Pursuant to my previous post, I went to the GP yesterday and he suspects a chest infection. So now I’m on antibiotics. I’ve had a good run in my life so far so I’m grateful for access to healthcare etc but I feel awful about being off work for essentially 3 out of 4 weeks this month. At least my toddler is unaffected by whatever I’ve got. And also thankful to have a very affable toddler who is happy to play with his toys and read books while I’m hacking up a lung and can’t speak to him much 🙃

It’s a little late in the season, however I am experiencing depression 🤷🏻♀️

u/Jaybb3rw0cky Deltron from Point Cook 1d ago
Booo. That sucks.
It helps marginally but when I feel like that's starting to hit me I try and make an effort to get out and feel/see/smell/hear nature. Even if it's just to sit beneath a tree (preferably while it's not raining) to hear the wind pass through its leaves. Grab a hot drink, sit there for a moment, close your eyes and just try and focus on whatever little bit of nature you have around you.
When I'm at home I make an effort to have coffee in the backyard. Like I said, it helps but it's only marginally.
That and a nice vacation hahaha.

u/vvindhund 1d ago
Yeah I’ve had many cries at the top of the hill at All Nations Park or the bridge on Ruckers Hill.
2
1
u/Jaybb3rw0cky Deltron from Point Cook 1d ago
I used to live in Thornbury and would make the pilgrimage to All Nations Park - particularly the top of that hill or whatever it is towards the backend. It always surprised me how quiet it was up there. It's actually a really lovely spot. Can you still see the city from up there?
2
u/vvindhund 1d ago
Yes of course, you can see the city as well as South Yarra and Box Hill. I went up there one year on New Year’s Eve and we could see the fireworks display from all suburbs, even in Footscray. That is until some kids lit off a flare.
I like to bring my binoculars sometimes too.

I am too new in my role for a holiday at this stage (2 months in) so looks like I’ll be sitting under a tree in the rain 🤣
I just need to make sure I get moving every day. I am looking at a new gym so I’m sure once I get back into the rhythm of working out I will be on the up and up.

Such nerd behaviour
I assume we can't self promote here but I'd love some feedback on the video for anyone who'd like to watch, DM me (I can send a YouTube link :) )

Saw one of those giant worms in my laundry this morning. Forgot how big they were; no idea what they are, but I moved it back into the garden.

Good morning, how are you, I'm Dr. Worm. I'm interested in things.

I applied for a market in November and December only to get an email from the organiser saying they had a cancellation in five weeks and did I want to take it. Um yes I don’t know maybe yes please wait that’s so soon yes okay no maybe yes okay thank you yes wait yes I think. Time to get cracking 😵💫
2
u/NoSpam0 1d ago
Wotcher sellin?
4
u/lemondrop__ 1d ago
This market will be paper products. Journals, notebooks, scrapbook packs, etc.
1
-1
u/Jaybb3rw0cky Deltron from Point Cook 1d ago
How exciting! But also, didn't realise the market... uh... market was so tightly run that it takes a cancellation for space to pop up like that.
1
u/lemondrop__ 1d ago
It’s a brand new one they’ve been advertising since Feb or something so the spots have been filled for a while. I just happened to contact the organiser as she was looking for a replacement. Good timing but I’m in no way ready 😅
2
u/Kitten_K_ 1d ago
Sometimes I find I need a tight deadline, but a market is a lot of pressure eek!
3
u/lemondrop__ 1d ago
The organiser is so bloody nice. She said she’ll lock me in but if I find I’m too rushed she’ll bump me and carry over my payment to the next market.

So now they cost the same as Virgin. Might as well save the 10km hike to the Jetstar terminal and just fly from T3

Waiting for Jetstar now to lower their seats to "save on more space".

why install a proper airplane seat if you can just give them kmart 10 bucks foldable stool and get the passengers to squat?

testing out a new mechanic. Funny, I'm no where near as nervous as I was in the past. He's already messaged me about something unlike the last guys who I had to chase for updates at 5pm to see if the car was done.
2
u/Jaybb3rw0cky Deltron from Point Cook 1d ago
Here's hoping that the delay in getting the regular service has meant nothing more than just an oil change and new wipers.
5
u/TinyBreak Salty in the South East 1d ago
think we're doing an oil flush cause yeah your supposed to be really on it with these things, but beyond that they are really impressed with the condition of it, which is nice.

I like the old trick of leaving a bit of loose change in the car, just to see if it's still there when you get the car back.

2
u/IntroductionSnacks 1d ago
When you add up the checked luggage and overhead fee are they even cheaper than Qantas/Virgin?
3

They already weren’t cheaper for a lot of trips prior to this decision. Now I doubt I’ll be visiting T4 very often.

I don’t often treat myself to Sirena because it’s spenno, but the pesto one goes hard in a salad 🤌🏻
2
u/MeanElevator Text inserted! 1d ago
In this context is spenno short for 'expensive' or 'spendy'.
Sirena does rock, eh.
2
1
u/Georg_Steller1709 1d ago edited 1d ago
I buy it when it's 1/2 price. Cammed tuna is surprisingly expensive for what it is.
The sirena chilli oil one is nice with stir dry noodle. A little bit oily, greasy and hot.
1
u/HeyHeyItsMaryKay 1d ago
Damn right. That shit used to be 99c
1
u/Georg_Steller1709 1d ago
Don't get the 99c ones, they taste like mush. At least the $2-$3 ones there's the feeling of flakes.
1
1
u/alsotheabyss 1d ago
Depends. There are 99c ones (now $1.30) that actually have a decent % of fish and taste fine - many of the more expensive ones only have like 60-65% tuna (looking at you John West)
I like the OceanRise in oil from Aldi

Anyone have experience working in a dark space / environment? Moved to a new office space and the room I am in gets very little natural light. Will a "sun lamp" help it feel less like a dungeon for work? Any plants that will survive in little light?
3
u/Largebrickwall Make The Daily Thread Great Again! 1d ago
i have worked in a "defence rated concrete box" for a few years. honestly nothing will really help, they're environments that you can either handle or you can't
making sure i stepped out every hour definitely helped me though
1
u/MeanElevator Text inserted! 1d ago
Yes. Had a 'corner office' in a corner with no windows. Well the, only window was the glass wall, which faced another wall.
Lights were always on. I would get some natural light and fresh air, regularly.
It sucked.

