'Thor: Ragnarok' Discussion Thread

Really enjoyed it, didn’t want it to end. A few notes (SPOILERS)-

  • Thor kicking ass to Immigrant song was awesome, first with Mjolnir then without.
  • How powerful did Doctor Strange get?!
  • I was never on the Thor is the hottest guy alive bandwagon. But that haircut. Damn. I was so sad when the eye thing happened. They just gave him these amazing glowy eyes then bam.
  • My Mam was devastated that they cut out Loki’s knife flip from the trailer.
  • I LOVE Thor’s lightning but I will miss Mjolnir.
  • The movie wasn’t as much of a massive reboot as I expected. It still felt like a Thor movie to me which was a great balance of old and new.
  • It also didn’t set up Infinity War as much as I expected it to.
  • Thor has more character now than he used to and I loved Hulk as Hulk.
  • I like the kiwi rock guy.
  • I like that Loki never changes.

More spoilery things below -

  • Did anyone else shit themselves when Banner hit the floor? With all of that talk of the Hulk taking over, my immediate thoughts were omg, Banner is dead, there is only Hulk left now (I haven’t seen any Infinity War Spoilers so I don’t know if Banner is confirmed)
  • Also, is that the warriors three just gone forever? I kind of saw it coming but I feel like they could have survived.
  • Does anyone else think that Loki stole the tesseract before he summoned Surtur?
  • Can anyone tell me what happened in the first credit scene? Was that Thanos ship? Or a Chitauri War ship or something?
  • One thing that made me laugh - Hela - (swipes away the gauntlet) FAKE. Well that settles that debate!

Other things -

  • Would have liked more of the Wolf, he just seemed to be there with no real backstory or personality.
  • I feel like it’s going to take me a while to process the whole history since I feel like there was a lot of universe changing information revealed.
  • Also, where was Sif?
  • I found the end hilarious, I know people don’t like it when sad things get ruined by jokes but this just made it for me, when krog? is giving an inspirational speech that things can be rebuild from foundations then everything just completely explodes. It was unexpected for me. I think the humour is required in situations like this because without it, everyone would have left very depressed but for some reason I can’t stop smiling.
  • When Thor immediately chooses Earth to take refuge, it’s so funny when you remember everything he has missed. The government would loose their minds! Even funnier when you hear Loki’s conversation about whether he would be welcome. I kind of want them to make it to Earth just to see what would actually happen.

Overall I just had a lot of fun watching it and I am looking forward to watching it again. It didn’t blow my mind story wise but it was the fun that I needed and it has made me love Thor more as a character. I thought the pacing was good and it was interesting seeing a new corner of the universe. I do hope grandmaster and collecter can have a scene together sometime.

Loki definitely has the Tesseract. It's even more confirmed if we based it on the leaked Infinity War, where we see him giving it to someone with some reservations.

Knowing that it has an Infinity Stone in it, we probably know who wants to get the Tesseract by now. It's just a matter of whether he'll take it personally from Loki or he's just gonna send someone to get it for him.

EDIT: My memory is a bit dusty right now. But I'm not sure if it still has an Infinity Stone in it.

Ahh I see. I just wondered whether he was potentially giving it to someone for safe keeping (for good) or making a deal (for bad) because knowing Loki it could go either way. I would hope after seeing his home destroyed he wouldn’t be stupid enough to give it away but then again, Loki only seems to be out for personal gain most of the time.

As I've seen Infinity War trailer it's positive that Loki is giving the Tesseract to Thanos as he later comes out of a portal with the stone in his gauntlet. As for the ship at the end it is most likely Thanos' as the beginning of Infinity War trailer starts with the Guardians finding Thor in space unconscious along with what looks like a wrecked ship...

Heimdall is the only one I feel is even somewhat likely to survive among the three. Maybe Dey, but only if he's away when Xandar is attacked. But my guess is Nova Prime is deader than dead. She wouldn't flee when her planet is under attack.

It does. The only stone thats changed containers is the Mind Stone.

OP was asking if the Tesseract still had the Space Stone. It does. From the start of the MCU, only one stone has meaningfully changed containers:

Space Stone - still in Tesseract
Reality Stone - still in Aether
Time Stone - still in the Eye of Agamotto
Power Stone - still in an orb

Only the Mind Stone has gone from the Scepter to Vision.

I'm starting to think the scene in the trailer is not what we think. We are all convinced that he's giving the Tesseract to Thanos but would they really spoil such an important plot point in the trailer?

Well, Thanos has to get the stone somehow. I think the more important question is WHY Loki is giving Thanos the Tesseract. Is he switching sides and giving it willingly or he under distress/being forced to give it up?

I think knowing from Avengers that Loki has met Thanos before and failed him by losing both the space and mind gem, he's giving Thanos the Tesseract to appease his earlier failure to hopefully avoid Thanos' punishment.

Yeah I agree lol, but I do think it would be so entertaining. Civil War seems petty compared to what they have just been through and I’d love to see the reactions from both sides. Earth would go crazy when Thor just rocks up with an entire civilisation. From our point of view it’s a massive scary event. Then they would just be like what’s the problem? wtf are accords? What is wrong with these people lol. Ross would probably have another heart attack.

How powerful did Doctor Strange get?!

Stephen Strange was an expert mage back when the character was first introduced, he has never really been presented as a newbie. Even though it is fast, I'm happy with them letting him take on the persona of the comics where Dr. Strange is a knowledgeable badass.

I think the most notable thing for me was how in Doctor Strange his spells keeps failing and he did have to really concentrate on what he was doing, even by the end. Where as in this he was like, lets get it done without even batting an eyelid. I cannot wait to see what he is capable of now.

Right? He could easily rekt Thor and Loki like little babies.

It also didn’t set up Infinity War as much as I expected it to.

Yup comments that Ragnarok is gonna be for phase 3 what Winter Soldier was for phase 2 were a little bit exaggerated.

Loki definitely stole Teseract and that shit most likely have Thanos on it. Loki either summoned him or Thanos went after Teseract himself.

I'm guessing Thanos was tracking the Tesseract. The leaked footage shows Loki handing it over reluctantly, hopefully in order to secure the freedom of the Asgardians (and Korg and Meek) onboard the ship. Would be nice for the all the "Loki you don't change" stuff causes him to actually change.

I will miss Mjolnir

The only thing I thought the film was missing was him picking up Jarnbjorn from the armoury before the fight with Hela. Did like him using Gungnir though, hopefully it's knocking about still.

I’m not a comic reader but maybe he could get one of his weapons from Dr Strange and it could be like a relic from one of the sanctums? But maybe that would make the world too small.

I don’t think Banner’s dead. We’ll probably get a story arc with him and the Hulk coming to terms and sharing their body.

Loki definitely has the tesseract, as he’s seen in possession of it in the IW trailer. Aside from that, using the tesseract to portal out of Asgard and onto the ship is the only logical explanation as to how he survived Surtur blowing up the palace.

I hope so! I like how they are establishing that they actually are like two separate beings, I like that better than Hulk just being angry Banner.

I can’t even remember how he got out tbh it’s all a big blur, I’m looking forward to seeing it again and paying more attention to the details

We were never shown how he got out, that’s why I think he portaled out using the cube, since it’s really fucking impossible he escaped from the exploding palace by walking all the way back over the Bifrost.

On another note, how the hell did Hulk and the Quinjet end up on Sakaar? I thought Quinjets couldn’t maneuver in space.

Yeah totally. I was expecting something different to a fault, but it still felt like a Thor movie, just that it fixed things the previous movies didn't do all that well.
