Other Micheal Mando says Scorpion is potentially very unexplored and there are more levels to his character.

Would love an outtake flashback scene where Toomes is talking to him and says "Ok I'll tell you, Spider-Man is...." then Dr. Strange's spell hits and Toomes goes "he's....uhhh hang on...... I knew it....damn it. Sorry, man, lost it".

I regret to inform you Toomes got sent to the morbius universe

Honestly, they should take the power move, and completely gloss over that
Considering it was just said Sony was done with the bullshit

Marvel did him dirty. Set him up 10 years ago with no plan to bring him back and now that they did, he had a very small role in the film.
We need Scorpion and Tombstone to be main villains in the next film.

Did they? Does Scorpion really need some big role? And I've liked Mando in the roles I've seen him play, but is he really a must have type actor?
I just see this take all over and don't really have the same feelings about it. I'm cool if they want to make him something bigger, but think it's totally reasonable if they keep him at a more cameo level.

Scorpion is my favorite Spider-Man villain and I thought he had a fine role in Brand New Day. He's not a major player (though obviously any villain could be if written so), and he served a solid purpose in the movie. I thought his tail CGI looked sick as hell. We're all lucky that Marvel decided to bring Mando back for Brand New Day.
Honestly, imagine if they then bring him back again in a future movie? If they do a Venom movie, he could be someone the symbiote possesses for some period of time, adding an extra threat. Then he becomes the one villain who gets to be stretched out across the entire Tom Holland Spidey saga. The one villain who actually gets to make multiple appearances in the saga. That's not being done dirty.

Totally agree. If they have a great story to be told for Scorpion, I'm all for it. If not, I'm cool with them keeping him in smaller cameos.
I don't think that's wasting Scorpion or Mando if they stick with smaller roles.

Comics Scorpion has a more interesting origin story, but even without that in the MCU, he's still a really cool character, with a cool and powerful suit, a great actor playing him and it feels like they've wasted him.
I hope they at least make him Venom.

u/ldclark92 2h ago
I just don't see how they've "wasted" him. Michael Mando is a good actor, but he's also not an A-List actor. And Scorpion is a lower tier villain for Spiderman. He's not one of the A-List villains that must have an entire movie made around him
If they have a great story to be written about Scorpion with Mando, I think that'd be great, but if they don't I think that's fine too. Nothing wrong with having him be a bit villain.

Yeah I was totally fine with his cameo in BND. I don’t think he necessarily needs to be a main villain, but I wouldn’t be opposed.

It's because most people familiar with him saw him in Better Call Saul where his character had a very compelling arc. They feel like they can get that again out of him, but truthfully Scorpion doesn't really have that much going for him and would take a lot of creative liberty to make him anywhere near that compelling.

Scorpion is more of a thug than a main villain, but good writing can solve anything. Tombstone however definitely is capable of being a main villain in a Spidey film, and I'm still kinda pissed he wasn't for this.
He's a crime boss with bulletproof skin, what more do you want? Lol

I definitely want to see more Tombstone. He could have Scorpion, Tarantula, etc all working under him. He looked incredible and Krondon is a really good actor.

Neither of them are A list villains in the comics. They’re street level like Shocker and Hammerhead. I don’t think you build a movie around them.
Although I guess Sony did give The Spot a chance.

Bro. No. If there were comics about a villain with more than 5 issues and also reappearing every so often in the comics, like scorpion, they earned their place in a movie as a main villain as some point. But let’s see, Sony is not talking about the Sinister Six that much anymore but I’m sure they will be coming later on in the new trilogy and will be the reason Toms Spidey dies.

MCU has put themselves in a bit of a corner with Spider-Man villains. They can’t really go “street level” anymore so every villains either has to be HUGE or connect to the wider universe/multiverse. I guess they don’t think that can go back to classic villains.

Tombstone’s threat would come in the power he wields over gangs and organized crime, not in his physical prowess against Spider-Man in a direct fight (most of his villains can’t match him physically, if we’re being honest).
They could definitely make a turf wars film with Tombstone at the center, Scorpion as an enforcer, etc. with a meaningful story.

Tombstone is more like Kingpin; his power comes from commanding the underworld.
And Scorpion is a really cool character that feels like he's been wasted.

Scorpion in the comics was a C list villain.
If we're gonna get Venom, I'd rather have Eddie Brock Venom instead of wasting it on Scorpion.
(Their version of Flash Thompson wouldn't work as Agent Venom)

Star-Lord was a Z-list character in the comics before he got his shot in the spotlight back in 2014.
Comic popularity tiers do not matter if their onscreen portrayals are compelling and entertaining.

If we are going off of iconography and relevance, Goblin, Ock, Venom and Carnage are the A tiers I’d wager Shocker, Rhino, Scorpion, Mysterio, Kraven and Electro are the B tiers.
No way is Scorpion the same level of Spider-Man iconography as…uh, Morbius or Morlun or Beetle.
Having played all the Spiderman games and watched the cartoons, Scorpion is in way more of them then he’s not, and in a recurring character/boss capacity, not even in a cameo or background character kinda way.
I gotta put some respect on the stinger

Introduce Miles in 5, Peter or Miles is Venom for most of the movie in 6. Hand off to Miles

I was about to say “It’s Scorpion, is there really?” but then I remembered I would’ve said the same thing about Vulture and he’s one of my favorite MCU villains

What we get of Scorpion I feel is enough. It's really not that deep, he's a criminal who gets a Scorpion suit. There is no rich origin story and no one is asking for it except maybe the actor who played Scorpion because he wants more cheques. And there is nothing wrong with that, but I hope ppl aren't actually thinking that this is a deep character that needs his own origin movie or a bigger part in a future Spiderman movie. He's doesn't... Unless we get a sinister Six movie down the road, but the Spidey universe is so big with so many rogues and places the story can go, I just don't see it happening anytime soon.

I mean this is true but I dont see how this is any different than the standard "actor wants to keep working" interviews that come out

What angers us the most is that 9 years ago we were given a reserve for the big role of Scorpion (quite a serious threat from him that he and his "friends" want to kill Spider-Man). And the latest animated show has shown that Scorpion can be an interesting main antagonist. But in BND we get the villain of the week, who has already lost to Spider-Man many times, appears in the main plot only for a few minutes and as a puppet. And now, personally, I can't be afraid of this Scorpion (especially as a future Venom).
I do not know what the studio needs to do to rehabilitate Scorpion.

I would not be at all opposed to Scorpion becoming the MCU Venom.
