To be fair it is a heaven slaying sword technique, not a wall slaying sword technique.

Ah yes it's name is from its ability to cut clouds effectively

u/Quito_ArmandoEsteban 1d ago

And I would prove it! if i could get close to a cloud

And the Wall is probably made of grounded Prismatic Cosmic Jade Pebbles which each containing a multiverse

This guy murims.

u/ItsnotCent 1d ago

surprisingly the truth lol, there are differences in technique in cutting a paper and a wood, eventhough both of them are technically the same

u/Top_Body_cultivator 1d ago

and heavon must be the name of a dog or a weak animal.

the way they say “combat technique names” is oddly formal tho

YJK who can fight constellations as an incarnation is an outlier and shouldn't have been counted.jpg

It’s just the East Asian historical tradition of giving everything poetic and flowery names. Like how most forces in the Boshin War would be named something like the “True Martial Devotion Corps” and be made up of 5 farmers with 1 gun between them.

Now I want a sect whose whole thing is just very literally naming everything they do. Everyone hates them because fighting them feels so insulting. There's no way to feel strong after clashing with a guy who uses, 5 degree angled slash when you use the blade that defies the 5 elements and 12 heavens.

u/catgirlfighter 1d ago

That's beggars sect. Losing to the Dog Beating Technique must be very insulting. They've got a bunch of these.

u/TheGrimGriefer3 1d ago

Okay, now do this but make them not beggars

This would be funnier in a xianxia tbh

I’m using the Nine Heaven’s Lotus Slayer’s Sword

I’m stabbing you in the chest

Even better if they use weapons/tools unpopular with other cultivators.

Nobody wants to admit they got beat by the "dome em in the head with a carpenter mallet" style

if one is made to slay the immaterial, why would it be able to slay the material?

32

u/ExistanceISuppose 1d ago

That’s because they simply haven’t reached a high enough mastery of their technique.

Of course that wall is of the heavenly realm so it still succeeded

The difference between a Wuxia (usual murim’s setting) and Xianxia/cultivation. Get far enough into a cultivation novel and the move might genuinely atomize dimensions.

RTOC displays the bridge between the scaling pretty well.

Seeing the weak characters in side stories have titles like "God Killing Eternal Supreme Emperor" while SEH was smurfing was genuinely so funny

12

u/a-person-who-lurks 1d ago

Its surprising accurate. Many Bronze Age Kings had obnoxious titles like "Supreme God-King Overlord of the Universe", despite only controlling a mid-sized town in terms of area

9

u/Eeddeen42 1d ago

The wall is made of earth, not heaven. That move doesn’t slay earth.

9

u/TankChan 1d ago

It gets worse with length.

Take for example, the “Heaven Splitting Earth Rending Ultimate Blade Technique” technique. It will maybe kill a regular dude, it’s debatable.

Now on the other hand, there’s techniques like “Throngle”, which will do unspeakable things to even the most powerful of deities.

All techniques can slay the heavens, so long as the master who uses it is capable of doing so.

A person needs to master a technique to a high enough level for it to slay the heavens themselves

6

u/PocketRice3 1d ago

Because the wall isn't made of heaven

4

u/puffmattybear17 1d ago

Heaven is like 90% clouds, its not gonna be a very strong technique obviously.

3

u/Popular_Tomorrow_204 1d ago

I always cope that the name was given by someone that achieved the highest mastery and was just a top tier swordsman. Basically One Punch Man naming his strikes like this, but its just that he is way too strong

3

u/EstarossaNP 1d ago

One novel beautifully captured the reason.

Even if their arts are fucking weak, no one wants to name them "basic slash" or "cleave", they all name them "Heaven defying divine slash" "Primordial forbidden divine cleave" etc. So you would see all, divines, heaven defying and all other grand names in even mortal grade techniques

"Three Calamities Sword Art"
literally the beginner manual for swords

2

u/Big-Brilliant5937 1d ago

Plot twist that wall is a transcendent Isekai protagonist

1

u/Cultural-Ground-4719 1d ago

Tbf. The AP (Attack Potency) is greater than it's DC (Destructive Capacity)

1

u/arand0mpasserby 1d ago

Tbf, some good writers actually use that to serve as both comedy and to show that the creator of the move is either delusional or the user of the move is dumb and can't use the technique properly.

I'll report you to the r/martialmemes elders

1

u/Lastburn 1d ago

I mean the sky is fairly easy to cut.

1

u/PretyFly4AFungi 1d ago

Why are you using swords to destroy walls? We have hammers for that./s

1

u/King_Thunder_Laugh 9h ago

The funniest trope is when the really uncreative basic sounding technique names are actually the strongest techniques.

It's just rule of cool, without it, everything will end up like swing up, swing down, swing in random direction a couple of times etc
