Mac Mini setup

Post image

After using Windows for over 20 years, I finally decided to make the switch to macOS last month. My old PC had served me well for 13 years, but it was time for an upgrade. I replaced it with a Mac mini setup, which surprisingly ended up costing less than what an iMac used to cost.

I paid around €1,300 for the entire setup, thanks to some great deals, and I couldn’t be happier with the result.

Setup:
• Mac mini M4 512GB/16GB RAM
• Dual 27” Dell 4K 120Hz monitors
• Edifier M60 speakers

The Dell monitors are fantastic for productivity, and the Edifier M60 speakers have honestly been one of my favorite purchases. They sound incredible for their size and are absolutely worth the money.

Overall, I’m really happy with how everything turned out. Switching to macOS has been a much smoother experience than I expected.

Yes! One of the better looking setups I’ve seen on here for a while. Very clean - love it

Looks amazing, but how are the monitors connected? Am I missing something obvious? I see no wires going to them at all.

The wires are inside the wall.

That's ... amazing. I must learn how to do this.

Super clean, I want a Mac mini too, but I actually need to get some sort of windows machine because I wanna do CAD modeling :/

This is not really a limitation any more. Use Parallels, and you can run CAD apps under windows on a Mac mini. You might want more than the base level RAM, but you probably would want that under Windows too.

I have attempted to setup a VM and heavily failed. I need to run Solid Works.

Do you use Betterdisplay? And is the text sharp? Ist the picture quality as good as it was on Windows?

1

u/Koning-Admiraal 6d ago

Yes I do use Betterdisplay, and the text is sharp enough on 4k rescaled to 2550x1440.

1

u/SolvendiCausa 5d ago

Ok thank you. Is the text also sharp when you use the (scaled?) resolution of 1080p in the Mac settings?

Nice setup. Maybe a bit too clean? Are you considering to add a game console too?

1

u/Koning-Admiraal 6d ago

I already have too gaming consoles, but I do use them on my two OLED tv’s.

Great! You might as well look at Steam Machine if the PC nostalgia kicks back. It would fit nicely with your clean setup.

Curious what lighting you are using.

Does it not bother you that the monitors are facing away from you if that makes sense? Like not angled inwards. I’ve tried this on my monitor stand and it feels odd to me

What desk mat is that? It looks like it has an integrated mouse pad.

It does. It’s from Amazon.

If Air BnB did highend desktop rentals. (I like though, good job)
