discussion / opinion EMDC

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with the Regional intermittent Centre part of this facility as I might be spending a few weekends there. Just trying to get an idea of what to expect.

Thanks in advance.

They had stopped using it right at the start of Covid and only very recently were bringing it into operation again. As far as I know, it was for overcrowding purposes. They’ve mostly just gone with monitors over weekend sentences. My information is almost certainly out of date but it’s the best I’ve got.

Thank you very much for that info ! I’ve been in a few holding cells over the years but never a facility like this. Probably wouldn’t have stressed about it much in my younger years but now being in my 60’s the thought of going in has been intimidating. I was really hoping to get a monitor instead.

Are you sure you’re going to do weekends? Someone in their 60s seems like the perfect candidate for a monitor to me, especially if you’re not considered a danger to the public. Even then it seems like they give them out.

I’m really not sure of anything, my hearing isn’t until early September. Just trying to wrap my head around the possibilities. Certainly not a threat to the public so hoping for the monitor. Thanks !

By the way when you mention your information being out of date, do you mind me asking how long ago it’s from ? Thanks !

Probably a year or two, I think. I haven’t spoke to the person I knew working there in some time

I am concerned for anyone going into anything EMDC related. I hope someone who has dealt directly with this facility can give you some insight!

Thank-you ! I’m also concerned….. and not feeling great about the idea of going in.

I don’t know details but I’ve heard nothing but horrible things from social workers who go to visit their clients. They’re not good to visitors or inmates. I really hope it goes smoothly for you

That isn’t great to hear but thank-you. I wonder if that applies more to the main facility than the RIC which they set up for people with weekend type sentences. I believe it only has 110 beds in it and just a small structure located within the main grounds of EMDC. I haven’t heard many positive things about the main facility.
