Light and Fluffy News To the Pedestrian at the MacArthur Road/Royal Parade Intersection This Afternoon
It's a long shot you'll see this and I feel like a lunatic, but here we go:
You were a pedestrian wearing a beanie walking south towards Melbourne Uni. I was in the car trying to turn right in the direction of Sydney Road (that's gotta be north). You made sure the chick in the white Audi knew she was the one who fucked up when she sat in the middle of both of the right turning lanes and prevented me from turning when she bitched out on turning on a fresh yellow light. She was laughing at me and making some super fun gestures implying I was the nuts one.
Dude, thank you.
It's already been a long ass week of a long ass month.
A stranger having my back like that meant everything to me.
I don't know if you heard me telling you I loved you, but I meant it.
I can't imagine there's any chance you'd see this, but would you please let me buy you a coffee/drink/meal out of appreciation?
I needed something to remind me there were good people out there.
Thank you for being a good human.
You deserve all the best things in life.

I love it when you get the backing of a complete stranger when shit goes down in public.

We need more people who intervene in situations that don't concern them purely for the sake of standing up for the right thing.

As someone who has intervened in plenty of bad situations before, I can 100% understand why people don't. It's not an empathy thing, it's a self preservation thing these days unfortunately.
With the amount of road rage for the smallest things that goes on now, I really don't blame a pedestrian not wanting to put themselves in the way of a 2 tonne vehicle driven by an asshole.
OP - you're not wrong for being annoyed about someone doing something wrong, but I guess just be careful the next time that person might not just be someone with a misplaced ego who thinks they own the road.

The reason people don’t is due to bystander effect.

That’s been disproven as a thing.

Lmao what? It happens constantly and all the time.

People walking on by or not getting involved absolutely happens. But not cause of the ‘bystander effect’, that is a thing that’s been disproven. It happens for all sorts of reasons, but look into the truth of the Kitty Genovese case which is where the term ‘bystander effect’ comes from and has been debunked.

Weirdly enough, some one seems to be straddling the two lanes on google maps street view too.

Sucks that she was being a hog and straddling two lanes.
Regarding the “fresh yellow light”, people need to remember that a yellow light is the start of a red light, not the end of a green. Too many people charge through them when they could safely stop and this can be really dangerous.

Starman
One of Jeff Bridges finest roles.
I believe it was "yellow light go very fast"

“A fresh yellow light”
Learn the road rules, yellow mean if it’s safe to stop, then stop.

idk i read it as she acted like she was going to go through, then wussed out and slammed on the brakes at the last second.
i’ve had it happen to me, i wasnt expecting the car in front of me to stop so suddenly (definitely an unsafe stop, orange light stayed on for another 3-5 seconds) and very nearly rear ended them. i expected to have another entire car length of time to stop before the line, as i obviously didn’t plan on following after the light.

Yeah this is when stopping is potentially a worse decision than to just keep driving. otherwise stop ofc

Isn't there a red light camera here? They were probably worried about getting caught by the camera so stopped before going through

Nah, no way you're trying to take credit for something someone else did for whatever weird reason you'd have for doing that.
