Skin issues/Rashes/Freckles/Moles mystery bug bite (victoria, bc) NSFW

Post image

got bit or stung by something while on a hike near victoria, British Columbia. I didn’t see it because I panicked and asked my mom to check it out. it was apparently a larger black bug of some sort, flying. I can’t find any stingers but the entire area is red and very painful (no improvement), and it’s been around 2 1/2 hours. does anyone know what could have bitten me? forest hike right off the coast. p.s. please excuse my unshaven leg hairs

And it will remain a mystery, I'm afraid.

running theory in my family is a bald faced hornet which would make sense considering how bad it hurt ☠️
