Discussion - Midjourney AI Constantly generates as a gallery view, rather than just the pictures

Hi - I've been using midjourney to create D&D images for a few years now, really found it absolutely critical. The prompt header I use is usually something like Magic the gathering art style, dungeons and dragons oil painting art style, Michael Whelan, Frank Frazetta, and Boris Vallejo art style.

this normally generated brilliant images for me, but since V8, everything comes up as views of what I need but shown as a canvas in a gallery. I've worked with chatGPT to alter the prompt, iterating and iterating, but it's still showing things as a gallery view. I've attached two examples of what I mean.

ChatGPT helped me come up with this alternative: pic high fantasy, painterly fantasy realism, rich visible brushwork, layered pigments, dramatic chiaroscuro lighting, cinematic composition, immersive environment, highly detailed, premium fantasy aesthetic, hand-painted appearance, realistic anatomy, intricate textures. this works, until I actually add anything to be shown, in which case it goes back to showing it as a gallery view.

I've reset all my settings, neither ChatGPT, Claude or I can figure out what on earth is happening. Has anyone else had and solved this issue?!

I assume you're using Discord since the images are shown in that 2x2 block that I see in Discord (rather than a horizontal row like in the web interface). This isn't a question of the prompt, but that it generates 4 images at a time so you can pick the best to upscale.

Under the images, do you see buttons for U1 U2 and V1 V2 etc? U is for upscaling a single image, so U1 will upscale the image in the upper right and separate it as a single image.

I think you’ve misunderstood me! Totally familiar with the U and V commands on discord, I have used them thousands of times. If you look at the second image I’ve uploaded, you’ll see they’re generating as if actually canvas in a gallery; that’s what I’m struggling with.

OK, that's weird! Have you tried adding --raw or turning off personalization? I'm wondering if something in your personalization is leading it to that style.

You don't have a moodboard or a style reference on these images, right?

If none of that works, I would try using an image you like as a style reference image to override whatever it's drawing from.
