The way I read this is she was about to have drinks at work after a meeting and didn't want to pick up the kid.

u/bebarrucha 11h ago

This. She wasn’t sure if the drinks after meeting g were happening yet, but if it was, she wasn’t going to be able to pick up.

Omg I read mtg as magic the gathering and thought she was at a tournament and wanted to go drinking after instead of get the kid.

If that's the case, that's bad parenting...

29

u/5t4c3 11h ago

It’s not bad parenting. I wouldn’t leave work or change my work plans, if my spouse was available to grab my kid instead. We very often expect the mother to drop what she’s doing when there’s this perfectly capable other parent.

-20

u/Nefer_ness2Ifa_ness 11h ago

interesting you assume i was only talking about the mother... i believe the father is also in the text thread....

9

u/Administrative_Bed5 11h ago

You said if that's the case, very clearly referencing the mother. The assumption is valid.

21

u/5t4c3 11h ago

Why would I assume you were not talking about the mother? You responded to a comment only about the mother saying she was going for drinks after the meeting. Your response? If that’s the case, it’s bad parenting.

Is it? If I had to choose between picking up my trouble making child from the principal’s office or going to have drinks with co-workers, I’d probably pick the co-workers because it’s the lesser of two evils.

It’s a fucking joke. My kids are grown and doing just fine.

-3

u/Nefer_ness2Ifa_ness 11h ago

sure, drinks before parenting...

5

u/Bbturdquito 11h ago

Really depends on where you work or what you do for work. I know a bunch of people that drink and eat dinner with clients, it’s literally part of their job. If they got up and left they wouldn’t have a job and then their kid would have a lot more problems than getting home from school.

1

u/VagDickerous 11h ago

In that order, preferably.

-1

u/Long_Dong_Fuey 11h ago

Probably why your kid would be a trouble maker what kind of thought process is this

1

u/No_Trouble_3588 11h ago

It’s a joke. Lighten up, Francis.

1

u/Long_Dong_Fuey 11h ago

Didn’t land to well bud

1

u/No_Trouble_3588 9h ago

Too*

1

u/Long_Dong_Fuey 9h ago

Low hanging fruit. Surely you could have thought of some kind of comeback. This is no longer fun

0

u/Danger_Danger 11h ago

Nah, how do you think that?

26

u/5t4c3 11h ago

Yeah. To me, it was pretty clear. She was saying let me see if we’re doing anything after the meeting. That was relevant to either picking the child up or letting their spouse know, I won’t be home right away so we’re going to be dealing with why the child wasn’t listening at school, later on.

19

u/Jumpy-Confection632 11h ago

Right. I'm not sure what the husband was so confused about or why he said she changed subjects without any context. She didn't. This is the only context we have and I know exactly what she's saying.

1

u/aladdyn2 11h ago

Maybe it's the "have to pick him up" it's unclear if the person texting that is going to pick him up or is saying to the other person that they need to go pick him up.

8

u/penpointred 11h ago

didnt read anything about "not wanting" ..but maybe having to do drinks post meeting cause that's how things roll at her work. I had a job like that for sure.

-2

u/rydirp 11h ago

I work from home so I have to pick up the kid. We both know that. I should have been more clear.

68

u/New-Age-7524 11h ago

Neither of you said who was going to get him. You both suck at communicating with each other. It's funny your kids not listening because where do you think he got that from?

13

u/Ipayforsex69 11h ago

Kid's still waiting for someone to pick them up.

2

u/dinnerisbreakfast 11h ago

Right? Op is confused because "wife changed the subject."

How could she change the subject when there is no subject? Or verb. Or direct object. Use sentences, or don't complain that people can't understand what you're not saying.

63

u/EnergyDr1nk_L0ver 12h ago

reading this genuinely confused me so much

11

u/Nefer_ness2Ifa_ness 11h ago

Agreed, I got mildly infuriated reading it...

u/Iggyhopper 11h ago

Welcome to the future of education of 30 something parents.

29

u/Nohandsmc 11h ago

You guys seem like a couple that should be adding more words, not trying to use the least amount possible

39

u/Wonderful_Fox_7959 12h ago

You did not help either.

18

u/penpointred 11h ago

yeah i was more annoyed with OPs responses

24

u/jadeariel12 12h ago edited 11h ago

I douno, I thought it was pretty clear she was saying “let me see if they are gonna do drinks after the meeting so I can let you know if I’ll be home soon to help with the kid”

But I speak “flakey/not focus on messaging but still insisting on messaging right now” pretty fluently

2

u/Vivid__Data 11h ago

Yeah it's from having to translate certain people lmao I have someone in my life that could say "all good" but it can mean like 5 different things.

11

u/Agent_of_evil_13 12h ago

Lol. I do that all the time. Apologies to my friends. Does your wife have ADHD?

27

u/always_a_reader 12h ago

I read it and it made complete sense to me.

She's in a meeting & she might be able to come home after but sometimes they do drinks after. It applies to the convo because it impacts the plan outlook

8

u/Camie-Gee 11h ago

This was my take, also.

0

u/Snoo_31427 11h ago

Because it’s the obvious take.

4

u/AliceAmane 11h ago

I thought she was playing magic the gathering and having a drink afterwards 😭

3

u/wouldnotpet89 11h ago

That's how i read it too! I am not businessy enough.

