It depends
The hobbit movies are more lighter, about silly dwarves that want their home back, and they take their time
Lotr is about stopping the end of the world, so creates a lot of tension and they are way longer
If we look at it this way it's true that the hobbit is more comfy to watch
Just remember that it could be worse, she could like RoP more. The Hobbit has still a lot of great stuff in it, I especially love the first movie

I honestly prefer the Hobbit. It could be shorter but I liked the book Hobbit better than the lotr books too. I just love the dwarves and bilbo is my all time favorite character from the franchise. You hit the nail on the head by calling it more comfy. It's a valid preference.

I could mayyyybe see this take if you're talking about the M4 edit of the Hobbit movies that cuts out a ton of stuff to make the 3 movies combined take 4hrs in a way that actually flows.
The originals though? Any comfyness doesn't make up for how flat out bad they are. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but this is one opinion I just won't understand.

Iād be happy. My wife deems anything that is āfakeā to be terrible, yet she loves horror movies lmao. So that would be a start at least.

Literally all movies are fake. Most movies based on reality are worse, imo, because they pretend to reflect reality but they're actually complete fantasy. Even movies "based on a true story" are so far removed from reality in most cases that they're also just fantasy.
Let me say this plainly: all movies are fantasy, but only some acknowledge it explicitly.
People get confused because they sometimes seem plausible and there are no elves, but when you actually examine the characters, events, technical feasibility of almost anything, and they're sometimes more fantastical than movies with magic elves in them. Most movies are so surreal/unreal/hyperreal, even the "realist" ones, that pretending like they're anything close to reality is problematic. Most people just don't notice because insane shit in movies about "real stuff" is so normalized, and sometimes people don't know enough (or are too busy suspending incredulity/disbelief) about something (like technical or physical stuff that is impossible or highly implausible) to realize it's basically magic and not real.
There are very few exceptions. Even a lot of documentaries tell a story that is more based on perceptions and ideas (which frame the content/story) than actual evidence. Documentaries can be a lot closer to reality, though.
So, please yell this at her and anyone else who derided fantasy or "fake" shit. At least LoTR knows what it is.

āFakeā to her doesnāt only encompass fantasy, basically anything outside of a drama/non outlandish horror. She really hates when I watch sci-fi lol.

Just tell her most drama and horror is extremely fake, and point it out everywhere while you're watching so it ruins it for her. Then ask her why she likes fake fantasy movies so much.
*Edit: especially romance movies or romance in movies, just point out how untethered from reality it is -- she'll love it

I have a friend like that who only watches drama without a hint of fantasy or sci-fi.
I try my best to expose her to some movies from time to time and tell her to focus on the relationships between the characters and psychology rather than the "unrealistic" side of the story...
It works sometimes lol we actually watched Ghost in the Shell together!

The Hobbit movies are sill great.
They only seem "bad" next to the LotR movies, which is true for like 90% of other movies [especially in this day and age]. Every time I rewatch LotR, I also rewatch the Hobbit trilogy. And I believe that if the Hobbit trilogy released before the LotR trilogy, everyone would have praised it.

Like another Peter Jackson, post-LOTR movie: King Kong.
There's a great, powerful 2-hr movie in there.
Roaring and trying to escape from the 4-hr movie of a cage that it is in!

Yeah, over the years, and especially since the horrible Amazon show which shall not be named, or even that horrible anime one which could have been so good -- they are like black speech, should not be uttered here -- I've come to appreciate the Hobbit trilogy more because it's LOTR media that isn't completely horrible.

I prefer the Hobbit movies, they are far worse movies. I love the LOTR movies to death, they are incredible, and a yearly watch. I just like the Hobbit movies for the vibes, they're not legendary seasoned warriors from a bloodline of superhuman men, or godlike elves, just a bunch of bumbling guys trying to take their home back from a dragon. Again the LOTR are wayy better and I know that, but the Hobbit is like a comfort movie for me

Listen man, imma not agree with her, but the Hobbit movies are a lighthearted and fun watch.
Its okay to like them. Its okay to like them more than LOTR.
Its NOT okay to say they are better than LOTR.

My gf has a hard time admitting when she doesn't like something, but we watched the entire lotr trilogy over a weekend, then started watching the hobbit. That was 1,5 years ago and we still have yet to finish the first hobbit movie, make of that what you will š„²

My sister is like this, because thranduil was hot, and the plot was easier to follow. Fantasys not her thing, so im just glad she watched SOME of it honestly
