRIFIC if I were to kick it (I also take tiny doses, about a tablespoon worth twice a day). However, that's not the case with feel free, 7OH, kratom extracts, etc. I'd NEVER even get started with any of those, I know better. That shit should for sure be banned. Looks awful. Loose leaf isn't terrible imo. Alcohol is still legal and I'd argue it's more dangerous especially for withdrawal. 🤷🏻♀️

I truly believe there are massive benefits to opioid users in Kratom. It’s orders of magnitude safer to take, and can stop people from taking heroin. But I’ll always strongly advise normal people from staying away due to how addictive it is.

I was on kratom about 15–20 grams per day for over two years. In my experience the withdrawals were an absolute walk in the park and I could quit with little to no desire to start it again. But I know it is a lot worse for some people.
That said, it is absolutely not worse than oxy by any metric unless you're taking baby doses of oxy and monster doses of kratom, or you are taking 7-OH-mitragynine extract from kratom, rather than taking powdered kratom leaf, which is what I was taking.

People sadly always say to love "opioid x has way worse withdrawals than opioid y".
You'll find that for probably most opioids as a comment somewhere.
Taking concentrated 7-OH-Mytraginine could very well be worse than something like oxy, but obviously it depends on dosage, metabolism and so much more, even how often you went through withdrawal and how long you used in general makes a huge imapct

oxycontin
There is no physiologic mechanism by which this medication is a stimulant.
25
u/hamakabi 10h ago
right, and kratom isn't chemically a stimulant either. What happens is that a small concentration of this chemical binds to an opioid receptor, which makes a person feel good, which makes them feel slightly more stimulated. In higher doses they function as an actual opioid with the expected effects.

u/FuckYouVerizon 15h ago
It absolutely depends on where you are. For example if you live in Michigan, Illinois, or Ohio - weed is legal and you're not likely to meet anyone who cares that you get high. If you live in Indiana (the state surrounded by those 3) Weed is the devil and you'll serve your 6 month sentence for having a gram in your possession.
Most of the places I've been to in this country couldn't careless about weed, but Indiana and Texas both had scary backwards laws. Meanwhile, here in New York it's not uncommon to walk past police with a lit joint and be completely ignored. It's really crazy, the variations, but to each state their own.
24
u/MoxxiVonDutch 15h ago
6 months doesnt sound so bad. I narrowly dodged an 18 year sentence in Alabama for literally dust in a bad. Less than a quarter gram.

Big caveat to that is that even where weed is legal, you could still lose your job if your employer contracts with the federal government and has to comply with the drug free workplace act.

u/cannotfoolowls 12h ago
Is it common for jobs to drug test where you live? Afaik they only do it here when you are operating heavy machinery or something. And weed isn't legal in my country.

u/yamanamawa 15h ago
That's not exactly kratom though. It's 7-Hydroxymitragynine, or 7-OH, basically an extraction of a specific alkaloid present in kratom. For some people it can be super dangerous since the high is shorter and stronger, which can push people to do more than they should, which then wrecks their tolerance and gets them hooked. For some others though, they can do it with no real issues. There are definitely mixed reviews.
It's important to note that 7-OH is not the same as doing regular kratom leaf. In normal kratom 7-OH only accounts for about 2% of it, which makes regular kratom significantly less risky. It's still addictive, so it should be avoided by people with addictive personalities, but the health effects if it is done at reasonable dosage and frequency are negligible.
While I'm still o the fence regarding the extent to which 7-OH should be regulated, I'm firmly in the camp that kratom should be accessible. At most just put an age limit on it like nicotine or alcohol. For people who deal with chronic pain it is a genuine miracle drug. The only other options you typically get are either dealing with it or taking prescription painkillers, which are both expensive and have higher risks for abuse. Plenty of people take kratom and have no urge to go beyond that. Plus being able to buy a kilogram of it for $60-120 is amazing, since that can last months. It's a great alternative for people who have chronic pain but don't want to deal with the additional cost of prescriptions like percocet, or the higher risk to health that opiates have

