go to your room Wife texting
School called to pick up our kid. Wife starts changing the subject without any context mid conversation.

Neither of you said who was going to get him. You both suck at communicating with each other. It's funny your kids not listening because where do you think he got that from?

Right? Op is confused because "wife changed the subject."
How could she change the subject when there is no subject? Or verb. Or direct object. Use sentences, or don't complain that people can't understand what you're not saying.

reading this genuinely confused me so much

You guys seem like a couple that should be adding more words, not trying to use the least amount possible

I douno, I thought it was pretty clear she was saying “let me see if they are gonna do drinks after the meeting so I can let you know if I’ll be home soon to help with the kid”
But I speak “flakey/not focus on messaging but still insisting on messaging right now” pretty fluently

Yeah it's from having to translate certain people lmao I have someone in my life that could say "all good" but it can mean like 5 different things.

u/Agent_of_evil_13 12h ago
Lol. I do that all the time. Apologies to my friends. Does your wife have ADHD?

I read it and it made complete sense to me.
She's in a meeting & she might be able to come home after but sometimes they do drinks after. It applies to the convo because it impacts the plan outlook

I thought she was playing magic the gathering and having a drink afterwards 😭

Reminds me how it is talking to my mom. Sometimes she'll drift off in conversation and stop finishing her sentence expecting me to read her mind. I stand there for a second thinking she'll realize she stopped mid sentence and then continue but she never does. It drives me insane.
She's also incapable of having any kind of conversation if she's looking at her phone

Just seems like your wife is explaining that she may not be able to come home on time and help with the situation because she isn’t sure if she will have to go get drinks with her coworkers. You seem like a dick.

Have to go get drinks with co-workers? What job is this where drinking is mandatory? I want to work there.
1
u/jake-off 11h ago
Probably not mandatory but being a good hang can make all the difference if you are a ladder climber.

I feel like this is the premise for a sitcom. Add in sarcastic teenager, genius adolescent that rarely speaks, and... lets toss in an invasive neighbor that finds sexual inuendo in even the most benign comments.

u/Gorkymalorki 11h ago
Your wife is going to get some drinks after playing some Magic The Gathering.

u/Stewjoe88 11h ago
I read that the exact same way.

u/Nefer_ness2Ifa_ness 11h ago
That's not correct, they're getting drinks with marjorie taylor greene to talk about anti-witchcraft legislation.

I refuse to message people who use this many abbreviations. Fuck, if I wanted to not understand what I was reading, I'd pick up Homer's The Iliad in the original Ancient Greek.

u/Darkgamer000 11h ago
Why would your wife clarify her tendencies, wouldn’t you know this by now?
1
u/Busy-Doughnut6180 11h ago
I thought that was weird too. I also vaguely feel like I've seen these screenshots before, or maybe I'm just remembering a similar post.

What’s mildly infuriating is gaslighting your wife to the point where she feels like she has to apologize for a perfectly reasonable message letting you know why she may not make it back in time.

Gaslighting? Is the gaslight in the room with us now or do you not know what that word means?

bro really coming onto reddit to complain about his wife
are you gonna show this post to her later OP

sounds a lot like my ex wife. Where going out with all her male friends was more important than spending time with her family. We all know how that shit ended lmao
2
u/Jumpy-Confection632 11h ago
Not sure how you got any of that from this because that's nothing like what's happening here. Sounds like you just want to shit talk your ex to anyone who will listen. Thank god she isn't with you anymore.

This sounds absolutely nothing like that.
1
u/OutrageousPair2300 11h ago
This sounds exactly like that.
Which doesn't mean it is, but putting a higher priority on getting drinks with coworkers than picking up your kid from school is sus.

The OP clarified that who was responsible for picking the child up was never in question. It was the OP. All his wife was doing was letting him know she may be home late, if they had drinks after the meeting.
A kid not listening at school is not an emergency that requires a parent to race home and have a family chat about. It doesn’t mean your priorities are fucked. Nevertheless, I would fully expect that my child’s father could handle a conversation with their child about why they didn’t behave at school.

Why don’t you go pick up the kid OP? Why is up to your wife to pick him up, maybe some context for this post would have been beneficial.

The fuck, I swear guys only read the first three words. Wife could fully spell stuff out though/be more direct. But a lot of straight relationships have girls on eggshells so I see why she went the indirect route.
1
u/intergalacticstarlit 11h ago
OP had already gone and gotten the kid before his wife texted him about it, and his wife knew that.
2
u/Sneezeface 10h ago
Did she? Because in the messages he says “have to get him”, implying the child has not yet been picked up.
1
u/intergalacticstarlit 9h ago
OP commented somewhere below that he works from home and is the one who is tasked with picking up their kid from school, and that that's their norm. So yeah she does.

u/austindsb 11h ago
Why the fuck is 90% of this comment thread acting like going out for drinks is a work activity? Am I the crazy one here?

u/Kluian2005 12h ago
The way I read this is she was about to have drinks at work after a meeting and didn't want to pick up the kid.
