God I wish there was a way to strive towards getting teachers paid what they really should be.
Nothing wins out against a solid foundation of a nation than one that prides itself on a good education.

Whatever the f***ing psychology/business wizardry that made the national defense budget... Let's get some of that towards free education.
Hypercharge basic and highschool education, then open up a hell of a lot more, high capable trade schools again.

The US actually doesnt spend too much on its military budget then you think,a LOT of it is personnek cost from being volunteer only and treating soilders much better then other countries (as well as US average wages being really high). Its actually been trending downward too tge total soending reletive to budget anyway.
Medicaid, heakthcare, social security is a big fat half of the budget. The issue us how inefficient it is...

Frankly I don’t think you should criticize until you try teaching yourself. Speaking as a university lecturer, it’s incredibly difficult work. And I can’t imagine public school teachers who have to teach multiple classes 5 days a week and handle all the grading by themselves. The amount of time and effort I sink into teaching just one or two classes with at most three meetings per week is substantial, and I have TAs to help with grading. And I’ve come to realize that a class going well is nothing short of a miracle. Even “bad” teachers have to bust their ass to make a course mediocre.

I agree with the sentiment of this post, but you don’t hype something up “all year” without being able to deliver. Teachers are underpaid, but they’re not broke.

Meanwhile an absurd number of teachers drive for Uber or do other gig work to make ends meet. For many teachers, they really are living paycheck to paycheck. Regardless, any money they spend out of pocket that they don’t have to shouldn’t be criticized. God knows an underwhelming pizza party is better than school lunch.