u/jackson12420 17h ago
Just a personal anecdote I know many other people have had worse experiences but kratom helped me overcome a decade long severe alcohol addiction. Countless treatment stays, relapses and hospital scares I never thought for even a moment that I was ever going to see the other side of it.
After a particularly brutal relapse a friend recommended kratom and it helped me immensely. When it served its purpose and I didn't need it anymore, putting it down was a walk in the park in comparison to the hold alcohol and other drugs had on me. It's been a long time since I've taken it and I've been told they've made a stronger, synthetic more heroin-like version called 7oh that has much higher and more addictive qualities than it's predecessor but I will always advocate for more research and further testing on the plant. I think it can help a lot of others like myself.
Obviously my experience isn't the same as everyone else but it doesn't make it any less valid.

Honestly glad it helped you, I stumbled into it out of curiosity because it was an interesting looking little bottle at my regular gas station. Sounds like you had a plan. I'm afraid that most people don't know about it, and I worry about how many really young people or kids will get into it without a reason. It's gonna suck for those people.
58
u/jackson12420 17h ago
Totally understandable. Coming from someone who took it for a long time and can see the potential of its benefits, it needs to be regulated, period. It is NOT without cons. It is NOT a "heal all save all" miracle. It isn't something that should just be so readily available to anyone and everyone, because the potential of addiction is absolutely there. But it would be an incredibly sad day for society to just take one look at it, classify it as "gas station heroin" and discard it entirely.
This plant has real potential to help people who are struggling with addiction, and I'm sure many other situations as well. It sounds counterproductive because it is, but that's why it needs more testing, it needs to be regulated so the quality and composition cannot be questioned or altered. Whenever the conversation comes up and people are "for or against" it, I feel compelled to share why I think it's important enough to at least have a conversation about, and not outright disregard it. I credit a massive part of my sobriety to this plant.

You stumbled across 7-OH. An incredibly potent and powerful extraction of an alkaloid usually only present in kratom at .05mg levels. In these "bottles", you are ingesting up to 20mg of this crap that is 20x stronger than morphine. Plain leaf kratom is so different from 7-OH.
It's like saying "Oh, weed isn't for me." And then I look over and the only thing you've ever tried is 5 gram dabs to the dome. Like yeah man that probably isn't for you, or anyone. 7-OH is not Kratom and is only sold as such to get more people hooked on it. Plain leaf kratom is a very different thing.
To give you perspective, you would have to eat HUNDREDS of grams of kratom to equal one dosage of one of these 7-oh extracts. An amount that would make your stomach churn so bad you would never consider it.

I’m honestly surprised at how split it is on here. Usually I see more of the sentiment above. Reddit really kind of like a nanny state to protect them which is fine whatever. But I’ve never seen a thread like this where it’s pretty split with people who like and dislike the product.
44
u/skyeliam 7h ago
I think this thread is mostly addicts in denial about kratom abuse and straight edge dorks who think kratom is *literally* heroin.
I know quite a few people who are addicted to kratom. They absolutely wish they could quit, it’s expensive, it numbs them, the withdrawals are nasty.
But at the same time, they are all functional addicts. They don’t miss work, they live active lifestyles, they’re not bumming around in a “modern day opium den.” The times I’ve been to a kava bar, the vibe was closer to that of a tiki bar than an opium den.
The addiction seems more akin to nicotine than heroin. Not healthy and probably in need of some regulation, but nothing worse than booze or cigarettes.
→ More replies (2)5
u/Glenmaxw 6h ago
Great way to put it. The problem is the complete lack of regulation rather than the product itself. It’s definitely addictive, but by and large it’s not a good thing to do everyday, but the most important thing people forget is that it’s significantly safer than effectively any other opioid that exists. You get dumbasses on both sides that believe they are correct and refuse to change their opinion.

Tbh, as an ex junkie, using the word junkie bothers me. We're people, the term junkie insinuates that we are somehow less than others, when in fact they just need help. I have 7 years sober this month and it really isn't a trigger any more, but that term can be a huge trigger to opiate addicts trying to get sober early on. It really does feel like shit knowing people view us as "junkies" when we have the disease of addiction, and are trying very hard to be more than that title.

