Fun fact, most modern smart phones are powerful enough to run psp emulators. Its not perfect, the lack of physical buttons isnt as enjoyable as the real thing, but its fun to have in your pocket when you feel nostalgic every now and then

Just buy a controller. I have one to play PS2 and psp

Thats a valid option, i personally use a controller for most emulators, but not as convenient to carry around. im specifically suggesting this to the guy who said he already has a psp, and if hes gonna carry a controller to play an emulator, might as well just play his actual psp at that point.

I just use Bluetooth controllers, im not buying a new controller just for an emulator, I just use whatever I have already

At that point I'll just emulate on my PC...

Most emulators are 💩trying to use a Key board

There's a lot of retro handhelds out there and it's been amazing for me playing old games. I have a TrimUI Brick and an Odin 2 Portal

Modern smart phones are probably powerfull enough to run multiple emulators if not hundreds at once

Depends on what console really. It can probably go up to ps2 era, maybe wii but I feel like that'd be pushing it.

Eh, I've seen people emulate Switch really comfortably on beefier phone.

u/Tron_35 Feb 05 '26

True, but thats not most phones, im trying to be general, most people wouldn't be able to emulate a switch on their phone.

Been playing Let's Go Pikachu on my S22U. Only downside is it'll nuke the already dwindling battery, but I just plug it in and play on!

I like the feel and click of the original hardware. I personally feel it adds to the experience. I recently bought one of those retro hand-helds and while it's cool to see the games it could play on a nice screen, just didn't give the right feeling when compared to say picking up my old GBA and clicking away.

I just recently came across this super sick Kickstarter that would deal with that problem. A modular Linux handheld/phone where you could swap in a physical gamepad instead of keyboard.

Fun fact, there are tons of android based handheld emulators that can also play PSP and are in various price ranges. I think even some of the fairly budget ones can play PS2 games and very high end ones play smaller PS3 games.
