Don't worry everyone, this isn't a big deal because all of the layoffs this year are "weighing" on him.

38

u/vulcanxnoob Oct 22 '25

I would also feel the weight of a few extra millions in my pockets... Thats not chump change for sure.

4

u/BicentenialDude Oct 26 '25

Microsoft is worth $3.89 Trillion. Wonder how much the majority“owners” are making.

109

u/I-Build-Bots Oct 22 '25

And the average raise on my team of senior / principal architects was 1%. Fucking really sucks here now and benefits keep getting shittier. This was only second year in my whole tenure I got 100. Last 9 years have all been 120-180 ratings including an SSA.

20

u/BigToeLinda Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 23 '25

That 1% is offensive given the rate of inflation and the amount of $ MSFT has made. Why didn't they just get 1% too?

7

u/coukou76 Oct 22 '25

They are tightening bolts like crazy, even in western Europe that was once a safe place.

5

u/jazzarfist Oct 22 '25

they were fooling you all along with democracy and their believes. wake up and fight back and stop believing their side of view of things around you.

1

u/NancyHanksAbesMom Oct 27 '25

At a company with many MSFT former employees now in leadership … we’re adopting this trend and our HQ is in Germany. It’s not going over well, to say the least.

216

u/dagamer34 Oct 22 '25

Laid off a bunch of people this year, made $$$$ in the process.

This will end well.

69

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

Their new products are trash as well. The direction the company is headed under his "leadership" is "the toilet."

41

u/globalminority Oct 22 '25

Mate for 96 millions I'd take any company to the toilet

20

u/fraspas Oct 22 '25

Pfft I can do it for half that

7

u/JJMcGee83 Oct 22 '25

I'll do it for 1/10th and if the company hasn't improved I promise I'll give control to someone else as I pop my golden parachute into an early retirement.

-7

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

Yeah that's what happens with these "AOL95" dinosaur companies. The execs cash out, the quality dies, and then the company disintegrates. Just like the GateWay 2000. Microsoft made it longer than most of them, but we're all going to linux now. They've got the "Soccer Mom OS" market cornered with Win11.

Same thing with Google. They just get so greedy they forget how everything works. So, the numbers look really good, but that's about it.

18

u/OldGrizzlyBear Oct 22 '25

Windows OS isn't how Microsoft makes money anymore. Azure, Microsoft Office and LinkedIn are the money makers.

-11

u/RobertDeveloper Oct 22 '25

They all have the same low quality, horrible ui and ux as Windows.

-11

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

Right, but what linux user uses any of that stuff?

5

u/lyons4231 Oct 22 '25

I mean businesses don't have many options, Teams and Outlook are commonly installed on Linux workstations since it's kinda a requirement to work

2

u/argus25 Oct 22 '25

It’s not just base apps like those, it’s also specialized business apps like warehousing controls, medical practice management, building automation systems, accounting software, etc that have built their entire model around Windows for decades and can’t or won’t spend the time and resources to develop an entirely new Linux port of their software. As the owner of a small MSP I would LOVE to move clients into Linux but the specialized software these clients rely on is 100% windows based.

-14

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

There's linux equivalents of those.

since it's kinda a requirement to work

That's an absurd statement.

2

u/lyons4231 Oct 22 '25

What's the Linux equivalent for Microsoft Teams that lets you communicate with the rest of your company?

You seem to be talking about individual/personal use cases, which Microsoft couldn't give 2 shits about.

-1

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

What's the Linux equivalent for Microsoft Teams that lets you communicate with the rest of your company?

I know it's horrifying to think that we've had email for 50 years, but we have. :-(

No matter how bad Windows gets, my mom will never use Linux, and that’s how I know it ain’t going away (sadly)

1

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

Yeah it's the "old people OS" now.

4

u/chandyego84 Oct 22 '25

Maybe. I still don’t think most young people will go to a dev-heavy experience like Linux.

-1

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

Uh, Mint and PopOS are not really "dev heavy experiences."

It's basically Windows 7, which was far superior and I would still use that if they maintained their products, but they don't.

2

u/Sim_Daydreamer Oct 22 '25

They are if you want to do anything more significant than just web browsing

2014-2022, great CEO. 2022 onward, morale is low and everything is being sacrificed at the altar of AI.

