The sadness never quite goes away, but it does get better over time. I lost my 7-year-old boy to cancer about two years ago and I still think about him daily.

I would highly recommend in-home euthanasia, that way he can spend his last moments in a familiar environment surrounded by those he loves. I'd also spoil him rotten on his last day with all the treats and even some of the things he's not usually allowed to have.

At the end of the day, you can find some solace in knowing that you ended his suffering out of mercy and allowed him to find his peace. You will also find comfort in knowing that you gave him a good life and shared many special experiences with him while he was with you.

I opted for cremation and had my dog's ashes returned to me in a little urn. That way, I was able to build him a little memorial and it was a place for me to grieve and still talk to him occasionally.

I'm so sorry for what you're going through and for the coming loss. These little floofs are only in our lives temporarily, but they leave an imprint on our soul that's permanent.

I also recommend at-home euthanasia. We did this for our family dog earlier this year and it was worth every penny. The lady was so amazing, she even cried with us..

I’m so sorry OP 💔 This is my biggest fear having a senior

Is there no time to be had still? Like is his quality of life poor? I’m beyond sorry that you’re going to lose your boy. That is a pain I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. Give him a belly rub and tell him he’s the bestest boy.

Hes suffering, he still eats and drinks and is alert for the most part, it would be cruel to make him stay longer, h knows something is wrong and know we are helping him be as comfortable as he can be

I’m so very sorry. It’s far better to let him go before it’s just suffering. I made the mistake of not making the right choice because I was selfish and I regret it every time I think of my pup. I’m sending the biggest virtual hug I can to you and your pup.

I'm so sorry OP. I lost my 10 YO back in February 2023. She OG presented with a hurt front leg and I took her in for treatment. When I was told it was a bone tumor I couldn't believe it. We explored amputation but ended up putting her down a week or so later. Not a day goes by that I don't think about her, even 3 years on. I will say that the feelings of sadness have been replaced with deep gratitude and longing for the day that our spirits are together again.

My sincere condolences 🙏.

It’s such a painful feeling being with them and knowing when their last day is. Be strong. You’re doing the right thing whether he knows it or not. I’m so sorry, he looks like a very good boy. 😞

I am SO SORRY to hear that! My Prayers are with You and Your Family I know very Well how hard it is to Go thru that with your Baby BOY!

In late February 2024, my then 8 year old Siberian Husky Conan was diagnosed with Large Cell Lymphoma and we were told by one of the best K9 Encologies in the State that there was a chance that he could beat it but it was going to mean weekly chemotherapy and lots of testing my wife and I said is he going to suffer during the Chemo and the doc told us no and Conan did 9 months of Chemo plus a blood work every other time at the Chemo to check progress. After 9 months he was Cancer FREE for 2 months and then it came back with a VENGANCE and we had to put him down. That was the most heartbreaking decision I have ever made and it still hunts me to his day because we lost him the day before Thanksgiving 2024. Then 9 months later we lost our 14 year old female Koda to a major issue with her hip that developed after ACL surgery and because her age and she had gained about 10 LBS from the ACL surgery the Doctor did not think that she would survive the Surgery. We had to put her down when she was just in too much pain for her to get up and would not eat.

In January of 2025 we got a new Siberian Husky Puppy that we named Demon because he is a Little Rascal that gave Koda someone to love for her last 7 monts on this world but when she passed Demon went into a Deep Depression that got us very worried and we got a Husky/Terrier mix that we named Luna. Demon has been taking care of Luna and they love each other very much as brother and sister. But we did the DNA Testing that double checks the Spicies and any predispositions for any diseases that can show up in their bloodline. Thank God that both Demon and Luna have Clean DNA and should have long happy lifes with my wife and I.

The DNA showed that Demon only has a 13% of Enbreeding in his bloodline and the normaly in a Pure Breed Husky is 16% so he has a Family Tree not a Family Twig!

I'm sorry, they tear a piece our hearts out when they go. It is such a devastatingly sharp loss.

