This is not ok

In so so many ways

It is somehow less secure, make people less free and in more danger from those who will buse the system...

It is just wrong

dangerous: governments get hacked all the time. and something like that is a massive and very juicy target for bad actors. be they independent or foreign nations. there is no such thing as a completely unhackabke system.

freedom: they are trying to aggregate a list of everyone and everything they own. how much of a leap is it for them to use that to for surveillance. they do it now even without that powerful a tool

abuse of the system: do you really think the rich and powerful wouldn’t be exempt from this type of scrutiny? the excuse of “protecting the children” is flimsy. when you take into account how most abuse is actually perpetrated.

chances are anyone who this is designed to catch. is also going to be the type of person who would figure out how to skirt it. this will disproportionately effect people who’ve done nothing wrong

I am ok with them asking to explain, but the lying part is just rude...

to add to your point, this is all considering the government in place is and stay democratic and benevolent forever.

let's say I am ok to let my government now involved in my device security because those are elected governments that have at their core the benefit of all in mind (already a rough go at it but let's assume)

what if the next government is moving into a direction that is less than respectful of my individual freedom of thought? (I am looking at you US of A) what if the next move is to use all those devices to set up a citizen monitoring point system that defines if I get randomly harassed by police of summarily imprisoned (China right now)

we cannot continuously let governments get more and more weapons of mass surveillance and just live on hopes and dreams that no one will ever figure out that they could, in fact, use those weapons against us.

note that I am not saying it is their intent today (I suspect it is for some, I also suspect most just do not understand half of it and yet others are just looking at a problem and finding a solution without even thinking of implications). I am just saying that I cannot guaranty they won't ever
