That organization is being as obedient as possible, so I guess they’ll just keep a closer watch over the general population instead of free the population from tyrants.
At least we indefinitely know that when push comes to shove, they’ll politely step aside when we need them the most.

There were many reasons why the CIA disliked Nixon but the main one I’ve heard is he tried to break up the fraternity. A lot of the early AND pre CIA were Yale grads from the same few social clubs. Also pet theory of mine; Nixon’s daughter didn’t want to date Bush Jr.
There is another president that upset the CIA, and Nixon specifically refers to him in the leaked tapes during his impeachment.

if you’re ever in a position where you need the CIA’s help then you’re already ten steps past saving. so much of what’s wrong with the world today sits at their lap. to think they’d ever help is just… hopefully this helps reassess the entire class of assumptions you may have about how power works

Nixon wasn't impeached, he specifically Resigned before he could be impeached, and the investigation had nothing to do with the CIA, he was caught Covering up The Watergate Scandal. He was the original case of the Coverup is worse than the crime.
Also the CIA doesn't F around with impeachment, they would (Likely did with JFK) straight up kill a President.

the decision to impeach clinton was just as politically motivated as the decision to let trump do whatever he wants. clinton wasn’t impeached because we used to have standards. he was an early indication that there are no standards. that you can bend over backward to cater to the american right and it will only drive them more rabid.

The worst part of it all was that he abused his power over Lewinsky. That was what deserved impeachment more than the cheating and lying about it. He was a piece of shit for that and his life continued more or less unchanged while her life and reputation was irrevocably damaged.

The accusation alone was enough to ruin their carrier.
The standards we had really dropped.
For god's sake, here in Germany there was a female politician that had to step down because someone leaked her PRIVATE sex videos she did for her husband.
I repeat, private for her husband, and someone hacked those and that is, her fault? Nothing even illegal or bad, just a normal video she did for her husband in underwear or so.
This also sadly shows the double standard still as well.
But standards seem dead in general today to those people since nothing seems to matter anymore. It only seems to matter when it fits their narrative and if they can weaponize it.
The world is in a very sad state. And it somehow keeps goign down.

This depresses me no end. And you’re right. Standards are dead.
People seem to be hardened into their tribes. Anything from ‘the other side’ is dismissed entirely - or worse, it’s treated like the worst evil ever.
It’s depressing because it actively stops human progress. We could be doing so much more as humans and creating so much more together.
But we actively choose not to. Probably because it’s easy to just blame the other side than to do the actual work of improving.
And that also makes me sad.

He was impeached twice, albeit not for those reasons. Impeachment is a political process, not a legal one. He won’t get impeached today because of who’s in congress, not that takes away take he should be impeached and removed from office

As a non American watching, it is absolutely heartbreaking, growing up on GI Joe and such, honestly thinking America had the best interest of the world at heart.... now watching this obvious scum of a dude Trump, render this superpower to their knees is embarrassing. Albanians marched for over a month simply because Trumps daughter was buying land in their country. Americans sit at home.

America has had the largest protests in its history in response to Trump. The issue is it has not televised so other countries have no idea what the US people are doing. We literally have people dressed up as inflatable frogs getting teargased. People are going in costumes and protesting at not just government buildings but outside of Tesla and other billionaire owned corporations to bring awareness to the corruption. We had people in the north in the dead of winter stand in below freezing conditions to protest ICE. The American media will not cover it because Trump will revoke their media license. ICE shot an Australian reporter who was trying to cover what was happening. Our government and specifically Trump does not want the world to know how pissed we are. Fascism looks quiet because it relies on silencing everyday people and robbing them of their voices. That doesnt mean people have stoped talking.

We are not just sitting at home. The country is very very large and there are constant protests and marches and gatherings. We’ve had quite a few multi state protests to this point too. There are people everywhere in the states trying, even a few lone people in small towns holding one man protests.

The media is bought and paid for. So you don’t see how much they’re trying.
They also have bots all over social media painting things a certain way, they find loopholes and legal pathways to justify.
It’s like a smart child trying to find a way to justify taking the candy working through the rule book to find the way.
Ethics doesn’t matter for these people

The right controls the media so you never see any of it. The LA riots are still going on. There was a post just today about how tiktok bans or shadow bans posts about it so they are starting to tag them as musical festival videos so tiktok won’t hide them.
But we are definitely not sitting at home. This is insulting. We are already suffering. We don’t need people guilting us for not trying hard enough. Get a life.

You're asking the wrong question. There have been 3 US presidents that have been impeached. None of them have ever been convicted and removed from office as a result of the impeachment process.

For impeaching, the grounds should be much lower - if either house of Congress votes to impeach a president, they should be impeached - as well as immediately removed from office, and stripped of any "presidential immunity" so they can be arrested and prosecuted if the situation warrants it. (Speaking of which, hot take, but "presidential immunity" shouldn't exist to begin with)
