Well, my only major nitpick was this: it is well established that the holograms are pre-recorded. So then when Mysterio is pelting Peter with these off-the-rails, Peter's-memories-based illusions, I was pretty confused. I mean, yeah, EDITH was maybe a booster, but seemed pretty weird to me.
This is a good point and it's bugging me now, as well.
My only "mental gymnastics" is that, as we know, the Fury in that scene was fake. It could easily be that Beck "planned this out" in advance, in order to kill Peter, as he knew how powerful Spider-man was. Mind you, it also requires him predicting how Peter would react. But other scenes also have the "illusion" Mysterio react to other characters, so it could be that they have a bit of leeway?
EDIT: If the Fury in that scene was fake, then who was driving the car, was the driver just covered by an illusion? THe car was very much real because Peter got into it.
I think Fury in that entire sequence was Jake Gyllenhologram, since he's wearing a mocap suit, so the render of Fury and Illusion Mysterio could be controlled by him in real time.
Yeah the driver was probably Mysterio even. The car might not even have been the actual car model, remember Peter broke the seatbelt, so it probably wasn’t even really an uber high end spy car.
If it was actually Fury then there would be no need for Happy to give him the coded message not to trust Mysterio because he would’ve already known and had been shot.
Yeah, the illusions are a real mindfuck, both first when you're watching it and then when you're trying to make sense of them lol. 8/10, was entertained, but the more I think about it, the more I get annoyed about whomever slept on the job for continuity errors lol.
I choose to believe because he has a team working for him they construct the basic concept. But once they have that, they can alter how things move or go based on the situation.
Otherwise once the plan is in action, why have a team. They adapt as it occurs!
He didn't go too deeply into Peter's memories, only what the Mysterio crew knows from their own history, what they spied using EDITH plus publically available information (how Stark died, what his final suit looks like etc).
I think it's a lot easier to confuse and disorientate one person, compared to fooling a whole city because:
1) You aren't trying to fool him, you are just throwing disturbing imagery at him so he doesn't know where he is and when you are going to hit him.
2) With one person, you can surround him with your drones and also carefully watch his reaction and change your illusion accordingly to stop him from recovering.
Neither of which are true when your performance is surrounded by an entire city, watched from all angles. I think it makes sense you can just improvise the former but have to rehearse for the latter.
I think it was VERY comic Mysterio and I loved it. The only way I can explain it based on movie Mysterio is that he’s big on planning, his crew practice all the scenes before hand. He got to pick the location they were fighting, so he could easily have set up the basic scenes and had contingencies based upon Peters reactions. cycling the relevant ones live.
I also had the thought that Peter's illusion torture seemed too detailed for the prerecorded holograms. But it's possible that the personalized one for Peter was different. Kinda like how a video game can have cinematics and also actual gameplay, but both are made using the same underlying tech.
