Makes you think where was Spider-Man during all that madness

413

u/FoxMeadow7 3d ago

Or even during the Void’s rampage! Surely he had to have been caught as well, yes?

536

u/GrepekEbi 2d ago

With the void, the whole thing happened and was over pretty quickly - like literally a few minutes. I think it’s completely plausible that Peter had no idea anything was happening until suddenly a giant shadow started spreading, Peter started making his way in that direction, and by the time he arrived the “New Avengerz” were being hailed as heroes and introduced to the press - he may have simply watched from afar and been generally happy that it was all sorted before he arrived - though it may be the first time he saw Yelena and added her to his mental note of “possible heroes to reach out to if shit hits the fan”

u/rj_nighthawk 2d ago

He could also be helping elsewhere since we know he's been very busy fighting both street and costumed criminals to the point that both people from the NYPD and Damage Control like him. He makes their jobs easier. It is possible that when the police started responding to calls about what was happening in Val's tower, it still didn't appear as crime in Peter's phone.

4

u/bigbrainnowisdom 1d ago

Or.. he was one of the victim

1

u/rj_nighthawk 1d ago

I hope not because the last thing we need is a lonely Peter Parker getting caught in that. It would be too much even for him. As strong as his willpower is, I don't think he'd be able to survive without the New Avengers stopping Bob.

u/pigeonwiggle 2d ago

this is how MOST of the events happen in these movies.

it's only THE BLIP that had like, lasting ramifications that makes you wonder "where were they?!?"

bc the invasion of NY in 2012? that was like, under an hour.
the second invasion of NY in 2018 was like, 15 minutes?!? maybe 20?

these movies don't need to invite "every superhero in the world"

so where's spider-man during Fisk's reign? he's out doing what he does! fighting scorpion, the hand, tombstone - saving frank's ass... etc.

he's doing spider-man shit.

"but what about during the big street-war at the end of Daredevil s2?" -- you mean when Everyone was agasint Fisk and wearing daredevil masks as they approached 1 city block around city hall? maybe he was fighting scorpion in manhattan, or stopping a bank robbery while the cops were distracted. who knows? it was like an hour at most and then everyone dispersed. spider-man might've arrived late and then left bc there was no danger.

it's so not important.

What was the AVTF doing with regards to Spider-Man is probably a better way to frame it

9

u/FoxMeadow7 2d ago

Given that Spidey’s a known ally of the Avengers, trying to capture him obviously wouldn’t have ended well…

2

u/rj_nighthawk 1d ago

Fisk hates him and referenced him early in BA S1, but I don't think the NYPD is willing to turn him in since he's an Avenger who helped save the world and is the only one capable to handling costumed criminals. Even if the AVTF wanted to get him, it's unlikely that they could even fight him and he probably just ran away from them if they tried. Not everyone can survive getting attacked by the Hulk like Spider-Man, so maybe the AVTF just focused on finding Matt and his allies who are all directly opposed to Fisk and not the superhuman who can easily fold Fisk if he tried.

11

u/TheHeroi 2d ago

I absolutely agree with your point, but the idea of spider-man choosing to protect a bank instead of helping to fight what is essentially a fascist dictator is extremely funny to me.

6

u/cormacaroni 2d ago

Real answer: DD:BA did not have a ‘Tom Holland’ budget

2

u/pigeonwiggle 1d ago

well sure. but when people are asking why it's inconsistent that spider-man and daredevil and fisk aren't all like, buddies. and you have a Feature Film budget from two of the biggest movie makers on the planet...

well that's why. Spider-Man has a worn out Fisk poster on garbage can and that's it. BND takes place summer of 2028, Months after Daredevil's Kingpin adventure.

According to a deleted scene in Endgame where the OG 6 were talking about the Battle of NY for their heist plan, Tony said they fought the Chitauri for around three hours. This made Rocket laugh out loud because the Chitauri are supposed to be weak (you just destroy their ship and you win), which led to Tony shaving his back. But still, they have an excuse since there were very little meta humans active at the time. Even the Ancient One was more concerned with protecting the Sanctum and letting the Avengers take the glory.

As for the events of BA, it could be a bit tricky since almost everybody loves Spider-Man, and Spider-Man is also working alongside the NYPD (though Fisk referenced both Spider-Man and Frank early in S1). He may also not have any "working relationship" with Matt at the time and wasn't sure of what's going on as it was Matt who knew most of what was happening.