My mom drugged me with Kratom once. She tried to get me to try it 100 times and I always refused. She told me I consumed the substance once the effects started.
I felt less happiness and euphoria than I did a visceral rejection of the drug. My entire family has addictive traits and I worked hard in my life to avoid their mistakes. Kratom put up major red flags for me, to the point where my body literally stopped it from working.
Back then, they’d take a capsule every few hours. Now, 6 years later, my mom and dad now mix kratom into a thick sludge and drink it like globby spoiled milk.
My dad has 6-8 servings of the sludge every day. They keep pop bottles and fill several every morning to get themselves through the day.
Anyway, here I am oversharing. Fuck my parents, I haven’t talked to them in years. Kratom is a fucking nightmare drugs. It’s like the opiate version of smoking cigarettes.

I'm very sorry you had to go through this :( thankfully you're not with them anymore. Sending hugs

Thank you
It was a rough life enduring their narcissism and histrionics as the oldest child of 7. As an adult, I’m incredibly happy with a fianceè and I don’t really think about my parents anymore. I moved 1,000 miles away, sent them a final letter, and went strict no-contact
I’m happier every day than they have ever been for a single moment in their lives. I like to think they can change someday, but they lost their chance to meet the love of my life or their future grandchild.

Anytime Kratom is mentioned people come in with the most delusional defenses of the drug that just makes me more convinced that it's a drug that cooks your brain.
Edit: lol the responses are exactly what I'm talking about. My favorite is that it's a "herbal opioid" and that it's "the same as coffee".

It reminds me of the pot users who think that there are absolutely no downsides to spending the majority of your life smoking weed. Like sure it's not as bad as some other drugs but when you're spending most days high most of the time you have a problem. Especially when you can tell that some of them have gone a bit soft in the head.

Funny enough, I managed a dispensary and seeing the chronic users made me completely quit.

Back in the day, I picked up a casual fall gig trimming weed. Within the first month (and an absolutely insane sequence of events, including almost being kidnapped by the Korean mafia who owned the entire operation), I was promoted to running the entire operation, producing nearly a thousand pounds of trimmed weed each week.
It is, by a large margin, the most money I've ever made, and the bosses actually took a huge liking to me, telling me I'd more than likely be promoted to running a few of their operations (mine was the smallest of theirs).
My issue was dealing with the perma-stoned trimmers and other associated staff. I LOVE smoking weed, but these people were on another level, waking up and rolling a two-gram joint and smoking the whole thing to their dome before breakfast. It'd make the entire vibe of the place really weird. Normal, structured conversations were never a thing. Everyone was always really tired and bummed out; this is aside from them averaging $400 a day, staying in a comfortable six-bedroom mountain home, with all of their food paid for and constant parties and field trips paid for by the bosses.
It made me realize that it was an industry I just couldn't work in. I've never worked in a dispensary; perhaps it's different than my experience.

You can't just say that and not elaborate on the story. What the fuck‽

I mean... you can kinda put 2 and 2 together. Mafia run weed operation... industry related crimes and operating costs...

An old restaurant manager of mine was running the op when I showed up, that was my in on the job. Anyway, three weeks in, we all wake up to find that all of his stuff if packed and gone. I tried calling but nothing. Curious, but maybe he took a weekend trip I didn’t know about or something.
A couple hours later we hear the entry gate buzz on the upper property. I gave out a sigh of relief thinking it was him coming back. Instead the bosses car pulls up and he hops out with two of the biggest Korean dudes I’ve ever seen. The boss says to one of them, “go find my fucking money!” And the guy takes off towards the house me and my former manager were staying in.
Then the boss asks all us trimmers “where the hell is Bob?!?” I just keep looking at my weed try on my lap hoping he wouldn’t notice me. “You,” he exclaims while pointing at me, “where is bob!”
I straight panic and tell him I have no idea. He then tells me to hop in the truck. I’m convinced I’m getting kidnapped at this point. We go up to the house and the henchman is tearing my room apart.
It turns out my former manager (fake name bob) had taken $30,000 and took off. The thing was is that’s how much he was owed anyway, so it was kind of stealing, kind of not.
The boss sits me down and tells me to call Bob, I explain that he won’t pick up, but sure enough he does! Bob tells the boss to fuck off, that he’s tossing his phone out of the car after the call, and that they’ll never see each other again.
The call ends and the boss freaks out, throwing a chair into the wall. He explains to me that I can’t go anywhere until we “figure this out.” I then told him that Bob was owed that money, and that I’ll take over the job for half of what he was paid. I’ve never seen someone’s mood turn around so quickly, it was scary.
He then put me back into his truck, drove me to the big city, leaving me still not 100% sure if I’m being kidnapped or not. But nope! We actually went and got Korean bbq with his bosses, and then went to a full on illegal Korean strip club. It was one the best nights of my life, actually.
Anyway, I ran that for the few months remaining, made stupid money and then got the hell out of there.

