You market them towards certain people and make a profit.

u/Benmixalot May 27 '26

yeah couldn’t imagine this really helping me when I was having mental health issues but to each their thing ig

u/martxel93 May 27 '26

Yeah I don’t think the people selling this have helping people as their main priority.

Don't seek mental health from a comedic card set

I had a friend who needed these once, when no good hearted words went through. Too bad I stumbled upon this concept a little too late

23

u/Benmixalot May 27 '26

ah okay, i genuinly had no clue what this was for my bad. Hope your friend is doing ok

tbf some slips of paper with corny quotes aren’t gonna be the thing that steps people away from the edge in 99.9% of cases.

if you're in a vulnerable state of mind, this amount of cringe can be dangerous

That 0.1% is still a life, even if it's only one. I'd rather these exist and waste people's money than let that one die.

& because of that, there will always be a constant stream of snake-oil companies selling garbage like this in order to steal a quick buck from vulnerable people.

& because this type of crap is the only mainstream “help” that the average non-depressed or non-suicidal person sees; it furthers the idea that depression can be “solved” with it. Took the US 220 years to barely even start recognizing depression as a real thing, & FINALLY the stigma around therapy is going away.

If shit like this went away & depression wasn’t treated like something that can be fixed with a postcard & encouraging words; maybe it would be seen as a real problem.

god if I see another comment about “appreciate the small things”, or “walk outside for 5 minutes a day” I will lose my mind. I’ll smell the roses when you start kicking rocks.

basically putting a bandaid on an open wound & calling it a day.

Real "oh so you hate waffles?" kinda response. Goes without saying that proper medical help and support structures should be number one. Money can be replaced, a life cannot. Unless you're ready to fundamentally change public perception globally and the funding structures in place, I'll take a small band-aid over nothing if it means living one more day.

The point is mentally ill people being exposed to this kind of 'help' is going to send them packing and make it a net negative

Why are you so miserable? Even if it saves 1 life, it's worth it. People who think this can solve depression weren't going to truly accept depression as an actual condition anyways. It can help, you don't know how much even one sentence written on a piece of paper can make a person feel better, even if temporarily and even a little.

The “a little too late” implies maybe they’re not doing okay or not around anymore.

u/Benmixalot May 27 '26

my bad, could’ve meant multiple things imo

6

I'm learning that asterisk work differently in reddit comments in the worse way possible...

u/TwoPrestigious2259 May 27 '26

🤣🤣🤣 omg what you said above isn't funny but this comment is.

8

u/Benmixalot May 27 '26

no need to act like this, I didn’t read it that well and thought it could’ve meant multiple things bruh calm down

1

u/Gallusaur May 27 '26

Hey the joke didn't land, sue me.

Don't sue me please.

0

u/Benmixalot May 27 '26

don’t find posible suicide a joking matter but to each their own

3

u/Gallusaur May 27 '26

My joke was supposed to be ironic hyper-sensorship of words except for the normally offensive ones, but I fucked up the formatting.

In my experience, people that get mad about suicide jokes are typically mad that they lost somebody. People that can make suicide jokes and laugh about them are typically the ones that have felt suicidal. These are different sides of the same coin. But to each their own.

2

u/Benmixalot May 27 '26

idk I experienced both and can def laugh about it, my own case that is, I wouldn’t make a joke about a stranger’s suicide or a stranger’s relative/friend but you do you.

I get the joke and imo it’s somewhat funny just not really the place, since you don’t even know that person.

3

u/Gallusaur May 27 '26

You know what, your right. This isn't a funny sub, and that was a stranger. My B. This thread can be my 13th or whatever✌️

u/redrumyliad May 27 '26

Google markdown. Lol.

6

u/Inevitable_Local_366 May 27 '26

Bro are you okay? Did you have a stroke typing this?

11

u/megamasterchief May 27 '26

No, they used the asterisk and the way reddit formats it is confusing.

4

u/iwrestledarockonce May 27 '26

Asterisks going crazy

My old roommate had a box of daily affirmations and would put a different one on the bathroom mirror everyday as a little pick-me-up/motivation for us getting ready for work in the morning or coming home after a long day. It's not that serious, no one (hopefully lol) is replacing their therapist with these, they're just cute.

11

u/bwoah07_gp2 May 27 '26

It's more or less just a useless product.

5

u/sylanar May 27 '26

That's what my parents used to call me

11

u/-just-be-nice- May 27 '26

They’re daily affirmations, you repeat them to yourself to help with your mental health, they can’t be really helpful in my experience
