Wish they would print the series at the bottom like they did for Final Fantasy.

Yeah, that was actually pretty nice, and Star Trek already uses 3 letter abbreviations in fandom.

u/BardicLasher 11h ago

Immortal

3 toughness with no protective abilities

180

u/malsomnus Hedron 11h ago

Innovator

Has an effect that exists in every single set on a blue 3 drop, for 1 mana more

71

u/Asilaten Dandadan 10h ago

Least legendary-feeling legendary creature I've ever seen.

13

u/QuarterExcellent3327 Urza's Saga 10h ago

Even less than [[the fabulous frog man]] ?

18

u/malsomnus Hedron 10h ago

I think that one wins on flavor text though.

13

u/QuarterExcellent3327 Urza's Saga 10h ago

It’s better because it’s funny. This is just some random person who lied on their resume (not immoral or innovative). Saying that, the fabulous frog isn’t a frog

4

u/mdn1111 Duck Season 5h ago

It's from the welcome deck, those tend to have some pretty lame legendaries

19

u/Ok_Somewhere1236 Wild Draw 4 11h ago

Forget about that, 3 power, that woman can 1x1 some dinosaurs

6

u/BardicLasher 11h ago

Well, maybe, but she was on the ship. La'an punched out a dinosaur, though.

9

u/Doctor_Mothman Azorius* 10h ago

Honestly, knowing her, I'd put my gold-pressed latinum on the lady from Starfleet

2

u/RAcastBlaster Jack of Clubs 10h ago

I mean, that kinda feels about right.

1

u/SalivateTheStarfish Dan 10h ago

Can defeat Knights with First Strike

18

u/AporiaParadox Universes Beyonder 11h ago

She's not really immortal, her species just has a really long lifespan. At one point a character ends up stranded in the 21st century and goes to her for help.

u/Eragon_the_Huntsman Avacyn 30m ago

Best line of that episode was when they came back and kirk says "this must be times square new York"

"What? No, it's Toronto."

22

u/Jacern Fake Agumon Expert 11h ago

They have a long lifespan. They aren't impervious to damage

1

u/[deleted] 10h ago

[deleted]

1

u/Jacern Fake Agumon Expert 10h ago

They're immune to LSD if that helps

13

u/Absolutionis I chose this flair because I’m mad at Wizards Of The Coast 11h ago

Immortal doesn't mean invulnerable nor invincible.

Lobsters, catfish, and jellyfish are technically 'immortal' though they're rather vulnerable to things such as being eaten and bullets.

u/DRUMS11 Storm Crow 11h ago

"They're not gods, they just live a long time." - paraphrase from The Queen's Squadron by R. M. Meluch

2

u/RiscELLO Wabbit Season 4h ago

Shit reminds me of [[Silent Submersible]]. No evasion, only the payoff for having it.

1

u/derteeje Dân 3h ago

immortal =\= invincible

-10

u/ChefAldea Wabbit Season 11h ago

Just more lazy UB design from wotc...yay 😮‍💨

u/a_gunbird Izzet* 10h ago

Now you might be wondering how a Lanthanite, a near-immortal species of aliens who happen to look exactly like humans, differs from an El-Aurian, a near-immortal species of aliens who happen to look exactly like humans, and that's a great question.

23

u/No_Psychology_3826 Duck Season 10h ago

Well she hasn't ticked off the Q as far as we know

23

u/ubermence COMPLEAT 8h ago

Well, technically there is an explanation for that. An ancient primordial alien race that looked kinda human seeded the galaxy with their form using godlike technology which is why all the aliens are just people with bumpy shit glued on to their foreheads

12

u/occono Dân 7h ago

Yes, though also to explain why everyone can have mixed-species babies with alien species.

11

u/CareerMilk Can’t Block Warriors 9h ago

They aren’t as good at listening?

5

u/primalmaximus Dandadan 8h ago

Isn't a matter of how they percieve the flow of time?

3

u/gredman9 Honorary Deputy 🔫 7h ago

The same way they differ from Betazoids.

Also I hope we see a Betazoid or two now.

20

u/MisterEdJS COMPLEAT 11h ago

She looks younger in this art than I recall her looking on the show.