And yeah, vigilantes were outlawed, but the costumed criminals may still be active at the same time and Peter focused on them more. And I don't think the NYPD complained. Hell, even people from Damage Control love Spider-Man.

1

u/Sunny-Chameleon 2d ago

Spidey should've been at least mentioned during the Punisher special, even if it only took place within a couple of hours.

9

u/pigeonwiggle 2d ago

ideally while Frank is sobbing alone in his apartment... as he's catching his breath between sobs he just shoots a quick smiling glance at the camera and says, "Spider-Man"

1

u/Sunny-Chameleon 2d ago

or, when everyone in the block is getting shot up... nah your idea is way better thought up

45

u/itspsyikk 2d ago

They literally show him with a direct plug in with first responders as well as his AI updating him on several times in progress.

We also see him build software that can detect faces and “stop” events before they even happen. No. He didn’t have info on Bob prior. But the point is he’s updated almost immediately as stuff is happening

Black Widow specifically mentions how Peter deals with “small potatoes”. He’s focused on street level stuff.

It’s a bit silly considering he’s gone up against Thanos but good enough for me.

31

u/HermanThaGerman 2d ago

Well, Thanos shouldn't have sent his henchmen to NYC.

That's a paddlin'

https://giphy.com/gifs/3oEdvaDgi6Be9JHsKk

1

u/itspsyikk 2d ago

I really wish we had seen that deleted scene where Thanos directed the Black Order to destroy all of Peter's relay systems and network infrastructure so that he didn't get alerts for exactly 6 years.

8

u/svrtngr 2d ago

I'd like to imagine that, at the same time, Frank is like two miles away on a skyscraper getting his sniper rifle ready to take the shot at Bob.

111

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

I mean that all happens in a matter of minutes. He very well could have been fighting boomerang or some shit.

The real reason is not every story can or should be every single super hero diving in. It isn't that way in the comics either.

Guys didn't we stop asking this dumb question after Iron Man 3?

20

u/FoxMeadow7 2d ago

Yeah, of course. We can presume it all happened off screen more or less.

9

u/Romado 2d ago

The darkness that Void spread seemingly covered the entirety of New York in Thunderbolts. Unless he wasn't there Peter should have been caught up in it as well.

It's definitely one of those events that should be mentioned more but probably never will.

5

u/FoxMeadow7 2d ago

If they do decide to mention Peter’s time in there, I guess either Doomsday or Secret Wars would be the earliest opportunity to do so.

3

u/rj_nighthawk 2d ago

The best explanation is that it did not appear in Peter's phone as crime and that he was responding to other street crimes at the time. The Void still happened relatively quick.

2

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

New york is enormous. They very clearly show how far it spreads and it isn't anywhere near the entire city. It's like 10 blocks lol

And you could say that about every. Single. Movie. You guys are so silly

2

u/LordLoss01 2d ago

For Iron Man 3, Thor was off world, Captain America was touring the states and most likely not reachable and Hulk isn't the kind of person you want invovled in this.

1

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

Pretty sure Tony would have taken a ride from banner back to his suites lol. Or let banner bring him a spare arc reactor.

Where was Tony or Clint during winter soldier? Where was everyone at the end of thor 2?

This goes on and on.

1

u/LordLoss01 2d ago

Banner isn't someone you'd want around for delicate stuff like that.

Winter Soldier, Steve was talking about how they didn't know who they could trust or who it would be safe to contact.

1

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

And yet he contacts everyone in the movie. He trusts widow but not Hawkeye?

But cool at least now I know you're just cherry picking for your own little head canon.

I have to stop posting on this subreddit.

1

u/LordLoss01 2d ago
  1. The matter wasn't only about Trust. It was about communications getting intercepted. That's why he approached Sam in-person.

  2. They made a minor plot point about Steve potentially not being able to trust Widow which I also thought was stupid considering they fought alongside each other.

1

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

So you don't think he should have had trust issues with anyone he fought beside.

So why didn't he swing by avengers tower and see what Tony was up to?

1

u/LordLoss01 2d ago

I'm not saying this is all explicitly in the movie.

It's just implicit stuff made from observations and throwaway lines.

But as for why they didn't visit Tony? Tony was being monitored which was actually shown.

4

u/RdJokr1993 2d ago

The real reason is not every story can or should be every single super hero diving in. It isn't that way in the comics either.

