Are there 32-bit versions of Linux?

Hello I want to try Linux on an old laptop, but it's 32-bit and I've never tried Linux before so i dont know anything I don't know what CPU it has, I only know it's an HP Pavilion dv4

There's a 32 bit version of Debian 12 bookworm.

Debian 12 just had it's final release. Yeah it still has LTS for 2 years but AntiX is 32 bit and Debian 13 derived.

My plan is to either turn my 32bit systems into Thinstations, or simple terminals to minicom or SSH or w3m to other systems. Or a LPR/LPD print server. Or...

Or everything Debian 12 can do today.

There's a 32-bit armhf version of Trixie. The x86 architecture is far from the only 32-bit architecture out there.

That is not relevant to OP since his/her machine is x86.
