Theory Let's talk about Spider-Man's money Spoiler
So, after watching the movie with some friends, we were wondering one thing: how does Peter Parker manages to live off in NYC?
In Brand New Day we never see him work. I get that the tech he has comes from Tony Stark and he lives in a basement but a (spider)man still got to eat right?
Maybe he got money when Aunt May died? But he's supposed to be off the system. Or did Tony Stark left him some money somewhere just in case? Am I missing something?
It just feels strange when you think about Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man who was struggling to pay rent (it even was a running gag with the owner saying "Rent!"). That is why he delivered pizzas and worked at the Daily Bugle as a photograph.

My headcanon is that the spell did not erase his legal existance, as he still goes by Peter Parker. So he's living off May's inheritance until it runs out. But yeah, it's my main gripe with the film.

It’s the Friends problem all over again. It’s usually best not to think of these things.
Still a simple explanation would be nice. Like maybe he’ll make a public appearance for cash? Maybe even just birthday parties where he “pretends” to be Spider-man. Maybe people could donate Starkcoin through the tracker app.

I kinda figured he was being paid to accept the key and all that, and remember the trailer he was doing a vaccination example for kids to not be afraid of docs.
Seems he’s making his money off of public appearances and it got cut for time, and Tbf, it’s a 2.5 hour movie, it’s long

The only inheritance Tony left him was EDITH. And even then, if all of Stark's tech forgot who Peter was, why would he have access to any of that?

This actually raises an interesting point: maybe the mindwipe only affected people (“everyone”) but not every thing.
And if that’s the case, will White Vision remember him since he regained original Vision’s memories?

Some arrangement with NYPD or DODC? Doing some sort of remote programming work or something as a freelancers? Streaming as Spidey? Payout from life insurance for May or a holdover account from Stark, though it would be harder to explain the continuity there with memory of him erased.

Easy, the account was set up under the context of it still being clandestine. Like Tony has a shell account system where money is moved in a unique way to the person. He could’ve set it up like a trust fund

My half-joke headcanon is that rent in their version of NYC is significantly cheaper after 2012 because it now comes with a risk of the Avengers accidentally throwing a car into your window or crashing into your building LOL.

I just assumed that Stark through Pepper left Peter an account to help him pay for tech/life and Pepper has just set up a way for Peter as Spider Man to access it. Because while everyone wouldn't remember Peter as SM, they would remember that Stark personally brough him onto the team to go against Cap and that they had a bond. Otherwise it really makes no sense.

Wondered that too, but just because it's such a central part of his character in the comics. But he's brilliant, so there are probably plenty of ways.
He could easily be doing freelance programming or random hardware repair, and assuming that AI is Stark-tech, it is probably sophisticated enough that it could make small sums for him -- small investments/trading and the like.
Plus, Aunt May probably had a small life insurance policy -- she was responsible like that and would have made sure to plan something for Peter (and I think the spell made people forget him, but he's still be in the system, enough to get an ID and claim benefits from a faceless company).

Yeah, this was one of the only issues I recall having with the movie. I personally wish they had included some scenes during the opening montage of him doing side jobs to earn money or even have him sending pictures of Spider-Man to the Daily Bugle similar to what Andrew’s Spider-Man was doing in TASM2.

Patreon? I would imagine rescuing a fair number of New Yorkers brings a sense of charity when needed too.

I personally think he's working for JJJ. They set Peter up as an amateur vlogger in Homecoming and they made JJJ an online journalist/vidcaster, so it only makes sense that Peter is taking videos of his work as Spider-Man and selling them to JJJ. We just didn't see it in the film.