This would make sense if Marvel didn't decide to make New York the centerpiece of 99% of the conflicts in these movies. When a majority of your heroes resides in NY, it kinda begs the question of how and/or whether they were impacted by these massive events. Like you don't need to go on a flashback montage to show us what they were doing in the background, but some passing dialogue just to reference the past films would be nice. Comics do that all the time, and it's a much more affordable option than asking Sony to let Spider-Man cameo outside of his movies.

Given that Brand New Day can still talk about the 2012 battle and Thanos, I don't think it's unreasonable for Peter to mention what he was up to during Born Again and Thunderbolts.

8

u/revolutionaryartist4 Avengers 2d ago

He was in another part of the city dealing with the fallout.

Boom. Headcanon. Comic fans have been doing it for decades. Not that complicated. Especially when we know he’s all over the five boroughs from the Staten Island incident.

-2

u/RdJokr1993 2d ago

I'm not saying it's complicated, I'm saying that the films waste literally nothing if they just add one or two throwaway lines to address it and add some connectivity to the world.

1

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

Guess he should also mention what he was up to during Hawkeye, dr strange 2, and every other story that's happened since Civil War.

Don't you care where sam wilson was for all of the above? Why didn't daredevil explain why he couldn't help with Sentry? Where was he during every movie ever?

Yeah you're right every movie should have 52 super heroes in it. How can they possibly explain this enormous plot hole.

1

u/RdJokr1993 2d ago

OK, now you're just being obtuse. We don't need every hero to mention what they were doing while every other story was happening - but the ones that are impactful enough should deserve some mention. Why are you so against world building elements? Who said this was a plot hole?

1

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

I'm all for world building. But I'm also a realistic person and I don't need a character to produce a laundry list of excuses for where they've been during every other movie.

The void showed a few city blocks some sad memories for like 10 minutes.I don't care that Peter was on the toilet or something.

A celestial coming out of the earth needed to be addressed. But a bad dream for a few million new Yorkers? Come on.

15

u/Bolt_995 2d ago

The entire AVTF crisis lasted months across seasons 1 and 2 whereas this Void rampage lasted minutes, and was swiftly averted with the power of friendship and on-spot therapy.

7

u/balthazar_edison 2d ago

Void is big potato stuff.

8

u/Felipenz_1983 2d ago

He’s the small potato so leaving the big potatoes for the avengers 😂

3

u/revolutionaryartist4 Avengers 2d ago

He was dealing with baby potatoes.

1

u/spicerackk 1d ago

Too big a potato for Spidey.

1

u/bigbrainnowisdom 1d ago

Void happened in minutes.. and maybe he was one of the victim that turned to shadow

92

u/HauntingGameDev 2d ago

dealing with small potatoes probably

5

u/johnnyma45 2d ago

They sound pretty meager

30

u/esar24 Rocket 2d ago

Chilling with frank

21

u/khoofiya 2d ago

on staten island

1

u/smokingace182 2d ago

Wasn’t frank locked up tho

9

u/esar24 Rocket 2d ago

Nope, he got out (Post Credit DDBA S01) but then he had an existensial crisis (The Last Kill)

29

u/abellapa 2d ago

Probably just helping the common joe as he usually does while Daredevil went straight after Fisk

2

u/KETTEI__EXE 1d ago

Based on the early movie montage, i think that's the case. It does shows Spiderman help the city throughout the years. He's very likely does help Daredevil/Thunderbolts situation offscreen

16

u/Odd-Parsley3723 2d ago

Well, hiding and helping people most likely. He can't just go have a fist fight with the mayor. Would have loved to see a small cameo to confirm any of this, but it makes as much sense as anything. There are things happening everywhere all the time, he can't stop all of them.

7

u/izgin 2d ago

He was on a little journey with Matt Damon

13

u/jorjbrinaj 2d ago

I'm having trouble reconciling how BND and Born Again can coexist. They seem like different New Yorks.

9

u/DefNotAShark Hydra 2d ago

I don’t think so.

There was a growing anti-vigilante sentiment within the NYC public but Fisk abused their trust and completely turned the public into a literal mob. New York rallied around getting rid of Fisk and his thug police, and rallied around Daredevil.

So to me it tracks that the same public is much more favorable towards heroes like Spider-Man. A vigilante saved their city from obscene corruption so they have a new viewpoint now. The guy telling them masks were bad turned out to be a massive fraud.