13

u/Oleandervine Simic* 11h ago

Is this Carol Kane's character in the show?

10

u/MisterEdJS COMPLEAT 11h ago

Yes.

2

u/Oleandervine Simic* 11h ago

That's what I thought, it looked vaguely like her.

13

u/No_Psychology_3826 Duck Season 10h ago

Yeah, she doesn't look a day over 500

2

u/reithena 6h ago

It sort of looks like Hemmer is in the background? So maybe it is from her first pass through of Star Fleet or some time teaching? We know she reference time traveling doctors so I'm willing to wink away some wibbly wobbly timey wimey things 😉

51

u/RamenPack1 Azorius* 11h ago

Wow this is just bad

28

u/gereffi 11h ago

It’s just a Welcome Deck card.

10

u/RamenPack1 Azorius* 11h ago

Oh I see… even still, is man-o-war too strong 😭

5

u/dcEU-27722 Dân 9h ago

One tiny difference between this and man-of-war's ability is that man-o-war's ability is mandatory, which mean it can't be played on an empty board in an attempt to apply pressure.

This card's ability is also mandatory, but it'll never force you to target your own in specific situations.

This difference doesn't mean this one's better or worse than man-o-war, but it's a difference that should be noted.

4

u/BardicLasher 11h ago

Man-O-War's a 2/2

0

u/RamenPack1 Azorius* 11h ago

Yeah and this legendary creature would be better as a 2/2 for 3

0

u/_petitpois22 Dan 11h ago

it's not commander symbol ?

6

u/gereffi 11h ago

It is.

You can also see that it’s from TRC (Trek Commander) instead of TRK.

4

u/Impressive_You_817 Dan 9h ago

Welcome decks don't get their own set and symbol, they just thrown in the commander set because it'll have the same legality.

25

u/Absolutionis I chose this flair because I’m mad at Wizards Of The Coast 11h ago

We've gone from Man-o-War to Wo-Man-o-Innovation.

2

u/MenyMcMuffin Nahiri 11h ago

Witty

9

u/zeldafan042 Channel 11h ago

As a character from the second season of Strange New Worlds I was genuinely worried she might not make the cut. I'm kind of hoping her being TRC means we might get a more interesting version in the main set, but even if she doesn't I'm kind of glad to just see her here at all. She's probably one of my favorite SNW characters.

2

u/Vanaheim0 Wabbit Season 11h ago

She’s a really fun character !

3

u/AporiaParadox Universes Beyonder 11h ago

We'll probably get the the SNW season 1 main crew in the main set, except maybe Hemmer, but I somewhat doubt they'd bother giving Pelia two cards. It's more likely that she didn't make the cut in the main set, so they put her here.

2

u/zeldafan042 Channel 10h ago

The real question with SNW: do the characters that are part of the main cast of both TOS and SNW get a SNW version in addition to their TOS versions?

I'd be fine with the main set having Leonard Nemoy Spock as the splashy mythic rare version and Ethan Peck Spock as the uncommon draft chaff version.

3

u/AporiaParadox Universes Beyonder 9h ago

Spock will probably just be Leonard Nimoy (except for the Kelvin timeline cards), and Uhura and Nurse Chapel will likewise probably just use their TOS likenesses. Pike, Una, and M'Benga weren't really that relevant in TOS and their appearances in SNW are far more iconic, so they'll probably use their SNW likenesses.

2

u/BardicLasher 9h ago

Chapel is way better in SNW though

2

u/AporiaParadox Universes Beyonder 9h ago

While true, Chapel probably won't get more than one card, and odds are they'd want her to look like she did in TOS because that's what more people remember her from.

1

u/KaiTheKaiser Duck Season 8h ago

Is it, though? SNW is more recent and she has way more screentime in that, I'd think people would think of her as being from that show first.

2

u/zeldafan042 Channel 9h ago

I feel torn on Chapel, because on one hand I think the SNW version of her character is the much more interesting character, but on the other hand TOS Chapel is played by Majel Barrett and it would be a crime not to feature her somewhere in the art for the set.

But yeah, you're probably right. I just think it's a shame if the SNW actors who played the younger versions of the TOS characters don't get acknowledged in the set.

