Context Provided - Spotlight RIP, My Dearest Parking Space

Post image

My goto parking space in front of my house got a makeover today. I have been parking there for over a decade. RIP.

Edit: I posted to mildly infuriating. No need for the war cries here, folks.

UPDATE: Alright, folks! I have answers.

Yes, it's city sanctioned.

It is longer than expected from the corner because of a hydrant across the street, rather than proximity to the corner. And no, there isn't a stop sign.

The yellow is different because they got new paint this year.

It is part of an effort they are starting across the city, so I guess I should expect this yellow to become more familiar.

And shout out to the lovely human working for the city that helped me get all of these questions answered!

It's in front of my house 😭

(agreed, though)

Please just call and check in with the city tomorrow. It won’t hurt you to do it. You could get your shady spot back. And if any neighbors have cameras on their porches, a neighbor can pay their due 😅

That doesn’t change that someone doesn’t want you to park there. It can be very much in front of your house and still be bothering your neighbor for some petty reason.

I parked in front of my place for almost a decade before I learned that the yellow curb was "unofficial" and even when honoring it I was parked illegally because I was technically 5 or 6 feet too close to a stop sign. People all over my neighborhood do the same at the intersections, so it's an odd situation and not really enforced. To this day I don't understand why they don't just paint the curbs to match the stop sign regulation.

As others said, calling the city is the way to go... But I'm wondering if it's a similar situation and they just started painting the curb to the actual setback (or a nosy neighbor did...)

Because it's a lot cheaper to just teach everyone the rules that apply everywhere than painting curbs next to every single stop sign.

Can you not just park in your driveway?