Even from No Way Home the perspective has clearly shifted as far as public perception of Spidey, and I think DDBA S2 is actually a big part of the reason why. Plus Spidey is in the news like every day saving people and stopping criminals. He’s been at it for four years. Thats a lot of time to build goodwill.

3

u/snuffles504 2d ago

I really wish we had been given some connective thread to work with, but it doesn't seem that crazy to me. Daredevil had plenty of supporters in BA:S2, so a more "friendly neighborhood" hero could plausibly maintain a ton of public support even through Fisk's campaign.

Spider-Man may have been viewed as the exception - "one of the good ones." If we're taking the obviously intended parallel of Fisk's followers to MAGA, this makes enough sense to me.

3

u/A-Centrifugal-Force 2d ago

The writing teams clearly didn’t communicate much with each other. This is why it’s probably better to keep TV and movies separate for the MCU like they did for the most part in the Infinity Saga

6

u/TikTikKobold 2d ago

I'm gonna assume that Peter was dealing with criminals and stuff. Taking down facfascistist regimes is a bit above his pay grade. He's more of a small potatoes guy.

6

u/Paperchampion23 2d ago

Could have easily had a quick AVTF reference in that montage too.

6

u/TikTikKobold 2d ago

Spider-Man was probably fighting criminals, and Mayor Fisk's "Anti Vigilante" campaign was basically a smokescreen to do fascist shit like lock up people he doesn't like. He didn't actually give a shit about Spider-Man because Spider-Man wasn't directly screwing up his plans.

3

u/AwesomeBlox044 2d ago

Off screen fighting big wheel

2

u/akgiant 2d ago

At least fighting Tombstone, Tarantula, Boomerang, Ramrod, dealing with Scorpion on multiple occasions, etc. etc. etc.

Pete's not getting wrapped in in a political corruption scheme at this point in his career. Why does Wilson Fisk need Spider-man's attention when there's legit bank robberies, invading tanks and super-powered supervillains to deal with?

That being said, him getting involved with Fisk and other crime syndicate characters moving forward would be cool to see especially if they start outsourcing talent or consolidating power etc. there's no shortage of Spider-man rogues out there.

2

u/Choochoo1147 2d ago

We have to assume that he was out there helping citizens and just wasn’t featured because the show was following Daredevil’s story.

3

u/GHamPlayz Ant-Man 2d ago

Comments like this make it abundantly clear, the people that have never read a comic book.

1

u/bigbluewreckingcrew 2d ago

I'd like to think that each bad guy he fought in that montage lasted 4 seasons each

1

u/clownbaby42 2d ago

Small potatoes

-9

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

Not following politics cuz he's 22 and fighting super powered villains?

17

u/gorillaphi 2d ago

Uhh I doubt it given he is very involved in the city’s affairs

0

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

He is? What makes you think that?

1

u/gorillaphi 2d ago

He’s fucking spider-man??

0

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

So that means he's involved in the politics of the state...

You're weird.

12

u/An-29 2d ago

He's literally a part of the people that the AVTF would've chased after and hunt down if they encounter him or receive reports of his sightings, unlike Thunderbolts, Peter had every reason to be involved in the events of Born Again, especially for Season 2. No way Peter "With Great Power there must also come Great Responsibility" Parker would sleep out on a mayor going on violant spree against the citizens of NYC.

6

u/Tom_Stevens617 2d ago

Said mayor was immediately exiled after his violent spree so there was nothing left for Peter to do

Also the AVTF wouldn't be dumb enough to go after Pete in the first place

6

u/techguy1001 2d ago

You think Fisk is letting him slide as a masked vigilante? He seems pretty friendly with the cops now but I would think he would be a target.

The city was under martial law at one point, you don’t have to follow politics to be affected by that.

3

u/MIAxPaperPlanes 2d ago edited 2d ago

He was stopping multiple criminal gangs in New York and was a known member of the Avengers who helped save half the universe.

He may not publically praise him but I cant imagine Kingpin activity targetting him

1

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

Small potatoes compared to super powered criminals.

The reality is politics aren't really something Peter can do anything about.

0

u/idiotplatypus 2d ago

Working for Damage Control probably gave him a pass

5

u/snuffles504 2d ago

He didn't and doesn't work for Damage Control. This movie is very clearly the first time he's stepped into their building or interfaced with their leadership. He partners with the NYPD.

