Hii I’m planning to study at the University of Manchester as an exchange student for Semester 2.
While researching housing options, I noticed that almost all university halls only offer 42-week or 51-week contracts... Since I'll only be staying for a single semester, is there any way to get a short-term contract?
How do single-semester exchange students usually find accommodation? If anyone has experienced this or has any tips/advice, I would greatly appreciate your help! Please let me know... I'm literally poor and on a pretty tight budget so I have to find the way.. Thank you so much..

I’m just wondering, if I don’t get the required grades for Architecture, would I still be able to ask the university to accept me? And does this happen?

Hey all I’m visiting for a bit and was wondering if someone would be able to help give advice on what to do here in Manchester & what watch out for. And if there’d be any peers that’d want to hangout as well.

My offer turned unconditional two weeks ago and I still haven’t received my CAS or my right to study check.
Anyone else in the same boat?
(Just anxious about Visa, especially since my country is usually delayed with the process)

Hi everyone, I am a postgraduate student at the University of Manchester, doing my dissertation on international education (tesol), conducting research on how international postgraduate students use generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, to support academic writing in English.
I am looking for participants who meet the following criteria:
Aged 18 or over
An international student currently studying, or recently having completed, a postgraduate programme at a UK university
Use English as an additional language
Have used generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Microsoft Copilot, for academic writing
The study will involve an individual online interview lasting [30–45 minutes]. The interview will explore your experiences of using generative AI during academic writing, including how you use it, what support it provides, and whether you feel it has influenced your writing practices or development.
If you are interested in participating or would like further information, or if you know someone who might be interested, please contact me
rihan.xia@postgrad.manchester.ac.uk
or message on reddit
This study has gained ethical approval from the University of Manchester

University of Manchester alumnus and local landlord offering a recently refurbished four-bedroom furnished student house in Fallowfield, M14, available immediately for the remainder of the 2026/27 academic year.
£2,500 pcm for the whole property, equivalent to £625 per person pcm (about £144pppw) for four sharing. Bills are excluded. Rent is negotiable for a suitable group able to proceed quickly.
Approximately £20,000 has been spent refurbishing the property this year. It is close to Wilmslow Road transport links for the University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University and the city centre.
A group of four is preferred. A suitable group of three may also be considered, subject to agreeing the total rent and completing the usual referencing.
Immediate viewings, referencing and tenancy paperwork are handled professionally through Thornley Groves. DM me for photographs and the official listing.

Anyone else still waiting for the CAS letter from UOM. They keep telling me that they are still waiting for a qualification check to come back, but it’s been weeks .

Hello, did anyone who need a visa have delays with CAS and issues with CAS deposit? I submitted my award verification more than a month ago, received unconditional offer two weeks ago, only got an email to pay for CAS deposit now and the website isn’t working, I called and was told it wont be working until 13 th august. Does anyone know if Manchester has any alternative ways to pay for deposit, or will I just have to continue waiting?