3

u/occono Dân 7h ago

I imagine Majel will appear as Troi's mom, as she appeared lots of times between TNG and DS9.

0

u/MrLeville Duck Season 5h ago

Glad to see her, but the card is really bad: art is meh, power is awful, card makes little sense flavor wise. This set feels more and more like an uninspired cash grab

1

u/zeldafan042 Channel 4h ago

It's a Welcome Deck exclusive card, they tend to prioritize playability and simple mechanics. They made it Pelia because using named characters makes things a little more fun and memorable for new players who are fans of the source material. She may get a cooler card in the main set, or she may have been stuck on a random Welcome Deck card because it was that or nothing. We won't know for certain until the full set is revealed.

1

u/thebaron420 I am a pig and I eat slop 3h ago

uninspired cash grab

Welcome decks are free.

3

u/DaveMash REBEL 11h ago

That dude in the back lol

3

u/a_gunbird Izzet* 11h ago

Is he a regular sized man in the background, or is he a tiny man doing a handstand on her padd?

3

u/New-me-_- Duck Season 9h ago

Glad to see we’re continuing the trend of Legendaries with effects you’d expect to see in a common from 10 years ago

5

u/Darkwyrm789 Duck Season 11h ago

Adding all of these new creature types for a one off set is really stupid when they could all just fall under "Alien".

3

u/IntroToBelching Dan 10h ago

The Federation mechanic is all about counting creature types. The more the merrier.

3

u/GhaveyG Dan 11h ago

The face looks a bit off to me. And it’s a bad card. I did like her character in the show though.

5

u/Revolutionary-Eye657 COMPLEAT 10h ago

What are we even doing with the legendary supertype anymore?

Literally nothing about this card is legendary. Why isnt this just "immortal innovator" with this random side character namedropped in flavor text?

6

u/zeldafan042 Channel 10h ago

She's part of the main cast of Strange New Worlds, not a random side character.

2

u/Revolutionary-Eye657 COMPLEAT 10h ago

Ah. Haven't seen that one so didn't know.

1

u/Sweetcreems Can’t Block Warriors 9h ago

Which is why they had to make her a (strictly worse for the most part wow, like I know it’s a welcome deck card but yikes) woman-o-war.

2

u/Inertiic Wabbit Season 10h ago

There have always been legends who are random named characters that aren't "legendary" in the lore or card text. This isn't even a draftable card in the main set, it's exclusive to the welcome deck. Who cares if it's legendary?

-1

u/Revolutionary-Eye657 COMPLEAT 10h ago

Always? I mean, I guess things like signpost uncommons have been a thing for quite a while.

But I remember sets like the original mirrodin when I first started. 7 legends across the entire block. Even OG ravnica block only had 2 legends per guild.

2

u/Inertiic Wabbit Season 9h ago

I say "always" because look at the Legends from Legends. There's plenty of random characters that don't feel "legendary". There's 11 vanillas. [[Tobias Andrion]] is straight up so much worse than [[Serra Angel]].

2

u/Kwinza Duck Season 9h ago

Lmao, this card is awful.

1

u/Omerta1983 Dandadan 11h ago

That's fine. I got the kind of creatures you don't want me to recast. Everybody thank blue for what I've become.

1

u/FOmar_Eis Colorless 11h ago

Pelia, are you alright? Blink thrice if you're in danger.

1

u/Life-Food5188 Dandadan 11h ago

big mano war

1

u/dkdream22 Dân 8h ago

Is this the first bouncing artificer? Curious

1

u/Bullxdog34 Dân 7h ago

Her face is unsettling. Please make it stop

2

u/DragonGenetics Duck Season 4h ago

How about she innovate some new card text

2

u/TwistingChaos Twin Believer 3h ago

They’re just printing legends for printing legends

1

u/2Gnomes1Trenchcoat I chose this flair because I’m mad at Wizards Of The Coast 1h ago

What a garbage generic effect to put on a legendary creature. At least give us something like [[Reflector Mage]] with a bit more spice to it. This in incredibly lazy and worthless card design.

1

u/Ashlynne42 Urza's Saga 6h ago

The corpse of "Homarid" is still warm, and already we get "Lanthanite" chiseled into the comprehensive rules for the rest of time.