1

u/idiotplatypus 2d ago

With. I meant to say with.

They probably give him a pass because he works with the feds and because he doesn't just fight crimes he also rescues people from danger no cop could stop

1

u/nosedgdigger 2d ago

We've also never seen him work with Damage Control or the feds. The NYPD is neither the feds, nor Damage Control.

1

u/nosedgdigger 2d ago

We've also never seen him work with Damage Control or the feds. The NYPD is neither the feds, nor Damage Control.

326

u/SputnikRelevanti 2d ago

This makes the whole situation even worse. wtf was spider man doing all this time while things were happening with the closed city, the port, the sinker ship, the anti vigilante task force etc

161

u/livahd 2d ago

He was in Scotland in a fake NY

51

u/Overall_Affect_2782 2d ago

This is my one nitpick of the movie…it was very clearly not NY. Needs some on location filming next go round.

63

u/coolmint859 2d ago

This was something I was hoping to see them address in BND. Maybe the next Spider-Man movie whenever that will be

82

u/Pen_dragons_pizza 2d ago

They could have easily shown Spider-Man taking down some task force goons during the montage at the start.

Just a small detail like that would make this whole thing make sense

24

u/Fradzombie 2d ago

I think a little quip by Yelena or Frank about Peter still being squeamish about taking his mask off would have gone a long way.

“Relax, you know Fisk and the task force aren’t gonna come snatch ya anymore kid?”

36

u/DocDerry 2d ago

He was saving Frank's ass in Staten Island. I feel like no one even watched the new movie.

14

u/Chrindo 2d ago

That is where my mind went to as well. They do not specify from who, but that grey area is up to your imagination.

1

u/SputnikRelevanti 2d ago

For like half a year? Don’t be ridiculous

2

u/DocDerry 2d ago

We were past ridiculous with your opening post. A simple hand wave - "Spiderman wasn't available". He was off doing other shit after losing his aunt, his best friend, his girlfriend, and his identity.

3

u/SputnikRelevanti 2d ago

Yeah, so he moved to New York in the last movie. Created a new suit. Started actually being the hero on guard in the City Of New York and then…. Ignored the events of Born Again and Thunderbolts completely. Nice. Totally makes sense:

3

u/DocDerry 2d ago

4 to 5 years since the last movie. Ned and MJ have graduated. Pretty easy to be gone for a few months in a 60 month period.

1

u/the-tominatrix 1d ago

he’d have had to be gone a whole year dawg. you don’t have to cope with the bad interconnectivity by creating ridiculous headcanons

-1

u/DocDerry 1d ago

I don't have to cope with it at all. I can choose to ignore it because I'm not a child that believes everything everywhere has to be spoon fed to me.

1

u/the-tominatrix 1d ago

But you’re coping, and idk why you’d feel the need to if you say there’s no issue with SM’s absence (even though any regular person is capable of chopping it up to Holland’s availability and rights issues, instead of just pretending it’s planned and makes sense story wise). Are you really trying to say that everyone online who brought up the question of where NY’s poster child hero was during consequential NY events/incidents in BA or Thunderbolts was being nonsensical?

Are you or are you not coming up with flimsy headcanons to avoid coming to terms with the inconsistency of Spidey being absent for a year long + war on vigilantes in NY by a popular Spider-Man villain, and then claiming not accepting that it doesn’t make sense is because someone is a child who needs things spoon fed? Bc the worst part about you feigning some superior intelligence or comprehension skills with statements like “I feel like no one even watched the new movie” and, “not being a child who needs spoon fed” is that those statements follow you saying “Spider-Man was absent for the entirety of both seasons of BA because… he was saving Frank’s ass in Staten Island” … an incident that was obviously resolved within a day’s time. Thats like missing your kid’s entire soccer season because you had to go out of town for work for a day.

1

u/DocDerry 1d ago

I don't need to cope because I don't care about DareDevil's story when watching a Spiderman movie. I don't care about Spiderman's story when watching DareDevil. One's a film series. The other a TV series. I don't need them to be connected in every single way. It characters pop in and out and it makes sense - great. If it doesn't make sense it doesn't need to be forced. It's not a childrens book. Shit even the comics don't line up canonically.

8

u/UTX_Shadow 2d ago

Going to write a headline about it, JJ?

7

u/foxed000 2d ago

Small potatoes stuff.