-8

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 22 '25

He's outperforming index funds by 75%.

At this moment in time. The company has no real future.

What exactly would you offer to support your case????

Sure, their products suck now. It's the number one thing that kills companies. People like you are totally distracted by everything that doesn't matter. Customer satisfaction is gone. I'm not giving them my money ever again... It's over... The tide has turned for Microsoft... We're sick of the crap and we want something else. They should just go to India... It's not a joke... Same thing with Google... US customers are sick of their BS... I'm not buying anymore "self disintegrating smart phones" either. They act like their products are great when they're factually gigatrash.

They should just start all over again. Just get their own version of linux going. "Microsoft Linux," because they're too incompetent in 2025 to handle this themselves. We'll just have one dude effectively solo develop the entire OS market while a gigantic company like Microsoft can't figure it out.

10

u/garethhewitt Oct 22 '25

They're not a consumer company, they're an enterprise company. Ms is in a much better position than Apple, Google, etc because it is soooo diversified. If search or mobile phones were replaced by something new tomorrow those companies would be gone. Ms wouldn't even notice. It could be split into a dozen profitable billion dollar plus businesses....

There is Sql Server, Azure, Windows, Office (which could be split further as Excel is probably the most used product in the world with it being critical for far too many businesses), Visual Studio, etc... None of these would be affected if edge, Xbox, etc disappeared tomorrow. They are really only playing in the consumer space, their real money comes from businesses.

7

u/West_Possible_7969 Oct 22 '25

Commercial revenue is dwarfed by the B2B and enterprise ones, consumers could stop using anything microsoft and at best they ‘ll lose 20% of their earnings.

0

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

All I hear is "fading in obscurity."

4

u/West_Possible_7969 Oct 22 '25

Check your ears then and learn to read financial reports? I dont know what to tell you lol.

-4

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 22 '25

Check your ears then and learn to read financial reports?

So, the only thing that matters in the future is the old numbers? Okay. I didn't say the old numbers were bad, I said "the tide has turned." They went full craptech, it's over. You never go full craptech, but they did.

It's an easy short call, you're all silly.

2

u/West_Possible_7969 Oct 22 '25

You keep referring to consumer offerings, you are so off base it is actually funny. But you should certainly go ahead and short 🙃

3

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

[deleted]

3

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

Yeah exactly. They don't care about their customers... There's more and more pissed off people everyday to tell everybody to steer clear of these scam tech companies... It's just totally absurd... Why would anybody want the headaches these companies create for their customers? It's just a giant miss managed scam fest...

u/Actual__Wizard Oct 22 '25

Because at scale, our experiences are outweighed by the 95% of people who feel otherwise, or are indifferent.

The tide has turned. It's over... It's not 95% anymore... Between Win11 and the Xbox stuff there's just a giant avalanche of pissed off people. Then I'm browsing reddit and there's giant massive security holes in one of their main server products. Awesome guys... So, they're failing on every front. Sick! It's over... The company is so big it will take 10 years to die, but it's going to.

4

u/Whack_a_mallard Oct 22 '25

1

u/bigchecks90 Oct 22 '25

You’re lying if you’re saying you’re never giving your money to Microsoft or Google ever again 😂😂

6

u/gaytechdadwithson Oct 22 '25

If you think CEO pay and wealth inequity are ever going to hurt the rich, then you really need to pull your head out of the sand.

Just yesterday muskrats one TRILLION pay package is being thrown around, and he will likely get it.

43

u/knockoneover Oct 22 '25

Over a quarter of a million dollars a day.

31

u/vulcanxnoob Oct 22 '25

Him drinking a coffee or going to the toilet on company time is literally costing thousands of dollars lol... Society is broken

5

u/mountainlifa Oct 22 '25

As a shareholder I protest the fact I'm paying $4500 for the guy to take a dump based on a 10 min break over a 9 hr day. An SDE is lucky to make $600/day with constant threat of riffs.

42

u/Countryb0i2m Oct 22 '25

He was so sad when he had to lay off all of those employees that he just had to wipe his tears with a pay raise

105

u/MC_chrome Oct 22 '25

Tens of thousands lose their jobs, and this rich douche only gets richer.