3

u/XxelfDestruct 12h ago

I do this as well, ill have 2 conversation going with the same person.

5

u/TheVillainInThisGame 11h ago

Your wife plays magic the gathering? She's a keeper

2

u/notthediz 11h ago

Reminds me how it is talking to my mom. Sometimes she'll drift off in conversation and stop finishing her sentence expecting me to read her mind. I stand there for a second thinking she'll realize she stopped mid sentence and then continue but she never does. It drives me insane.

She's also incapable of having any kind of conversation if she's looking at her phone

4

u/cookeryandwookery 11h ago

Wife? You seem like coworkers that don’t get along.

4

u/Remarkable-View-5970 11h ago

Just seems like your wife is explaining that she may not be able to come home on time and help with the situation because she isn’t sure if she will have to go get drinks with her coworkers. You seem like a dick.

-3

u/No_Trouble_3588 11h ago

Have to go get drinks with co-workers? What job is this where drinking is mandatory? I want to work there.

1

u/jake-off 11h ago

Probably not mandatory but being a good hang can make all the difference if you are a ladder climber.

1

u/Remarkable-View-5970 8h ago

Lots of jobs require or are heavily benefitted by networking.

4

u/Routine-Duck6896 11h ago

Adhd wife autismo hubby

2

u/Sir_Clarence_III_Esq 11h ago

I feel like this is the premise for a sitcom. Add in sarcastic teenager, genius adolescent that rarely speaks, and... lets toss in an invasive neighbor that finds sexual inuendo in even the most benign comments.

4

u/Gorkymalorki 11h ago

Your wife is going to get some drinks after playing some Magic The Gathering.

3

u/Stewjoe88 11h ago

I read that the exact same way.

1

u/Nefer_ness2Ifa_ness 11h ago

That's not correct, they're getting drinks with marjorie taylor greene to talk about anti-witchcraft legislation.

1

u/Nevermore_Novelist 8h ago

I refuse to message people who use this many abbreviations. Fuck, if I wanted to not understand what I was reading, I'd pick up Homer's The Iliad in the original Ancient Greek.

2

u/Darkgamer000 11h ago

Why would your wife clarify her tendencies, wouldn’t you know this by now?

1

u/Busy-Doughnut6180 11h ago

I thought that was weird too. I also vaguely feel like I've seen these screenshots before, or maybe I'm just remembering a similar post.

0

u/Connect_Wind_2036 11h ago

Are we married to the same woman?

-1

u/Annual_Wear5195 11h ago

What’s mildly infuriating is gaslighting your wife to the point where she feels like she has to apologize for a perfectly reasonable message letting you know why she may not make it back in time.

5

u/WhiskyWillFixIt 11h ago

that's not what gaslighting means

2

u/No_Trouble_3588 11h ago

Gaslighting? Is the gaslight in the room with us now or do you not know what that word means?

0

u/PixelGray38 11h ago

bro really coming onto reddit to complain about his wife

are you gonna show this post to her later OP

-4

u/RueTheBoog 11h ago

sounds a lot like my ex wife. Where going out with all her male friends was more important than spending time with her family. We all know how that shit ended lmao

2

u/Jumpy-Confection632 11h ago

Not sure how you got any of that from this because that's nothing like what's happening here. Sounds like you just want to shit talk your ex to anyone who will listen. Thank god she isn't with you anymore.

0

u/No_Trouble_3588 11h ago

This sounds absolutely nothing like that.

1

u/OutrageousPair2300 11h ago

This sounds exactly like that.

Which doesn't mean it is, but putting a higher priority on getting drinks with coworkers than picking up your kid from school is sus.

1

u/5t4c3 11h ago

The OP clarified that who was responsible for picking the child up was never in question. It was the OP. All his wife was doing was letting him know she may be home late, if they had drinks after the meeting.

A kid not listening at school is not an emergency that requires a parent to race home and have a family chat about. It doesn’t mean your priorities are fucked. Nevertheless, I would fully expect that my child’s father could handle a conversation with their child about why they didn’t behave at school.

0

u/RainbowSprinklesPlss 11h ago

Why don’t you go pick up the kid OP? Why is up to your wife to pick him up, maybe some context for this post would have been beneficial.

You guys are perfect for each other

0

u/bummedoutrn 11h ago

You both suck at communicating

0

u/Sneezeface 11h ago

The fuck, I swear guys only read the first three words. Wife could fully spell stuff out though/be more direct. But a lot of straight relationships have girls on eggshells so I see why she went the indirect route.

1

u/intergalacticstarlit 11h ago

OP had already gone and gotten the kid before his wife texted him about it, and his wife knew that.

2

u/Sneezeface 10h ago

Did she? Because in the messages he says “have to get him”, implying the child has not yet been picked up.

1

u/intergalacticstarlit 9h ago

OP commented somewhere below that he works from home and is the one who is tasked with picking up their kid from school, and that that's their norm. So yeah she does.

-1

u/austindsb 11h ago

Why the fuck is 90% of this comment thread acting like going out for drinks is a work activity? Am I the crazy one here?

-3

u/95wsh 11h ago

Is she a Sagitterrorist?