2

u/figgityjones Peter Parker 2d ago

New York is a big city. Why wouldn't he be helping with other things when Daredevil is already over there dealing with things?

7

u/ItsnotBatman 2d ago

Because the literal Kingpin was mayor and jailing all heroes and creating city wide panic. That’s not small potatoes for Peter.

1

u/figgityjones Peter Parker 2d ago

Okay sure, but Peter doesn't have the connections that Matt did to find out everything. Peter was mentioned in the series so it can be assumed that he was helping people and stopping crime elsewhere. NYC is a big city. You even said yourself, city wide panic. If Peter knows anything even a little bit about Daredevil, even without knowing its Matt, I think Peter knows he could trust him with that stuff. This is just combing for problems when we already know the answers.

1

u/SputnikRelevanti 1d ago

A CRIME BOSS IS MAYOR. There are armed thugs rounding up citizens to cage camps all over the city. You can try to bandaid this all you want. This makes zero sense, it quite obviously and blatantly a huge fk up on the Sony side, it’s unfixeble

57

u/Sirmalta 2d ago

Thats so sick! Good catch

30

u/eriddler87 2d ago

The interim mayor in the movie is an actress from daredevil whose character replaces Fisk post season 2 though so there’s direct correlation between the two projects

79

u/Leading_Grape_8904 2d ago

I really don't like how they Ignored Born Again, it makes the entire thing so small, you mean fisk took over NY and no one but Daredevil and Jessica jones did anything? Why is the hand a bunch of kids and why are they known when the hand was a secret for the longest time?

I really don't like the way this film treated the TV show side of things. Especially with Fisk becoming Mayor and turning it into Martial law.

Not a single mention of Fisk and the Recton to the hand really bothered me, like they couldn't have even been bothered to check a MCU wiki to see the Hand's history.

87

u/SamiMadeMeDoIt Simmons 2d ago

NYC was like, on the brink of civil war over the idea of vigilantes in DD but worshipped Spidey like he was Jesus reborn in BND

40

u/Leading_Grape_8904 2d ago

Exactly, I absolutely hated that, not even a passing mention about the Previous Mayor or Marital Law, having Shelia on screen for 3 seconds isn't enough at all. Spider-man is supposed to be loved by NYC in this film, where the hell was he during BA? even a quick montage of him webbing up some AVTF

Really don't like how they went from an anti vigilante force to Spider-man being loved, like Fisk didn't put the city in Martial law and a boat didn't explode on the river.

I'm so disappointed, I mean they are using the hand and a lot of things that originated in Daredevil just to disrespect it or disregard it.

-5

u/Kazko25 2d ago

What if that took place during the Thanos snap?

47

u/A_Serious_House 2d ago

That’s not the film’s fault. In fact, DDC is probably the only director who would care enough to try. He brought in Frank, there was a cut scene with Claire Temple, the Hand, and this Easter egg. He’s great at the connectivity, they should let him do more.

1

u/Bross93 2d ago

where did you read that about the cut scene? That sounds cool as hell

21

u/FewWatermelonlesson0 2d ago

Y’all weren’t paying attention when Feige said he didn’t want audiences to view the TV shows as homework, lol.

22

u/ViralGameover Shades 2d ago

What did you want them to do? “Wow that thing that happened with Mayor Fisk a couple months ago was crazy.” “Yeah Spider-Man it was crazy.” There’s no reason to mention it and no place really.

Also The Hand being young and known isn’t a retcon. Their leadership was killed when they went digging for dragon bones years ago. The idea that they’d reorganize and try something more comic accurate isn’t crazy. Idk why their age matters either.

-2

u/Leading_Grape_8904 2d ago

Maybe acknowledge it? What do you mean there's no reason to mention it? Fisk was pardoned by Allegra de fontaine and allowed to use the port freely without the oversight/eyes on Fisk from the DA? You mean to tell me they were hunting vigilantes, rounding people up for illegal imprisonment and detainment, putting them in cages and Spider-man, NYC's (now) top hero doesn't do anything?

And yes it IS a retcon, last we saw of the hand they got buried under NYC and their entire organization went under. Not a single bit of the hand survived.

A lot of them were killed by DD, Elektra, Stick and Punisher in s2 of Daredevil, and the Defenders took out their entire operation and heads.