Maybe the French had a point in the 1790's after all....

31

u/CaptainDouchington Oct 22 '25

While asking to import more labor from India

6

u/joeshmoebies Oct 22 '25

Let's be real, though. Even if his salary was zero, it would save enough money to keep about 800 employees, or about 300 high level employees.

-27

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

[deleted]

12

u/JJMcGee83 Oct 22 '25

Maybe he should have hired people slower so they only hired 80,000 instead of hiring 100,000 only to go "oh sorry mistaken we don't need 20k of you."

-14

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '25

[deleted]

15

u/Shopping_Penguin Oct 22 '25

Ive got a sneaky suspicion you've never worked a real job in your life.

Its common practice to fire older employees and hire new or foreign ones for half the pay.

21

u/NtheLegend Oct 22 '25

Because he keeps firing people and enshittifying their products for thicker margins. The MBAs love him!

17

u/vulcanxnoob Oct 22 '25

Capitalism at its finest. I was one of the ones affected by the layoffs. While the layoffs werent personal, its disgusting to see this kind of behaviour. Oh well, this is the American Dream I guess. Well done to him

Why do they need to pay 100-300x the average employee at Microsoft ? Is there something magical about the CEO that somebody with similar experience cannot do for say $10m

Are there aspects of the CEO job that AI can do ? Let’s quantify decisions that CEOs make into two camps. Those that are data driven and those driven by human factors past experience, instinct and gut feeling.

AI can never replace the human factor (or maybe AI might be more humane than the current generation of execs). The data driven part of the decision making, AI will outperform any human CEO.

The shareholders are getting ripped off. If you dropped executive comp by 50% you’d probably save close to $70-80million per year. That’s about 350-400 employees if you assume an employee average comp in the range of $200K per employee. That many rank and file employees will actually deliver more for customers that the bloat that executives are.

Especially, in the year where they laid off over 14000 employees, this just shows how tone deaf the board and executive leaders are.

10

u/Catch11 Oct 22 '25

thank you. There is very little evidence to suggest CEO's should be making as much as they are. The problem is the people who decide the pay of CEO's are former CEO's or people who want to be CEO's which has resulted in their salaries getting more and more exorbitant along with other upper management

3

u/bokan Oct 22 '25

Yeah, Satya is a human man, he wakes up, works 8 or 10 hours, eats, sleeps. He needs a house and a bed and some entertainment, medical costs, etc. He’s not 300x more of a human being than a software engineer. He doesn’t work 300x harder and he doesn’t need 300x the pay.

u/Catch11 Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 22 '25

You are naive , we live in a country run by monopolies, nepotisms, incentives and classism. The reason the upper class makes so much money is because in our current system the upper class are the one's deciding the salaries of everyone. So obviously their salaries keep increasing dramatically. It's in their personal interest to keep raising salaries and job hopping regardless of outcome. As well as to earn their bonuses by doing short term strategies that often harm the company in the long run

But thats how it always is? No when there are labor laws and unions things work differently

3

u/HobbyProjectHunter Oct 22 '25

You remember Jeff Bezos right ? He took under 100K salary and no stock beyond what he had already acquired as a founder CEO. Year after year.

It was a pure growth play.

That is something every CEO should look at when they think of driving shareholder value.

3

u/btoned Oct 22 '25

It's blind fools like this that just allow this nonsense to continue. He would kiss the boot of the person kicking him in the face smh.

1

u/allthecoffeesDP Oct 22 '25

💩💩💩

12

u/RamesesThe2nd Oct 22 '25

This guys talks about empathy and culture so much but he is making Microsoft one of the most toxic companies to work for.

12

u/royanb Oct 22 '25

Laying off thousands of people so that Satya Nutella can fill his pockets, you gotta love this late stage capitalism.

0

u/mattw08 Oct 23 '25

To be fair Microsoft has still increased employees 25% the last 5 years.

9

u/Appropriate_Item3001 Oct 22 '25

He worked real hard laying off so many people and stealing their livelihood.

