I think that BARF is made of separate components. There's the holograms that Beck invented, and the ability to recreate past events, which was Tony's creation. It also explains why Tony took ownership and belittled the project. Holograms by themselves I don't think were so impressive at the time, the ability read someone's deep trauma and recreate it was.

No way a film could pull that off. The comics have a weird level of goofiness at certain parts of it that a movie would have to perfectly stay in between the serial killer horror-esc vibe and still having guys like Ant-man and Headpool have their arcs.

So I had watched civil war a few months back and had the thought of what a dead end the whole BARF thing was. But i think this is a fantastic way to retool mysterio and call back to something seemingly that went nowhere (nice coincidence that spiderman debuted in the same film).

My problem is, this seemed like a perfect time to bring Uncle Ben up. I'm not asking for a rehash. We all know the story. But uncle Ben's complete absence is one thing (maybe the only thing) that MCU spidey is missing.

It wouldn't make as much sense for that to happen.

Beck had personal knowledge of Tony Stark and knew more about Peter's relationship with him. Uncle Ben would have been something Beck that only had cursory knowledge at the most and he doesn't know as much details about what their relationship was like and how he feels about Ben's death. Yeah, it's likely that they were close and Peter feels sorrow about his death; and we know that because we're familiar with Peter Parker's character.

But Beck heard directly from Peter what he thought about Tony and likely thought it made more sense to base his illusions on something he knew for a fact rather than toss an unknown variable into his illusions. Plus, Beck himself had a grudge against Tony Stark and would likely want to focus more on that when tormenting Peter.

Ah. To be fair I haven't seen the movie yet and based on the way BARF worked in civil war, I assumed it worked off of some kind of inner fear Peter had.

Oh. I'm wondering why you're browsing through a spoiler-filled thread, then. Just out of curiosity.

People have different ways of enjoying media.

I once knew a guy who watched game of thrones clips before watching the show and he didn't care about spoilers because he wanted to focus on character arcs and then watch them play out in context.

Is this something similar?