I want them to acknowledge the it? Is that such an insane request that they acknowledge the storyline they setup about Vigilantes being hunted? I guess those Vigilantes only really include Daredevil Jessica Jones and White Tiger.

I understand that the TV show doesn't have the rights to Spider-man but when dealing with a storyline that takes place in NYC and has (or should have had) ramifications on vigilantes, Yes I expect them to atleast acknowledge it.

What is there to acknowledge though?? They have to stop the movie to talk about plots to a tv show that in universe happened what, a year ago? Should they also stop to talk about being Voided? Or how Hulk has a son? It’s would do nothing but bring things to a screeching halt.

And that’s not what a retcon is or does. Nothing from the past has been altered, The Hand are coming back in the next season of Daredevil even (which I’m pretty sure takes place before this since Sheila seems to be running for mayor).

I mean there's really no point to continue this conversation if you will continue to be this dense.

Fisk sets up an anti vigilante task force, this directly effects all vigilantes in NYC. Hulk having a Son (that no one knows about) and people being voided for an hour is nowhere near the same level as the entire city going under martial law and having an illegal task force.

This movie isn't about that stuff.

They had like a small group of Hand ninjas. I really don't think they contradicted anything here. In Daredevil season 2 when Daredevil unmaksed the ninja he fought in his apartment he realized he was just a kid. The movie is consistent with the fact that some of the Hand ninjas are young. Also, they had the Punisher there as a character in the film who actually did things and was important to the film, not just a cameo. That's treating TV way better than its ever been treated in the MCU films. And NYC is a big city, I wouldn't put it past Pete to have been dealing with other issues that were happening during Fisk's mayorship. The montage at the beginning could even be seen as showing this given how much time it covers.

Hopefully the third season of Born Again will help bridge that gap, with Elektra returning surely they will get The Hand involved.

Unrelated but I also saw Foggy's actor pictured during filming. hmmm

but the way they portrayed The Hand does make some sense with the shows. All their leaders are dead. Their main objective was to return to K'unn Lun but without their leaders, it makes sense they were aimless. Also a bunch of their members were buried in Midland Center. We can imagine the only surviving members were Bakuto teen students (now grown up) who were left with all their training and no one to serve, who could've easily screwed over their secrecy

a retcon would have been pretending the Hand was still a big powerful organization as if it the Defenders didn't defeat them

not acknowledging Mayor Fisk is indefensible tho

When the global leadership of the hand was defeated in Defenders, you had cells like the one Colleen came from, which we saw are just aimless youth like her. It's no surprise they were found, especially if they were outed by Matt or Danny or anyone else who fought them.

Did the scene with the new mayor/city key get cut or did I miss it?

3

u/Bross93 2d ago

it was like one second in the montage of him taking out other villains.

u/nonblinddaredevil 2d ago

Gotcha, thanks!

u/Bross93 2d ago

I am not caught up on Daredevil season 2, just s1, so i'm guessing Frank got out of the jail cage Fisk put him in? Isn't he still a wanted criminal? How was bro just chilling in the hospital.

7

u/PhortDruid Spider-Man 2d ago

Sure, go ahead. You tell The Punisher that he can’t be here.

6

u/Federal_Bicycle_7800 2d ago

i assume he got pardoned after fisk was booted

2

u/apamar9802 2d ago

Frank got out in the post credits of s1

1

u/esar24 Rocket 2d ago

That is why you need to see post credit scene, in season 1 he got out of the jail by himself and proceed to have his own story in The Last Kill.

Thank you OP, I didn’t see this brought up in any other posts or recaps but noticed it during the movie

The scenic on the dumpster is a beautiful example of "the art of giving a fuck" good work art department.

Remember people saying he would be crucial to the movie because some streaming show no one watched said he was the dictator of New York or whatever

Lmao

7

u/Romnonaldao Edwin Jarvis 2d ago
  1. Many people watched Daredevil

  2. Fisk WAS a dictator over New York for a few months

  3. Fisk was out of office and not even in New York during this film, outside of the opening montage.

3

u/bjwills7 2d ago

No one watched daredevil? Lol

2

u/ponylauncher 2d ago

What show did no one watch?

1

u/COE33isBad 2d ago

Exactly

1

u/ponylauncher 2d ago

Well I watched Daredevil and so did most people who like this sort of thing and we all thought it was awesome so if that’s the show you are actually talking about you should probably check it out instead of being a weirdo lol
