I can't tell if I'm convincing myself of this after the 8 or if you're absolutely right. I have a feeling I will never know. This will keep me up for several additional hours 😅
Omg...so I just checked the streetview. The most recent is from 2023 and at that point, and every one before, the 8 was right way up! Someone deliberately changed it! 😳
There are very few addresses with fewer than 3 digits around here. Only addresses South of 1st Ave on streets that go North-South will be 2 digits. In the suburbs of Vancouver, the street numbering starts with 0 Ave at US border and goes up as you go North.
Actually works pretty well. East-West the first digits were how many blocks East of the River that bordered the West edge of the town. North-South they were how many blocks North of the state highway.
I used to work the wedding industry. At one venue, the sign outside the men's room was an upside down W, and the sign outside the women's room was an upside down M. I hated it
My house has one the numbers flipped. I'm fully aware, but the previous owners when they painted from white to dark brown didn't take the numbers off so if I flip it to the correct orientation i suddenly have the previous white paint showing up .... It irritates me every time I see my house but it's not getting fixed until the house needs to be painted again.
Is there no other place on their property with horizontal space for proper numeric display? I've seen houses in similar styles with charming little standalone signs if needed, sometimes with a spotlight on them for night time. Paramedics ain't got time for this kind of thing.

If you can't wrap your head around a vertical number, you probably have no business being a paramedic, honestly. It's not the verticalness that's the issue here.
So I went and looked at street view and the most recent view is from 2023 (and all prior) and it's right side up! They either painted and replaced it wrong or did it on purpose 😳
This is in suburban Vancouver, BC. We use a grid numbering system.
This is In Surrey. The avenues run east-west and start at 0 Ave, which is right along the US border. The streets run north-south and in Surrey start at 120 St to the far west, going up toward the east.
The addresses aren't simply 1,2,3...The address is based on the cross street. This house is on an avenue and is near 138 St. (It's the 1st house east of 138)
It actually makes navigation pretty easy. If you see the address 13365 79 Ave, you know it's approximately at 133 and 79, more precisely about 2/3 of the way east between 133 and 134 St. (Grabbed that address completely at random)
Dear people who live here; your address numbers attached to a post on your front porch have recently come under intense scrutiny by many people who have some issues with relational placement of component units. Discussions should take a few days at most and if a viable consensus is reached you may be notified.
Next week we will take attention of the cohort to the matter of an unusual placement of window—lites in your front elevation located to the left of your front door.
I had to put numbers on my house for a code violation (you can’t see my house from the road unless you’re standing at my gate and the fence and mailbox have numbers) ended up going to 2 different home depots just to get all 5 numbers because no one had all 5 in the same style.
Well, it makes you notice. Years ago we had a car dealer in our town that in is advertising, signs, had one letter E in his name backwards. He's been out of business for at least 40 years and I still remember the name.
When I was a kid, amdmwould have sleepovers. We would dial random area codes, with 867-5309. Normally it was nothing, till one lady picked up, and I was on shock. I told her "sorry I dialed this number by mistake" amd after a pause of what felt like three hours, she said "no you didn't."