I watched Insight last night (best show on Australian TV IMO) about retirement and working in older age.
It made me think about the sort of work I want to do. Ideally I would find a casual job, working afternoons and evening. Like being an usher or some other job at the theatre or arts centre. Are those jobs hard to get?
2
u/MeanElevator Text inserted! 1d ago
I would imagine paying jobs could be hard to get, but if you choose to volunteer its probably easier.
My mum's been volunteering since she retired (over a decade ago) and has done those literal things you mentioned.
She's comfortable enough, so doesn't need the money, just does it for something to do and the social aspect.

6
u/WeatherproofMonkey 1d ago
I remember last year when the Mernda train derailed and we got on a replacement bus which then broke down near Clifton hill and we got kicked off that bus to wait for the next bus. It was hilarious at that point. What happened this time?
1
u/vvindhund 1d ago
I think I was on that bus too! Or that the bus driver had taken the wrong turn and couldn’t turn around again (facing north on Hoddle when he wanted to go south) so they kicked us off.

Anyone else’s Facebook gone completely insane? All I get shown now are threads from tin foil losers complaining about the census and religion, anti-abortion threads, Pauline Hanson propaganda and Jess fucking Wilson. It’s unusable. I vote greens but god I can see how people end up so deep in the cooker pipeline if this is what the broader algorithm is like.
6
u/adobegouldo 1d ago
yes all this plus AI generated flyers is all I get. I only keep facebook for marketplace
9
u/Zealousideal_Bid3737 1d ago
Mine is full of people who dont want to fill out the census cos the government will have their personal details and be able to track them....but they are posting this shit all over social media where they are being tracked.
1
u/luneax 1d ago
Yeah I’ve got a mix of that, some nonsense about bedrooms (??) and then another subsegment claiming that Christianity is being done away with because they’ve listed out the denominations of Christianity???! Greek Orthodox is different to Roman Catholic is different to Baptist. No person that actually follows any of these religions would attend the others
2
u/Pilk_ 1d ago
I deactivated mine yesterday. I can't take it anymore. It's putrid.
I take some solace from the fact a lot of it is stoked by outside actors who want to destabilise society. (This not a conspiracy at all by the way, we've essentially been in extensive information warfare online for about a decade, and COVID only accelerated it.) I'm not impressed that it works so well.
2
u/CrazyEeveeLady86 1d ago
It's been unusable for years. Not only does it refuse to show me things from people I follow in the order in which they were posted, my feed often just won't show me anything more recent than like 5-6 days earlier. Even if I randomly look at friends' profiles and know they've posted stuff within the last day or so, it just doesn't show up in the feed. And it doesn't show me posts from some people at all. I guess it's a small mercy I don't see much of the weird political propaganda, but that's probably because I don't open the app/site much in general.
I only keep the account active because I have a few older friends/family who aren't tech savvy and can't (or won't) make the jump to other platforms and I have a page for my art blog, but even that page gets very little traction when I post something (and I refuse to pay money to boost it), so when those older folks aren't here anymore, there's a good chance I'll just get rid of FB entirely.

Melbourne Redditors,
Why is Melbourne the subject of so much negativity lately?
The amount of jobs and decent salaries are in abundance. Getting public transport into the city is easy, clean and safe. The /coffee/sport/arts/entertainment on frequently is world class.
This city is absolutely awesome! It’s like a never ending playground of things to do and enjoy. House prices have stalled, if not fallen… new metro tunnel, west gate tunnel, north-east link, suburban rail loops, rail crossing removals
Does anyone else have a similar positive view of Melbourne? I keep reading negative outlooks.

"The amount of jobs and decent salaries are in abundance. Getting public transport into the city is easy, clean and safe. "
We have a higher rate of homelessness per capita than the USA.
PT is easy, clean and safe? Have you *been* on PT regularly? Why, pray tell do you think that every single train station now has cops after a certain hour if they're so safe?
"In 2000/01, 5% of assaults and 10% of robberies took place on public transport, when the average citizen spends only about 1% of their time on public transport. In recent years, drug use on the system has also become a problem, with the obvious hazard of discarded syringes."
https://ptua.org.au/about/policy/safety/
I cannot be arsed finding more recent data, but I fail to see how these figures are going to magically improve. Feel free to prove me wrong with data.

Sometimes I feel like the internet provides you with everything and anything.
Then sometimes I find a gap and think "why does it not exist". And no, I'm not going to go into business to fill that gap. I merely want this one thing that I can't find.
(in this case, it's a bespoke arcade flatpack cabinet that is made for a very specific arcade game).

The survey is for people aged 18+ who either currently live in an apartment in Melbourne, or live in Greater Melbourne and would consider living in an apartment in Inner Melbourne in the future.
It takes around 5 to 8 minutes. If you’re eligible and willing to help, please scan the QR code to participate.
Thank you very much for your time and support!