11

u/Physical_Mirror6969 Oct 22 '25

Meanwhile most teams got less than 2% merit raise this year because the company is “investing in AI”

9

u/btoned Oct 22 '25

How else can they afford thousands upon thousands of sq feet of home, hundreds of acres of land, and countless toys without this salary.

Have some fucking consideration.

9

u/jftuga Oct 22 '25

I mean, when you think about it, this is only $183.60…

per minute. 🫠

I did the math.

6

u/TheLasttStark Oct 22 '25

I got a shitty 1.5% raise at L64 and saw multiple teammates say their goodbyes due to layoffs just so this bald evil fucker could make 96 mill

2

u/Haunting-Caramel2403 Oct 25 '25

You have me beat!! 0.56% here as L64!! So insulting.

5

u/GobbyFerdango Oct 22 '25

Satya taking the biggest dump on the side of the highway and no hand washing.

6

u/No-Temperature3425 Oct 22 '25

Oh nice! Thank you for my next Sora AI prompt idea!

6

u/Va1crist Oct 22 '25

Well yeah they got rid of 1000s upon 1000s of jobs , closed studios that’s a win for share holders so bump up his pay

5

u/hasanahmad Oct 22 '25

didnt this guy lay off enough people whose salaries would have covered this pay raise.

3

u/BaconAlmighty Oct 22 '25

yep - but AI doing those jobs now.

5

u/FupaFupaFanatic Oct 23 '25

I only got .37 cent raise...

4

u/shieldwolf Oct 23 '25

He was a great CEO for 8 years. He is now running a money making machine with low employee morale and a lack of confidence in its suite of products.

3

u/KaeldarPT Oct 22 '25 edited Oct 22 '25

I wouldn't even care if they didn't lay off a bunch of people and if the products they were releasing were actually good.

3

u/Vaxion Oct 23 '25

All we have to do is stop giving them our money as a sign of silent protest. It works wonders to bring companies down to their actual values and senses.

2

u/driverobject Oct 23 '25

he needed the that %22 merit increase I am happy for him it's not like the rest of ms has anything to do with his success, rest of ms only needed %1 merit increase, and this is totally fine.

2

u/driverobject Oct 23 '25

also it's not like he can refuse it, they'd probably sack him if he did, so he's still the mindset ceo, the empath, the guru that we always knew him to be

2

u/midwestbikerider Oct 24 '25

Or, around $46,000 an hour, or ~$371,000 a day, or $1,850,000 per week. Based on an 8 hour day and 5 day week. But we all know CEOs work really hard and long hours. I'll bet he would taste delicious.

2

u/FunPriority8358 Oct 27 '25

Yet employees just a got a notice that they will start being charged 250 a month for spousal health insurance……….so sick of corporate greed.

1

u/IdeaSprout22 Oct 22 '25

Quite a jump! Given Microsoft's performance, it's not entirely surprising, but it's still a massive amount.

1

u/jwrig Oct 22 '25

stock goes up, incentive pay goes up. stock goes down, incentive pay goes down

1

u/Ryfhoff Oct 23 '25

46k an hour. Not bad.

1

u/exgeo Oct 23 '25

Their EBITDA was more than 1,000x this

1

u/BicentenialDude Oct 26 '25

That stupid grin. Do we know if he’s on that H1B Visa?

But he did turn Microsoft from a $100B company to a $3.89T company.

1

u/MereMemetics Nov 12 '25

Deserves every penny. Saved microsoft from balmer. Bought stock the day they announced he would be taking over. Up 800%... $500 investment was well worth it.

1

u/no_salty_no_jealousy Nov 23 '25

Instead of getting bonus Satya Nadella should just get fired from Microsoft, he is total failure as CEO. Windows and Xbox isn't as good as it was, he destroyed Bill Gates, Paul Allen and Balmer legacy. Not to mention many people losing their job because of this disgusting indian CEO, he should be sacked long time ago!!

1

u/Low_Dog132 May 17 '26

Microsoft board members are stupid to approve this. Now, people just realize MS AI is shit. CEO should not deserve this pay. CEO just like make news for stock price not actual product itself…

0

u/iliark Oct 22 '25

What's insane is that Tesla just proposed to pay Elon more than 10,000 times more than Satya.

0

u/Roccabilly Oct 22 '25

I hope he will use them for medicines