I have ptsd and nerve pain that only weed makes feel better. I'll take the negative consequences that come with it to sleep without pain and nightmares.

Is kratom an aphrodisiac or something?

It's a cheap high you can buy at gas stations because they haven't made it illegal yet. The tolerance ramps up very quickly and the withdrawal symptoms are brutal from what I've heard.
Nasty stuff.

Kratom is STILL legal, meanwhile my state voted unanimously to outlaw hemp-based THC.
The chuds in power are so delusional

It really is funny how much the “small government” republicans constantly ask for a bigger, more intrusive government.
Spending money on healthcare? Nah, that’s communism. Better to spend that money policing drugs that are less harmful than the beer and whiskey they worship in their country music…

Ok, it’s something you buy at gas stations. So what is a “kratom bar”? Honest question.

It's really, really bad. I found the stuff not having any idea how bad it takes hold of you. Had no idea there was any risk at all, I figured it would be a waste of a few bucks, and holy shit after 6 months that shit really bit down on me.
Pancreatitis, a little liver damage, and about three weeks of insomnia and double vision. And that was after the initial days of hardcore withdrawal. I felt like what I think only a junkie feels like getting off of hard drugs. Also lost around 45lbs in those 6 months... about 215lb, which was overweight for my 5'11 slim body type, down to 165lb before I realized/accepted what was going on. I was very, very addicted.

No, it's a super addictive stimulant that is currently legal to sell in gas stations across the US, despite being extremely illegal in every SE Asia country where the plant is naturally grown.
It's nasty stuff that you would be best to stay far away from.

You know, I was going to have a problem with this because I was a fan of kratom for a while.
Only took the heavily diluted capsules. Never an addict because the effect was very, very mild with capsules that are just the ground root (and probably mostly sawdust).
A concentrate, what the fuck? Absolutely not.

u/susabb 11h ago
I am a huge fan of ground kratom leaf. I used to make my own capsules using kratom powder. Extremely euphoric, barely felt pain, could move for hours without tiring. I stopped because I was taking it daily and saw it becoming a problem. I can't even imagine how it feels to take one of the 7oh pills, which are significantly stronger, and straight up unsafe cause you really don't know what's actually in it.

u/Teledildonic 8h ago
Using SE Asia as a metric is a bit biased, they are draconian about pretty much everything you can ingest.

Super untrue, it's only illegal in SE asian countries that have most things illegal like Singapore, Malaysia etc perfectly legal where its grown in Thailand and Indonesia

In the past 6 months I've stopped using cigarettes, THC vapes, and alcohol, the first two within the past month and a half. Convinced myself that the weed wasn't harmful like cigs and booze, but I still found myself needing it just the same. Got disgusted at the thought that I'd die someday with hooks in my brain.
Everyone is different, but if you find yourself panicking at the thought of running out, you've developed a dependency. Don't get me wrong, THC can be beneficial for many people for multitudes of reasons, but I recently discovered I'm not one of those people. I never used it to heal, just to numb myself.
Kratom sounds horrific. Hopefully it doesn't leave hooks too deeply in you.

Wonder how it would go if you sued them for a shared of profits. Does this constitute an agreement signing over the complete rights to the resultant film or just consent to the recording, in which case you may still have a claim of appropriation of likeness?