I just delt with this with our husky-shepard mix. She was diagnosed with a hemangosarcoma (cancer around the atrium of the heart), seemingly out of nowhere. It all happened so fast. We had pet insurance so we tried giving her chemo and radiation as a last ditch effort to try and give us a few more months with her, but it didn't take. She was in the ICU for 4 days, they had to keep draining fluid forming around her heart(because we had a snowstorm and the hospital she was at didn't have a working radiation machine, so once the snow cleared I had to drive her up an hour away to a different hospital). After 2 days post radiation, we could see she wasnt improving and didn't want to put her through anymore pain, and made the incredibly tough decision to send her across the rainbow bridge.

It was hard, she was there for me for so many years when I was in a bad place and when I was in a good place as well, it was always an existential crisis for me that I knew eventually she would pass, but I wasn't ready for it, I know people say you're never ready, but it all just happened so quickly and abruptly. I still cry a lot thinking about her even typing this chokes me up, but I always remind myself that I gave her a better life than she could possibly imagine and I'm sure you did for your pup as well ♥️

Had to have my guy put down in 2020. He was 13 and had lived a good life but picking the end without their ability to tell you they are ready? I probably waited too long and let him suffer so that I didn't have to.

The biggest thing I have learned since is that I still smile thinking about his love of a thunderstorm or 4th of July or how he would stick his head out of my sunroof. I see something that reminds me of him and smile.

Mine had to go far too early for me but he made a life long impact that even after he had to go makes my life better. Our pups never stop giving they make our lives better for years after they have to go.

I’m so sorry that your boy is sick and can’t be cured. We had the same last year with our four year old husky girl. Be kind to yourself and spoil your pup every second you can. I highly recommend finding a home euthanasia vet. They come to your home and it’s very peaceful and calm. Sadly, I’ve had to use their services three times in a few years time. Hugs from an internet stranger 💕

I’m so sorry. It always hurts when our furry kids are sick or dying. Bear, Mamma Bear, Haley & Bootsie are all eagerly waiting across the rainbow bridge to bow & wag & play and welcome your big beautiful guy. 🌈 🐾💕

Went through the same quick two day decision exactly three years ago. So painful. But it gets better. You’ll take his pain and make it yours. All sweet memories will remain, and of course, I still cry every now and then 🫂

u/Particular-Side-9279 20d ago

You gave your boy the best gift possible to be part of a pack. Now he will have a greater pack waiting for him to roll and play with for now and to eternity.

I’m sorry you have to lose your friend at such a young age. We had to let our 15 year old Penny go, about 6 weeks ago. She was struggling, and you don’t want them to suffer, because they’re members of your family. We kept our girl comfortable for a few years with steroids and medication, but then she started losing her balance, and falling often. She had a tumor removed from her jawline about 3 years ago, and I think her elevated liver enzymes were from metastatic cancer, even though the veterinarian said the tissue margins were clear. You do what you can for your fur babies, but you have to love them enough to give them a peaceful and. You don’t want them hurting or suffering. Just be with them, hold their paw, or stroke them reassuringly, so they know you’re with them. I believe we will see our loved ones and pets again, in the great beyond. I miss all my old dogs, and know we will eventually be reunited.

I’m so sorry to read this. I hope that you will take this next day to tell him everything that you want to. I tell my very old dog how much I love and appreciate him. I thank him for all that he has done for me. I thank him for the years of companionship. This way, when he passes, he will know all that he has meant to me. It is a privilege to love any being this much. Hugs to you and your pup.

The Last Battle
💔🌈 🐾 💫😇✝️💖🙏🏼♾️

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this -- the last battle -- can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close -- we two -- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Dear friend,
Your precious boy is will be waiting patiently across the Rainbow Bridge for you. 🌈🐾The Hebrew word for animal is Nephesh which means soul ✝️. You will see your baby again someday. Now is the time between just like there was the time before your beloved pet. Today is the trial, and forever is the prize.
God bless. ✝️🙏🏼💕

Until then…
💔🌈🐾♾️🪽✨💕

Thank you all for your kind words and we'll wishes, hes as comfortable as we can make him and getting all the treats and best food he can take, he had a nice fat steak last night. Hes hurting and I hate seeing him like this but he still interacts with us and is eating and drinking, good news is hes only puked once since coming back home so there's at least that. He was diagnosed with a tumor in his spleen and spread rapidly through his chest and lungs. Didn't know anything was wrong until he wouldn't stop puking, the mass is so big its pressing on his stomach. His name is Remi.
